Training
Robin had been waiting for Spirit to wake up ever since he got to the hospital that morning. Clockwork let the two heroes into the ghost zone so they could see the halfa and he didn't look good. Granted he looked better then he had just last night but Robin was still worried about him, which is why it frustrated him that he couldn't do anything.
Batman was talking to the doctors so he wasn't in the room at the moment which Robin was a bit grateful for. Robin waited, and waited, and waited until he eventually fell asleep, he hadn't slept well that night because he was worried about Spirit. He kept wondering if he was okay or what would happen if Spirit woke up and he wasn't there.
Spirit woke up some time later, everything hurt and he didn't want to move but he was awake. As soon as he opened his eyes the lights practically blinded him and he closed his eyes before he groaned. His head hurt and that just make it infinitely worse, why did people seem to insist on making lights bright as hell in hospitals?
Robin woke up when he heard someone groan, he looked around the room before he saw that Spirit was awake. His eyes widened before he smiled, "So you're finally awake."
Spirit looked at him and smiled, "Hey." The halfa then frowned, "What happened?"
Robin frowned, "You were kidnapped, the team was sent by Batman to save you, he would have gone himself but he had to help the League."
Spirit looked him in the eye, "You're not telling me something."
Robin hesitated, he knew Spirit wasn't going to be happy but he deserved to know what he and Batman told the team. "We had to tell the others about you, we told them everything, I didn't want to but they needed to know what was going on, I'm sorry."
Spirit was silent for a minute, he hadn't wanted the others to know about who, or what, he is but he could see why they told them. Spirit mentally sighed, "I really didn't want them to know all of that."
Robin looked away, "I'm sorry, but Batman didn't want to take any chances, we wouldn't have told them if we didn't think we had to."
Spirit ran a hand through his hair, "What did they say?"
"They were shocked, and a little sad that you didn't tell them any of it yourself."
Spirit rolled his eyes, "It's not like they care."
Robin held Spirit's hand, "They do care, you should have seen them when they found out, they're really worried about you."
Spirit looked away before he rubbed his eyes, "This is going to be a bitch to deal with."
Robin couldn't help but laugh and he kissed Spirit's hand, "Well you won't have to deal with it alone."
Spirit smiled, "Thanks."
Robin smiled before he frowned a little, "You're hungry."
Spirit looked away, "I'm fine."
"No you're not, it's been over a week since the last time you drank my blood and you're injured." Spirit refused to look at him and Robin mentally sighed, "You know I'll let you drink my blood, I don't want you to starve."
Spirit looked at Robin again after a few seconds, "Are you sure?"
Robin smiled, "Do you really need to ask me that every time?"
"Yes."
Robin laughed a little, "I'm sure." Spirit hesitated before he moved to Robin's neck and nuzzled his neck before biting him. When Spirit pulled away Robin found a band-aid and put it on the puncture marks before sitting down again.
Spirit mentally sighed, "So how much did you both tell them?"
Robin hesitated, "Everything, even the part about you being a halfa."
"Let me guess, they think I'm some sort of weird dangerous creature now."
Robin shook his head, "They want to know why you didn't tell them." Spirit looked away and Robin kissed the halfa's forehead, "You should get some sleep, you're still hurt."
Spirit just nodded and laid down, Robin held his hand and Spirit smiled a little, he was glad Robin was there. Robin then remembered something, something important, and he kissed Spirit's hand again, "Happy birthday."
Spirit looked a bit surprised, he had forgotten about his birthday, before he smiled again, "Thanks."
Robin smiled back and let Spirit fall asleep, he eventually followed the halfa's example and closed his eyes. Three days passed, Spirit had refused to see anyone but Robin, Batman, and Alfred when he couldn't even walk on his own. He had gotten better over the next several days and he finally agreed to let the team see him, though he wasn't allowed to leave the ghost zone.
That meant the team had to go to the ghost zone, Robin had already told the team and they were all either excited or nervous. Since Clockwork was busy, though he wouldn't say with what, Wulf was the one that opened the portal for the team. Once they all stepped through the werewolf like ghost lead to where Spirit was in the Far Frozen.
Rocket spoke, "Why is it so cold here?"
Robin spoke, "It's the Far Frozen, it's always cold."
Artemis spoke, "But why do ghosts live here?"
Robin shrugged, "Some of them like the cold, including Spirit." The heroes were going to keep asking questions but they heard something ahead of them and they walked faster to figure out what it was. When they got closer they saw what it was, Spirit and the ghost that Robin said was named Fright Knight were having a sword fight.
Spirit side stepped Fright Knight's sword before taking a swing at the ghost, who just barely got out of the way in time. Fright Knight attacked again and Spirit ducked to avoid the blow before swinging his sword up and disarming the knight. Spirit knocked them off balance and Fright Knight fell in the snow and Spirit pointed his sword at the knight.
Spirit smirked, "I win."
Fright Knight smiled, though it was very hard to tell, "Indeed you did my king."
Spirit held out his hand to the ghost and Fright Knight took it, the halfa helped him stand and Frostbite spoke, "Looks like it's my turn then."
Spirit handed Fright Knight his sword and looked at the snow yeti, "Bring it." The two started their sparring match and the team walked closer and saw Batman standing off to the sidelines watching. The young heroes walked closer and stopped next to the dark knight and Robin looked at him, "You let him train?"
Batman quietly sighed, "I tried to talk him out of it but he insisted."
Clockwork floated up to the heroes, "He's very strong willed, it's pointless to try and change his mind about training."
Kid Flash looked at the master of time in shock, "Wait, training?"
Fright Knight looked at him, "This is how he trains, everyday, he only skips training when he has to."
Miss Martian looked worried, "But he's hurt, he shouldn't be training right now."
Clockwork looked at the halfa, "He won't let the pain he's feeling stop him."
The heroes looked concerned for the halfa but they didn't get to say anything else because Spirit flipped Frostbite over his shoulder. The ghost hit the snow and he groaned, "I yield great one, you win."
Spirit rolled his shoulder, it was starting to hurt more then he'd care to admit, and he held his hand out to the snow yeti and helped him stand. Clockwork floated toward the halfa, "I believe it is my turn to train you."
Spirit nodded, Frostbite went to stand with the others and Clockwork spoke, "I know you've made progress with your other powers."
Spirit then remembered that he had learned how to control some of his powers better, though he only mastered one. Spirit looked at his primary mentor, "I can finally teleport without screwing it up."
Clockwork nodded, a silent signal to show him, a Spirit concentrated for a split second before he teleported. There had been a mark made previously in the snow and Spirit teleported in that exact spot, as well as teleporting to a few other places that were close by. Clockwork smiled just a little, "Very good, but are you able to teleport long distances?"
Spirit smirked before he teleported and disappeared, when he reappeared he was holding a small gear. "I think you'll recognize this."
Clockwork almost laughed, "So you've been able to master teleportation, and your other abilities?"
"Still working on the electricity thing, same with the other two." The heroes now looked very shocked and confused, Spirit could teleport, actually teleport, but he still had other powers he hadn't mastered yet. He had several abilities they knew about and they thought he was already strong, so what were the other powers they didn't know about?
Clockwork pretended to think for a second, "Then let's see how good you are at using them in a fight."
Spirit nodded, since Clockwork couldn't use a majority of his time tricks on him because of the medallion he had on the fight would be easier. Though that didn't mean he'd be able to beat Clockwork as easily as he beat Frostbite and Fright Knight. The fight started and the heroes were amazed, they had never paid attention to how Spirit fought until now.
Since they never trained with him and they didn't have a chance to see him while they were fighting this was new to them. Since Spirit got hurt on most missions many of them thought he was inexperienced or weak. They were now finding that, that wasn't the case, Spirit was surprisingly fast, fighting with more skill then any adult would usually have.
They could tell from watching alone that he was stronger then they thought, he definitely wasn't a normal kid. Spirit was different with this fight then he had been with Frostbite and Fright Knight, he took this fight seriously. He was faster, put more power behind his attacks, and was careful about not letting Clockwork push him into a corner.
It took longer for someone to win this fight, Spirit managed to win by taking Clockwork's staff. He had to use his teleportation abilities to do it, and Spirit was sure Clockwork let him take it, but he still managed to win. Clockwork turned to the young king and smiled, "Congratulations, you won."
"I know you let me take your staff, you can't fool me."
Clockwork nodded, "True, but I let you take it for a reason, which doesn't include your torn stitches in case you're wondering."
Spirit groaned, "Son of a bitch, fine, I'm done training for now, but I'm still training tomorrow."
Clockwork nodded, "I expect nothing less."
Spirit tossed Clockwork his staff and Frostbite walked up to the halfa, "Come along great one, I shall take you back to the hospital."
Spirit mentally sighed before he nodded and Frostbite lead the halfa to the hospital and the team struggled to keep up. Kid Flash had an easier time but it was still difficult to walk through all the snow and the two were quick. By the time the team got there one of the nurses had already stitched up Spirit's wound again.
This was the moment Spirit was dreading, the moment he would be alone with the team, now he had to explain. He had to tell them everything and explain why he kept all of it a secret, why did his life have to be so god damn complicated?
*****
Okay, before anyone asks why I haven't updated for the last several days let me explain. This chapter was really weird because I wrote it when I was tired so I had to fix it before posting it. While I was fixing it I also came up with a new story, it's not too long but I'll be posting it when I'm done writing it because fuck it, I'm bored.
