Chapter 14

(3rd Person)

It had been two days after that threatening e-mail, (Y/N) was currently sitting in Principle Nezu's office with his arms crossed, beside him was Eri who clutched onto his hand tightly as they both stared at the... dog? Bear? Mouse? Whatever he was, he stared at them with a smile with his tiny suit and placing both his paws on the desk while staring directly at (Y/N). He hummed from the information (Y/N) told him, rubbing his chin.

Nezu: So, this little girl is a target of a potentially dangerous criminal... yes, I can see what your request is, after all, Aizawa probably told you, Mr Killa and Miss Yuko beforehand about the upcoming trip, correct?

(Y/N) nodded confusing Eri as she wasn't told about a trip, which meant he was going to leave her... she gripped (Y/N)'s hand tighter at the thought making him look down, using his thumb to reassuringly rub her hand.

Nezu: Mr (L/N), as much as I want to be noble and look after the child, we simply cannot...

Suddenly, the door burst open with all three in the room turning to face a man entering the room... though... (Y/N) had never seen him before as his hair was blonde and dishevelled, skinny with almost no muscle on his body... though the suit he wore seemed familiar.

???: Sorry for being late... Principle... I had to stop-

The man looked up, blue and hollow eyes wide as he saw who else was in the room. However, all (Y/N) did was tilt his head with a hum of confusion, the man instantly panicked, looking around the room for some reason before he slammed the door behind him, placing his back against the door still with panic adorning his features.

Nezu: Toshinori, what are you so panicky about?

Toshinori: Can't you see Principle!? The boy...

Nezu: Ah yes, Mr (L/N) was simply seeking for someone who could watch over Eri while he goes on that trip today, he assumes a powerful foe is after her... after all, he did send the boy a rather threatening e-mail.

The man seemed surprised at Nezu's calm nature, that only made (Y/N) confused even more while Eri was simply hiding behind (Y/N), scared of the new arrival since even though he was all bones, he was still towering over her like many people.

Nezu: Besides, if someone were to hide a secret from someone who had no knowledge of said secret, wouldn't panicking simply arouse more suspicion than necessary?

It seemed as though Toshinori got the hint, realising his stupidity at the current circumstances.

Toshinori: 'Right, I forgot that young (L/N) hasn't seen me transform into this state... so for all he knows, I'm simply a stranger, thank goodness the principle is able to keep a level head in these situations.'

Sighing, the blonde-haired man recomposed himself, growing his usual expression which seemed to be a straight line as his mouth, kind of like (Y/N)'s blank face, only his seemed to be with a hint of annoyance, but still, he smiled at both (Y/N) and Eri.

Toshinori: Terribly sorry about that you two, just call me Mr Yagi, I'm a... substitute teacher who came in place of All Might.

(Y/N): 'Isn't All Might supposed to be travelling with us? What happened?'

Nezu: Oh that, turns out All Might had to do some last minute business Mr (L/N), but, I'm fairly confident that you and the other two will be more than enough for any trouble that may occur... of course, I'm also confident nothing will go wrong during this trip.

(Y/N): 'Ok... but, what I was here for was...'

Nezu: Oh! I do apologise, I almost forgot what you were truly here for... while it's true I wish to look after the girl, I'm afraid paperwork cannot file itself...

Toshinori: If I may... perhaps I could be of assistance? I can look after the little one while you go on the trip Mr...?

Nezu: Oh right, he's (Y/N) (L/N).

Toshinori: Right! I will look after your little sister for you, after all, no one deserves to be attacked by villains, I may not be All Might, but I'll certainly do my best.

Eri: But... I don't want...

(Y/N) gave her his notebook, showing an answer he'd already written down.

(Y/N): 'I know you might not want me to leave you, but, it's necessary, I won't be able to protect you if you come along, just stay here with the teachers and I promise I'll come back for you when the trip's done... ok?'

Eri: But... But... (Y/N)... please...

(Y/N) sighed, giving her a reassuring hug much to Eri's surprise, she had no idea what to do considering she had never received such affection before... luckily, her instincts told her exactly what to do: wrapping her arms around the boy's neck and returning the hug. She wanted to refuse to let go... thinking that (Y/N) was going to break his promise of coming back, after all, she's had many promises broken to her by 'him' before, and even though she knew (Y/N) wasn't that man, she couldn't help but feel wary.

Suddenly, unknown to either Nezu nor Toshinori, (Y/N) turned his head, silently moving his lips as he whispered something into Eri's ear which made her go wide-eyed from hearing the unfamiliar voice. However, it was enough for her to suddenly grow a small smile, nodding while tears started to come out, once they released the hug, Toshinori came over and Eri looked up at the man with a look of conflict.

Nezu: You best get to class Mr (L/N), Aizawa isn't a patient one.

He nodded, heading out the door with Eri holding her hand out, but growing a brief sad expression from seeing the door close and (Y/N) head down the corridor. Toshinori sighed, placing a hand on his head.

Toshinori: I can't believe I almost revealed my secret to a student, one of the three we chose for that project no less.

Nezu: Yes, that was quite sloppy of you Toshinori, you must remember to use your head next time, all those times you've used muscles to get out of problems probably affected you yes?

That made the blonde man grow a sweat drop as he chuckled lowly, sighing while sitting on the sofa with Eri just staring at them both in confusion... which then changed into a thinking look, plotting something troublesome.

(Timeskip)

Homeroom was ready to begin, everyone sat in their respective seats as Aizawa stared everyone down with his usual tired look, however, this time the most perceptive of people could tell he was ready to throw something at them.

Aizawa: Today's going to be different, we'll be taking a small trip to an off-campus building where we will test your skills, you'll be supervised by three teachers: myself, All Might and a third teacher who we'll meet once we arrive.

Everyone instantly started mumbling, wondering what it could possibly be, until a single student raised his hand.

Sero: Uh, sir? What skills will be tested?

At that, Aizawa pulled out a card with a white background with the words 'rescue' in blue font on it.

Aizawa: Rescue skills, you'll be working in a location where disasters will be simulated for you all to test yourselves, don't disappoint, treat this exercise as if lives are on the line here.

Kirishima: Awesome! Rescue missions! This is what shows who's ready for the work of a pro!

Tsu: I'll finally be able to show my skills in water, ribbit.

Sofia: Rescue? What a waste of time.

Mark: Are you sure you don't want to be a villain or something?

Sofia: Like hell!

Mark: Well, you should know rescuing is a part of a hero's job, it's important you take out the villains yes, but, what about the civilians who will undoubtedly be affected by things such as natural disasters, accidents, villain attacks?

Sofia: Humans are smart enough to flee when danger presents itself, if they can't get out in time, that's their own damn fault. Like I said before, a hero should only focus on the villains that need to get pummelled! If you can't survive a natural disaster or a villain attack because you were too stupid to run, don't expect a hero to help, because they shouldn't.

Everyone looked at Sofia with disapproving looks, even Bakugou couldn't help but raise an eyebrow at her, if they didn't know any better, they'd think Sofia was a villain in disguise or something. (Y/N) sighed, looking down at his notebook and thinking of what would happen on this trip. He recalled the things he was told on many occasions by some people... mostly to do with how a hero should be.

Mark thought a hero should be a fearless fighter, someone who doesn't hesitate in anything they do, be it fighting a stronger opponent, risking their lives for civilians. Sofia thought a hero should be someone who uses their power to get through their problems, flaunt their superiority so crime wouldn't dare happen again. Izuku thought a hero is someone who should always push through everything with a smile on their face, not even fazed by whatever is thrown their way... all these different ideals, these different beliefs on what a hero should be, it was beginning to make (Y/N) wonder... just what does being a hero mean?

(Timeskip)

Currently, everyone was on the bus, either conversing with one another or occupying themselves with different ideas, the most notable being Jiro using her quirk to listen to music on her phone. However, as for the three powerhouses, they sat at the back in their hero costumes while (Y/N) seemed to carry a backpack.

Mark: What's with that? Last I checked, you had a school bag, not a backpack?

(Y/N) thought back to the reason for this backpack... he didn't even want it, it was just given to him by someone, he didn't recognise the person, he only remembered them wearing a black cloak that covered their entire body.

While on the bus though, the three who always stuck together, the three with immeasurable strength, all three of them shared a look, all of them with the same thought in mind as they recalled their first day in U.A and why it was they stuck together all the time.

(Flashback)

Aizawa: You three... were not chosen by U.A for normal reasons.

Sofia: Huh!?

All Might: Hear us out young heroes, we have... a reason as to why there are forty-three students in the hero course this year.

Mark: You mean, we weren't supposed to be here?

Aizawa: In a way... the hero course is split into two classes: A and B, each of them housing twenty students, nor more and no less. Last time, I expelled a whole class from the hero course because of their potential... but this year, we've decided to take on three extra students, you three.

(Y/N): 'Wait, you mean to tell me, that we three would've originally failed? What made you change your minds?'

At that, the two teachers grew silent, sharing a look as the three were surprised to see All Might's smile deflate, growing into a worried frown while Aizawa seemed more awake than he's ever been all day.

Aizawa: The reason we changed our minds... was for one project, we're conducting...

Mark: A project?

All Might: Yes... this... project was designed for students like you three... tell me young heroes, have you heard of the first ever quirk in existence?

Sofia: Of course, it was the luminescent baby in China.

Aizawa: That's what they say... but, forget about that fact kid, because it's a big lie.

All three go wide-eyed, surprised at the new fact while Aizawa sighed, dropping some eye drops into his eyes before he continued speaking.

Aizawa: Quirks go back way longer than that, the baby may be the first quirk user to be discovered by humans... but, that baby wasn't the first quirk user to say the least...

(Flashback end)

Their flashback was brought to an end when the bus suddenly jerked, everyone was surprised, jumping up and down while shouting out in surprise. When (Y/N)'s backpack jumped, he was surprised when he heard an almost inaudible squeak come from it... his head shot straight to the backpack, staring at it intensely.

Before anyone knew it, (Y/N) zipped open the bag, only to reveal a very familiar face popping out of the bag, rubbing her head while hissing in pain, she opened her red eyes, only to see (Y/N)'s wide and shocked (E/C) ones, the girl giggled nervously, holding up a bandaged hand as everyone shared the same look.

Eri: Hi...

Everyone except (Y/N): Eri!!!???

Aizawa: What are you all screaming for!?

He went wide-eyed himself at seeing Eri appear, he was about to scold (Y/N), only to see he was just as shocked to see her here making him sigh.

Aizawa: She must've followed you here somehow... when did you get the bag (L/N)?

(Y/N): 'It was given to me by someone before I got on the bus, I didn't recognise this person though...'

Aizawa: Hang on, you're telling me you accepted a bag from a complete stranger? Not only that, but said stranger was on U.A grounds? Damn... I knew the security was crap after all, if the press could get in, so could a stupid mysterious person...

Eri grew a look of guilt, seeing everyone's look, especially (Y/N) who seemed to be holding a hand over his face, hiding his disappointment and frustration that the Toshinori teacher or whoever he was didn't keep an eye on her... what was he doing!?

(With Toshinori)

Toshinori: Hehehe...

He was being distracted by a manga Eri gave him that belonged to (Y/N), the story was of a boy who dies an embarrassing death, and is given a second chance at life by helping another dimension deal with their enemy the demon king... not once did he notice the little rascal sneak out... that was until he heard the door open.

Nezu: Toshinori? Where's the girl?

Toshinori:...... Oh shit....

(With (Y/N))

For the time being, Eri would just have to come along... it's not like she's in danger since this was an off-campus part of U.A anyway, meaning security is tight and not to mention there were two teachers joining them. Anyway, once the bus stopped, everyone was more than pumped to get off the bus and spot a building that looked suspiciously familiar to a certain studios... yeah, it's totally not that.

Once they got off, they saw a rather unusual looking person wearing a massive coat and helmet waiting for them, a few were able to recognise them though.

Izuku: Oh my gosh! It's the space hero Thirteen!

Uraraka: Oh my gosh! I love Thirteen!

They were led inside where everyone gasped at the inside structure... there were several sections which all recreated a natural disaster such as a fire, an earthquake, a flood and the like. Once inside, that's when Thirteen spoke.

Thirteen: Welcome to our recreation fields! Here, your rescue skills can be trained and tested as each section represents a disaster that a hero must deal with during their jobs, the disasters range from a shipwreck to a landslide! With this goal of testing your rescue skills in mind, we decided to call it the Unforeseen Simulation Joint! Or, if you want to keep it short: the USJ!!!

Sofia: Ok... now I'm more than convinced they ripped off Universal...

Mark: You and me both...

Aizawa: By the way, where's All Might, shouldn't be here by now? He's running late...

The rest of the conversation (Y/N) didn't pick up on as he felt Eri hold his hand suddenly, he looked down to see her guilty expression.

Eri: I'm sorry... I didn't mean to be bad...

(Y/N) sighed, shaking his head and then pulling out his notebook again.

(Y/N): 'No, it's alright, just as long as you stick close to either Mr Aizawa or Thirteen, you can watch if you want, just be sure not to get too close.'

Eri grew a smile, happy that (Y/N) wasn't mad at her while she nodded.

Thirteen: Ok! Before we start, I have something to say! No wait... make that two things... actually, three, four, five, six, seven...

Sofia: Get on with it, we haven't got all day...

Thirteen: Of course! You all know my quirk correct? Black Hole?

Izuku: Of course! It's a super powerful quirk that's helped you in rescue missions all the time! Sucking up the debris that blocks civilians from escaping safely.

Thirteen: Right, but... it's also a very dangerous quirk. My quirk is able to break anything I suck in down on a molecular level, however, that can also be the same for people... one wrong move and I could kill someone I'm trying to save, that's why when using your quirks in the field, you need to be careful how you use them. The most useful and powerful of quirks are also the most dangerous. When you do use your quirks, be mindful how you use them, it'll make all the difference between a successful and a failure of a rescue, that is all, but, be sure to remember to do your best, plus ultra!

Everyone applauded Thirteen's speech, Aizawa simply scoffed, sighing while looking towards his class with his hands in his pockets.

Aizawa: Now that we've gotten that out of the way, we'll start with...

The lights suddenly flickered, everyone grew confused looks as the water in the fountain in the middle of the central plaza suddenly stopped working, but then it worked again only for a dark portal to suddenly start forming. Aizawa went wide-eyed, turning to face the portal with a look of disbelief while everyone watched a hand appear, opening the portal wide... and a man with hands covering his body to appear.

Aizawa: Stay together! Don't move! Thirteen, protect the students!

Mark: This doesn't seem like part of the training...

Bakugou: Did they get fake villains to beat up too!?

Aizawa: I said don't move!

Everyone flinched, his tone of voice showing he meant business while more people started appearing from the now massive dark portal, walking up to the bottom of the huge stairs and staring up at the heroes and students... when everyone saw Aizawa put on his goggles, that could only mean one thing...

Aizawa: Those guys... are real villains.

That made everyone go wide-eyed, surely the security would've warned them of villains? They would've known that they were coming beforehand, right!?

Sofia: Great, this is the best opportunity to prove ourselves!

Aizawa: Yuko! Take one step towards those villains and I'll expel you on the spot!

(Y/N) went wide-eyed even more, along with Eri as they spotted a familiar person walk through the portal: a girl the same age as the students. Her hair white as snow while silver eyes stared maliciously at everyone above, her hands and legs unable to be seen as her whole body save her bare feet and head were shrouded by a black cloak.

???: Now then... let's get the girl back for the boss...

To be continued...

(A/N): I calculate that volume 1 will be over in a mere three chapters guys and gals! We're coming close to the end!!! Oh! And again, I want to thank each and every one of you for helping with reaching 1K followers, so amazing!!!! Anyways, thank you guys and gals so much for the continued support and as always: eat one or more brownies every day!!!!
