Being His Girl

Kenzie Jane Collins flicked leisurely though the TV channels. She wasn't really looking for something to watch, she was just trying to pass the time. The tv planner was full of property development and antique programmes; Day time television was boring. She landed on the MTV channel, sighing. There was some showbiz news programme on. A well dressed brown haired lady was smiling contentedly out the screen, babbling on excitedly about a new movie that was being produced. Kenzie closed her eyes, listening to the audio from the tv,

"In other stories we have breaking news all the way from LA. The one and only Paul Dakers, teen pop sensation has admitted that he knows who 'the one' is. My associate Camrom McCue interviewed him earlier." Kenzie opened her eyes to see the camera switch to a studio with a large couch and matching chair in luxury fabric. A young man dressed semi casual was smiling into the camera, on the couch opposite sat another man with boyish looks and locks of brown hair.

"Hello! I am here with the one and only Paul Dakers who has a shocking tale to share. Paul," the camera zoomed out to show both of the men again before switching to a different angle and focusing on the other man," what is happening with you?" he questioned.

"Emm, well. I don't know where to start really!" he laughed nervously.

"Well, you said that in a series of dreams a girl was prominently featured...." he tailed off, encouraging his guest to begin his story.

"Yeah. It's weird. Everyone thinks I'm crazy but I know I'm not. I have been dreaming about this girl every night for the past two weeks. And well, I know she is the one I want to marry. I don't know her name, or exactly where she lives, but I know she lives in Scotland, she has black hair that sits on her shoulder and she is quite small - well smaller than me. She sings and writes songs and although she tells no one, she wants a career out of it. I need to find her and I will go to the end of the earth to do that." he finished his speech, his eyes wide and burning.

"Well, that's crazy!" the interviewer said confirming his thoughts, "how can you know you wanna marry someone just through a few dreams! You're 17! Shouldn't you live a bit. What age is this girl any way?"

The camera switched back to the teen, who was now nervously wringing his hands together, "uhh well, you see, I guess this is the worst bit. She is 14. " he met his interviewers shocked expression. "I know I know. But it's only three years. I know it can be considered illegal in some places but when we're 20 and 23 no one will bat an eyelid! It'll work out fine eventually...." he finished helplessly.

"Umm, well. What a story! What are you going to do to meet her?" he quieried.

"Whole tour around Scotland, every major city. Meets and greets every other day. I'll wander the streets, go door to door, go to every gig I can. Go to schools. Anything. I will do anything to find her. I will." his eyes burnt with passion and his brown furrowed. He was panting slightly from the speech he had given.

"Wow! Wow, wow, wow. Someone has his life planned out and he isn't changing for anyone!" the interviewers botox held face filled the screen. " Well, we will most definitely be keeping up with this story over the next couple of months. I am Cameron McCue, reporting for MTV star news."

Adverts began to play across the screen and Kenzie flicked channel again. That was something new. That Paul guy was obviously looking for a happily ever after, and of all places he was expecting to find it in Scotland. She would never hear the end of it at school, all the black haired petite girls like herself would go mad. They would drop their boyfriends, start dressing a little sluttier... Some blonde girls would probably dye their hair and chop it all off. When the reality would be that chances are none of them would be the girl. There might not even be a girl! Life isn't a fairytale. There is no happily ever afters. That boy needed to wake up. Although she would get a few laughs out of the girls who would suddenly be writing songs...

Me, on the other hand, Kenzie thought, would stay out of that guys way. Kenzie was small, with black hair that flicked out because it bounced off her shoulder. Not to mention the fact that she was in third year, and was 14 years old. But that interview had reminded her of something, she had a half written song sitting upstairs beside her guitar that she needed inspiration to finish.

Grabbing her jacket, she headed outside, locking the door behind her. Her mum and dad were out for lunch, so she was leaving an empty house. She walked while shuruging on her jacket. She walked towards the forest that sat a few hundred yards east of her house. That was where she would go to think and to get away from civilisation. She headed deep into the trees towards her normal shelter, there was a old fallen tree about a mile in that provided a scenic place to sit, as well as a hiding place, as trees grew closely around it, and moss covered every single bit of bark. It was quaint and quirky, and Kenzie had immediately fell in the love with the secret spot from the first time she saw it on her on one of her wanders when she was 8. No one else knew about it, it was her special place.

She carefully pulled her little notebook out of her jacket pocket. She had roughly the chords and lyrics scribbled down there, the actual written on stave music was hidden away in her bedroom. Chewing on the pen she also brought out of her pocket she began to think.

Kenzie sat in that very spot for hours. No one looked for her, her parents were used to her wandering when she was having a hard time or she just wanted to think. She preferred to be alone a lot, and only really had one friend, even so, she only really spoke to that friend in school. Kenzie didn't feel the need for other people. She had herself and she believed other people to trust in was overrated.

And she only moved from her den when her song was written and perfected. It was beginning to get dark, but that didn't really bother her. She would find the way home easily.
