Chapter 2 | Arguments Beginning to Brew

Vandal's plane landed, and he rushed out of the airport. He found a phone and called Seraphina on her cellphone. "Pick up, pick up, pick up," he muttered worriedly.

Seraphina answered the call. "If this is a scam, I'm hanging up," she said tiredly.

"Sera?" Vandal asked.

"You call me after how long, bastard?" Seraphina hissed.

"I had no idea where you were, let alone if you changed numbers or not for safety reasons. When I saw the heroes had attacked your house, I was worried. I know you can protect yourself with ease, but still," Vandal argued.

"How do you think I felt, Vandal, huh? When we left each other alone? That is one of my greatest fears: Being alone again. Don't call me. Don't visit me. I need some time to adjust to my new home," sobbed Seraphina, hanging up the phone. She placed her face in her hands and cried uncontrollably. There were so many emotions left over inside her from history that she was about to explode.

"Sera, I'm going to protect you. I've been doing that since forever, haven't I? From those villains for what they did to you? I promise," Vandal said in a recent memory.

"No, you won't," hissed Seraphina. "I can protect myself."

"I know that, but I'm still coming to see you if you'll let me," Vandal snapped.

"Leave me alone, you bastard," sobbed Seraphina.

"Sera, please, they're locked up, and you'll need all the help you can get!" Vandal yelled.

"Get out of my head," said Seraphina.

"I love you. I'll always love you no matter what," Vandal said.

"This isn't love, damn it!" Seraphina cried.

"Sera," Vandal said.

Seraphina brought her pictures with Vandal down and placed them into a box left in the living room. She made sure not to crack the glass.

She sighs. "You're not here though," she muttered. Seraphina taped the box up and placed it in the guest room's closet. She closed the door, almost slamming it shut. Anger was flooding through her veins, and she forced herself to calm down by shutting her eyes and blocking all emotion from her mind.

Her phone was ringing from a notification from the police:

There's a man asking for you. Says his name is Vandal Savage. Will you allow us to give him your contact information?

"No," said Seraphina.

Yes, miss.

Seraphina shut her phone off, sighing tiredly. She shut her eyes again, trying to block her emotions from her mind. This hurt her a lot. The thoughts kept running through her brain, confusing her. She let out a loud groan.

Someone knocked on the door, and she checked who it is through the peephole. Vandal. How on earth did he find her apartment?

"Can I come in?" he asked.

"No," said Seraphina.

"Sorry, may I come in?" asked Vandal.

"No," said Seraphina loudly.

"Why not?" Vandal asked with a normal pitched voice.

"I told you to leave me alone," said Seraphina.

"You know I can't do that," Vandal said.

"Get the Hell away from me before I call the police!" Seraphina snapped.

Vandal backed away. "Fine," he said. "Fine, I'll leave, but I'm going to protect you," he said.

"Ha, that's bull," said Seraphina dryly.

Vandal walked away. Seraphina groaned and looked at Wanted Ads in the newspaper, hoping to get a job. She found a position for entertainment at a coffee shop. She headed there that afternoon once the coast was clear.

"I'm here to see about the entertainer position," she told the manager quietly.

"Name?" the manager asks.

"Siren," muttered Seraphina. "It's a code name. My actual name is Seraphina Dean."

"Seraphina. Well, we've been expecting you," the manager said.

"What the Hell is going on?" Seraphina growled.

Ida knocked Seraphina out. She fell into Nathaniel's arms.

"That took forever. Now we can start with our plan," Timmothy said from behind the counter. He looked at the manager. "Thanks, Fred." He smiles, patting his shoulder gently.

Kenna honked the horn two times gently. "Come on!" she yelled out. Nathaniel carried Seraphina to the car. A police officer tased the "heroes", requesting backup on his walkie talkie.

"Oh, no. Ida, you're up!" Kenna shouted from the truck. Ida was one of the lucky ones that dodged the taser, Timothy and Nathaniel weren't as lucky. More officers arrived, tasing Ida. An officer got Seraphina safe and sound, a female officer tasing Kenna. Seraphina moaned softly, trying to wake up.

"More breaking news about the kidnapping spree," a reporter said as Vandal passed by a television store. "The 'heroes' have broken out of jail with the help of the coffee shop owner, Fred Barnes, and attempted to kidnap the same young woman from the first attempted kidnapping, who has nicknamed herself 'Siren.'

'These heroes are menaces to society. They will receive the death row as soon as possible,' commented one officer once she was questioned. 'Siren will spend some time in the hospital to recover mentally. Physically, she isn't harmed much. I worry about the mental and emotional effects these experiences have had on her.'

Siren is at the St. Mary's Medical Center, currently receiving treatment. More news to come. But first, the weather ... "

"She can handle herself, but I'm still going to see her," Vandal said. He ran to the hospital.

Seraphina kept her gaze on the ceiling, wanting to run out of the damn hospital. Vandal knocked on the door.

"Go away," she said.

"It's me," Vandal said gently.

"Get the Hell out," said Seraphina.

"I'm not in the room. I'm at the door," Vandal said, smirking.

"And I didn't mean the room. I meant the hospital," said Seraphina.

"You can't tell me to get out the hospital, Sera," Vandal said.

"You get five minutes to talk," said Seraphina. "Then it's my turn."

Vandal smiled. "I know you can take care of yourself, and I know we've argued with each other since we quote-unquote left each other, but I still love you, and I'm gonna protect you. Even if they're dead, they have a plan," Vandal said.

"I don't want you protecting me all the damn time," said Seraphina. "I don't want to feel like I have a bodyguard whenever I walk down the street. I want to be myself. I want to go off and enjoy my singing. I want to make it a career. I don't know if I can do that if I have to look over my shoulder to make sure I'm not being followed."

"That's what I'm here for," Vandal said.

Seraphina sighed.

"I'll leave. That was the time. I love you, and you know I mean it," Vandal said, walking away.

Seraphina shut her eyes and fell asleep.

Vandal watched her from a hidden camera he placed on the corner of the wall in her room, just to be safe. Seraphina slept soundly, her teal blue hair messy and greasy. Vandal smiles and sighs in relief.

"You'll be safer with me watching. I promise," he whispered to himself.
