Secrets
We sat there all night by the bonfire. The colors of the fire licked at the logs and the air. We all sat on our individual logs, well some of us did. Jess was to my right and Mike was to her right and all of her attention was on him. Angela was to my left and she was quiet and still the entire time. She left me to think to myself and have some alone time. Angela and I got along in our own little way.
Some of the boys decided to go for a hike in the woods. I counted who left and who stayed. Mike, Jess, Angela, Leah, Sam, Jake And a few others stayed. Seth, Ben, Quil, and the some others left. I stayed. Hiking and roots are not my strong suit. I'd rather keep a low profile.
Jake stood up from his log and motioned to me from across the fire. When he met my gaze, he pointed to the beach. I stood up and followed him.
"Hey."
"Hey. You didn't seem really happy back there." Jake studied me.
"You know I didn't really want to come here. I only did because of Jess and Mike." I looked ahead as I spoke.
"Bella, what's wrong?" Jake's voice dropped.
"Nothing wrong...I'm fine..." I still didn't face him.
"Then why can't you look at me?" He frowned.
"Because I like to look at the beach." I lied. I hated the beach.
"Bella." Jacob put his hands on both of my shoulders, forcing me to stop walking and face him.
"What, Jacob?" I glared at him.
"What. Is. Wrong. With. You?" He spaced out the words.
"Jake. Let go of me." I tried to pull him off with little effort.
"Not until you confess!" It was like, wrestling with a brick wall!
I gave up, "Fine...you win..."
"Yay!" Jake slowly let go.
I'm free! I ran back to the bonfire, where everyone else was. Jake ran after me. Everyone looked up as we ran past them like we were being chased by hyenas. It was so much fun!
I ran into Jess, who fell on top of Mike, and we all fell to the ground and laid there laughing. Everyone else stared at us and then joined in. Soon the air was filled with laughter.
Jacob came up to me with a sheepish look and tried to help me stand. I brushed off the grass and weeds from my shirt and pants and blushed.
"Bella? What the hell was that all about?" Jess glared at me and crossed her arms.
"Nothing...I was trying to escape being a prisoner." I glanced at jake who innocently started to whistle and look around the area. I chuckled.
Jessica looked at me and then Jake and back to me.
"Bella, can I talk to you about something alone?" Jess suddenly couldn't stand still which made me nervous about what she has to say.
"Sure." I looked at Jake and he got the message. He walked over to Seth and they started talking.
"Jess, what's this about?"
"You like him!" She whispered excitedly.
"What?" I froze.
"You heard me! You like him!" She repeated.
"I do not...what makes you think that?" I was right to be nervous..
"Don't deny it! I see it in your eyes and I see the way he looks at you. He likes you." She explained.
"He looks at me funny?" I didn't notice.
"Not in a bad way. A good way. You don't see it?" She pouted.
I shook my head and Jess groaned.
"Bella, you have to open your eyes. Look around. Know what's going on around you. He likes you. But..." She smiled.
"But what?" I gritted my teeth.
"Do you like him?" She asked.
I thought about it. Do I like him?
I turned and looked at Jake who was still talking to Seth. He didn't seem to notice me looking at him.
"Bella?" Jess pulled my gaze from Jake.
"What? What?" I blinked.
"You were starting at him. You like him!" She squealed.
"Shhh! Not so loud!" I shushed her.
"Sure..." Jess giggled.
"Jess, can we please drop this?" I looked around us to see if anyone was in hearing range.
"Not until you admit that you like him!" She refused.
"Jess..!" I pleaded.
"Bella!" She mimicked me.
"Fine! fine! I like him Ok!" I whispered.
"Like who?"
Fuck...
"You like who?" Jake came up behind me with a smile on his face.
"Bella likes--"
"No one!" I interrupted.
"Come on Bella..You can't keep things from me." Jacob smiled.
"Yeah. Tell him, Bella..." Jess pushed.
"No one. I like no one." I repeated.
"Bella..." They said at the same time.
I looked at them frustrated.
"I tried. See you guys around." Jess glared at me and went by Mike.
"So, are you going to tell me?" Jake still pushed.
"No. Not now, not ever." I refused.
"You are so difficult." Jake glared at me.
"And you are so annoying." I laughed at him. He was so funny when was mad.
"Are you ready to go?"
"What's the rush?" I tilted my head.
"Nothing...I just want to get you back to Charlie before it gets too late." He wouldn't look at me.
"U sure?" What's up with him?
"Yeah. Go ahead and get your things. I'll be right here."
"Sure..." I hesitated but I went to grab my things.
I found my bag and slung it behind my back, but I didn't move. Why was he in such a rush to leave? Did I do or say something?
"Bella?"
"Coming!" I pushed the thoughts back and ran to Jake, who was waiting by the truck. I climbed into the passenger's side and Jake went into the driver's side. He didn't Face me the entire time.
The drive was silent. I didn't mind the quiet but when it came to jake, he was never quiet. And that made me worry.
"Please say something...."
"What Do you want me to say?"
"Just something. So it's not so quiet in here." I explained.
"Well, I have nothing to say." Jake stared at the road.
"Jacob, please! I can't stand this! Why are you acting like this?!" I yelled.
"Like what?! How am I acting?!" He yelled back.
I flinched. I think I hit a nerve. So, I backpedaled. "Look. I know your keeping something from me or something is going on with you and you won't tell me. Now, as your friend, I want to help you get over whatever it is. But, I can't do that if I don't know what it is."
He still refused to look at me. He stayed silent.
"Jacob Black! Answer me!"
"Your not my mother." He muttered.
"I'm not trying act like your mother, but I may have to if you won't stop acting like a ass." I fumed.
Jake still refused to speak or look at me and I groaned.
I know that he knows that he's keeping something from me.
"Bella, I know your trying to help, but this one thing...just please stay out of my life."
"No. I won't. I was in your life when you introduced me to the pack. There's no going back." I refused.
"Would it make you feel better if I told you?" He gave in.
"Yes." Yes! yes! yes! yes! I win!
"I'll tell you later. Just not now." He promised.
"Later." I wouldn't forget.
