1: Being In Love

It was a normal day as I woke up, completed my daily routine and went to the kitchen to make a coffee for myself.

I knew my roommates Aryan and Parth will be sleeping till late and so I can enjoy my coffee with some alone time.

We had been friends since school and by luck got the same University. Parth is a chef in a renowned 5 star restaurant. Yes, he had a hard time trying to convince his parents but he managed it somehow. Aryan is the one with a silver spoon. He is the only child of his very rich parents. His father owns a business and Aryan is a wannabe model. With his good looks and some family connections, he is sure to get a huge break in the film industry.

Now me, Randhir, I come from a middle class family. My father is a teacher. I wanted to go to the army but I had to give up my dream when I suffered a major accident in my teenage when I fell off a bike and dislocated my shoulder. And thus, I could never apply for army. This is the reason why I still can't ride bikes, I have got a huge hatred and phobia of them. As of now, I am pursuing my masters degree in automobile engineering. I do get sad for not being able to live my dream but I can't blame anyone for this. So yes, I try to be happy in what I have.

Taking small sips of my coffee I stood near my window which overlooked another apartment which had been vacant for a while. But today something was different. It was being cleaned and re decorated enough for someone to live. Umm why? Were we getting new neighbors?

Ahh, whatever!

Picking out my clothes I went to take a bath before the hooligans woke up and started disturbing my peace time.

                    ---------------------

After a long day, I was back from the University. I had to walk half of the way to the apartment because again I had missed my bus due to Prof. Thakur. See I liked him, his way of teaching was very innovative and fun but the problem was he liked and trusted me a bit too much! When he started speaking on any of his favorite topic he never had any track of time and this caused me to miss my bus almost every Friday.

Well, I don't mind until I get some free time for me to take rest but this was my bad day because as soon as I entered the house both my idiot friends started following me.

"What?" I asked annoyed. All I wanted was some rest but they wouldn't leave me alone.

"Woah! Dude, calm down. We have a news." This was Parth.

"Ok... Shoot!" I said flopping on the bed after loosening my tie.

"So if you saw, the other apartment is being cleaned..." Aryan started, "This means someone is going to come there."

"Yeah ok... So?"

"Guess who is going to arrive?" Aryan had a very bad habit of making suspense out of nothing.

"Who?" I asked rolling my eyes.

"Three girls." He almost shouted and raised his fist for a fist bump.

"Three girls... So?" I asked confused looking between a very enthusiastic Aryan and Parth who had a huge grin on his face. Both of them looked at me with a weird look.

"Dude... Three girls. You see three boys, three girls." Parth tried to show me a connection. Maybe I was very tired so I still couldn't understand his inference.

"I still don't get you. If you are done then please leave, I am really tired." Parth face palmed himself at my reply.

Aryan came to me and whispered cautiously, "Bro, tell me. Do you swing for the other side or something?" I wanted to laugh at his expression but instead gave him a mischievous smile and pulled his shirt, "Yes, you are right. Come with me. I will show you the best time of the world." With this, I bit my lip and Aryan's eyes widened.

"Oh God, leave me. Parth he has gone mad help me." He started thrashing himself in my hold and Parth was rolling on the floor laughing. Quite literally. I suddenly let him go and due to this impact he fell on his butt and glared at me.

"Now guys, whatever happens, you are not going to tell me anything about our new neighbors. I am not interested at all. I already have a fair share of problems in my own life, I don't want any new ones. Now scram!" I pushed them out of the room and closed the door with a bang.

Pulling out my shirt, I stood near the window and looked at the balcony of the room. I think I will have to close this window because it overlooks the other room if the door of balcony is open. The girl living on the other room won't be exactly comfortable if she knows that I can look at her anytime.

Man, I will miss this window. Every night when I can't sleep, I look out if this window at everybody living a happy life. Living their dreams. Not everybody has a bad luck like me. I guess, I am the chosen one!

Giving a bitter smile, I lied down on the bed and drifted off to a dreamless sleep.

                      -------------------

Next morning, my sleep got broken accidentally. Not because of my alarm, there was an hour for my alarm to ring, but due to the commotion outside my room.

Why?

Oh yes, the girls are arriving today.

Man! Can't someone have some rest on a Saturday!

Annoyed I got up from the bed and left my room and saw something I didn't expect.

My roommates were up... At 6 am. What the hell? Am I dreaming?

"Randhir, come here." Aryan shouted on top of his lungs.

Yeah, definitely not dreaming!

Out in the balcony, I saw Aryan and Parth looking at the road like hungry dogs. Parth was sitting across the boundary of the balcony. One hard shove and i would be having a murder charge on my head.

Some luggage was being unloaded and a cab stopped near them. Two girls stepped out of it. One of them had wavy hair and was wearing a t shirt with joggers while other who looked a bit chic had straight hair which were dyed in red from bottom. She was wearing a yellow dress.

"The yellow dress one is mine." Parth whisper shouted and I gave him a dirty look.

They are calling dibs on girls even before knowing their name or their relationship status. How dumb can they be? Sometimes, I doubt my choice of friends.

They started discussing about the girls and how they were going to approach them. Rolling my eyes, I went to my room and came out with a newspaper in my hand. Unlike them, I have something better to do in my life.

"Don't worry dude, the third girl would be here soon. But man, I am in love at first sight with that yellow dress girl." Parth swooned and I rolled my eyes again. He had love at first sight almost five times a day. This was nothing new for us.

And love at first sight? I mean seriously! This is not some Romeo and Juliet shit. There is nothing such as love at first sight.

Only attraction takes place at first sight.

"I think we should go and help the girls." Aryan suggested.

"No, I am not going anywhere." I said, not looking up from newspaper.

"Yes, you are coming with us." Both the boys said in unison and pulled the newspaper out of my hands.

At the same time, I saw a girl riding a bike stopping near the other girls. She took off her helmet and gave her a head a little shake which resulted in her black hair falling like a sheet on her shoulders. She got off the bike and said something to the girls, in the reply of which they nodded.

I couldn't help but stare at her. She was not the most beautiful girl I had ever seen but there was something different about her. Her personality demanded attention.

Attraction at first sight was taking place in the heart of Randhir Shekhawat.

"I don't think you will like her Randhir. She is a bit too bold for your liking." Parth said, well he wasn't entirely false.

"But I like her." The words came out of my mouth before I could think.

"What?!" Both the boys looked at me with disbelief and I gave them a sheepish smile.

"Let's go and help them out." I whispered and they grinned as we started walking towards the girls.

When we reached there the bike girl... Well I don't know her name... Was not there. Only her two friends were standing there looking at the luggage being unloaded.

"Hey, so you guys are new here?" Parth approached the yellow dress girl and she nodded with a small smile which made him continue, "We live just across you in that apartment. You can call us anytime you need help."

"Actually, we were thinking if we can help you with the boxes." This time it was Aryan who threw his most Charming smile towards  the girl in joggers who nodded in affirmation.

Now let me tell you something about Aryan's world famous smile. It was only because of this smile that he got his ways with the ladies. Whenever he genuinely smiled, he looked really innocent and cute and the girls swooned on him. Add some flirting with that and Voila! Your work is done!

Want to get an extra beer? Just ask Aryan to flash his smile at the barista.

That hot headed teacher won't allow you to attend the class late? Aryan, please help us with a smile.

Want the number of your crush? Why worry when you have Aryan as your friend.

Though he was really amused at the effect the smile had on girls, he always used to say that he will want to stay with a girl who doesn't gets affected like that.

Maybe, his search was completed. The girl in black joggers didn't as much as give us a second glance when we picked up the boxes and headed inside.

I was walking as well as thinking and so I couldn't see the Bike Girl until I had bumped in her, but she held the box before it could fall.

"Uhh... I am sorry! Didn't see you there!" Very nice first impression, Randhir Shekhawat! I mentally cussed at myself for this un elegant way of meeting her for the first time.

"It's ok. Give me the box." She spoke, her voice deep but still melodious. She had a typical 'no - nonsense' voice.

"Are you going to give me the box?" She asked again, impatient.

Wow Randhir, you zoned out at her. You are on fire! Not.

"Oh yes, sorry. Take care it's..." Before I could complete my sentence she had turned and started walking away, "... Heavy." I completed the sentence in a whisper and went out for another box.

After keeping all the boxes upstairs, I went outside and stood with the other guys. The Bike Girl was in her room and other two were arguing with the loaders.

"We had agreed on 500. Moreover you didn't even get the boxes upstairs." The girl in jogger said.

"No ma'am, it was 700. Nothing less than 700 will be taken."

"Why are you guys cheating?" The girl in yellow dress spoke.

Before they could answer, the Bike Girl came to them and asked the matter. She had taken off the leather jacket and her hair were tied in a ponytail.

"Sanyu, these guys are cheating. They are asking for 700 when the deal was off 500." The joggers girl explained.

By this time, Bike Girl or Sanyu was standing in front of that guy.

"Sanyu ? What kind of name is that?" Aryan added his comment.

"Exactly dude, Sanyu sounds so weird. Best of luck Randhir, calling her Sanyu!" Parth patted my shoulder and I glared at him.

Meanwhile, Sanyu looked at the guy who flinched and started explaining without even being asked to.

"Ma'am you are mistaken, we had decided for 700. Please give me my money so we can go." He managed to form a coherent sentence, still looking nervous.

I guess it was just the effect of the Bike Girl.

She smirked and pulled out her wallet. She handed out 700 to the guy who looked surprised himself. He snatched it and turned and was about to go when Sanyu held his hand, "From next time, work harder for these 200." With this she let go of his wrist and he ran off.

She turned towards the girls who looked annoyed.

"Why did you pay the guy extra?"

"It's my father's money dude. If I don't spend it, fungus starts growing on it. Also, I can't use his money for charity, right?" She smirked again and then looked at us.

We straightened as she came to us along with the girls. My throat felt dry.

Another one of Sanyu effect, I guess.

"How much do we need to pay to them?" She asked opening the wallet.

What? She considers us as workers. Damn! I knew helping them wasn't such a good idea.

"No Sanyu, they are our neighbors. They came to help us." The girl in yellow dress looked at Parth with a smile.

"Oh, thanks for your help." Sanyu said nonchalantly and started towards her apartment but the joggers girl held her wrist.

"Sorry guys, she is not always this grumpy. It's just she is tired today." She looked at us with a smile.

Ok now I know why she was unaffected by Aryan's smile. She had a smile 1000 times better than his. One look at my friend and I knew that he had lost his heart to her knee melting smile.

"By the way, she is Sanyu... I mean Sanyukta Aggarwal. I am Sanaya Jha and she is Vidushi Kumar." The jogger girl introduced themselves to us.

"Nice meeting you girls, I am Parth Kashyap, this guy here is Aryan and he is Randhir Shekhawat."

After the introduction session we came back to our apartment.

I was lucky that my room overlooked Sanyukta's room but Parth and Aryan were exchanging their rooms.

Also, I am never going to shut this window. She won't know that I am looking at her. Yes, you can call me a creep.

But it's just that I am attracted to her in ways I can't explain!
