I Care

The team quickly made their way to the bio-ship, as soon as they all sat in their seats the bio-ship took off. Robin was trying to at least hack into the security cameras while they flew, he needed to know what was going on. It took a while, the GIW might be full of idiots but the fact that they kept each of their bases so isolated from everything was smart.

It might also create a lot of problems but it was still smart when it came to hackers like Robin trying to get into their systems. While he was doing that Kid Flash spoke, "I'm still confused, how can Spirit be half human but half vampire ghost at the same time?"

Robin mentally sighed, "Spirit was electrocuted when he died, but the electricity was charged with ectoplasm. The ectoplasm changed his DNA, it both killed him and saved him at the same time, making him half ghost and half human. The vampire thing is a little harder to explain, think of vampirism like a virus that affects your blood."

"To get turned you either have to consume a vampires blood or it has to get into an open wound. After you get infected it changes you to make you into a vampire, think of a vampires weaknesses as side effects. The virus can only infect a certain species, normal vampires can only turn humans, vampire ghosts can only turn ghosts."

"Spirit was turned by another vampire ghost so it only affected his ghost half, his human half wasn't affected. When it affected his ghost half it didn't take anything away from it, if anything it added to it, sort of merging with it for lack of a better term. It made him a vampire ghost instead of part ghost and part vampire, making it so he's still just a halfa."

Superboy looked confused, "What's a halfa?"

"A half ghost half human hybrid, that's what other ghosts started calling Spirit and it sort of stuck."

Aqualad looked at Robin, "There is a question I have been meaning to ask for a while."

Robin glanced at him, "What is it?"

"None of us know Spirit's real name, do you know what it is?"

Robin paused for a few seconds before he nodded, "Spirit told me his human name, and before you ask I can't tell you what it is. If he wants you to know he'll tell you, it took over a year for him to tell me so you might have to be patient."

The heroes thought about what Robin said for a minute before they all looked out the window and hoped they'd get to Spirit soon. Robin continued trying to hack into the GIW's security cameras, they had only been flying for about half an hour but he was getting frustrated. Just when he felt like throwing something he finally got in, he inwardly cheered at the small victory.

Robin looked at the others, "Guys, I just hacked into the security cameras."

Aqualad looked at him, "Put it on screen."

Robin quickly put it on screen, Robin went through the cameras to try and find something that might tell them what was going on. After a few seconds Artemis spoke, "Wait, go back."

Robin went back to the previous camera, how he had missed it was beyond him but he was glad Artemis caught it. Spirit was in a brightly lit white room, he was tied to a chair with ghost proof chains and two agents were standing in front of him. It was easy to tell that he had a lot of injuries, there was blood everywhere in the room but Spirit just looked bored.

One of the agents spoke, "For the last time, tell us about those heroes you were with in Bialya and Geneva. Why were you at Haley's Circus, and what the hell were you doing with those heroes, tell us and we might go easy on you."

Spirit looked at the agent, "I'm not telling you anything, you can cut me open and torture me as much as you want but I still won't tell you. Why don't you just go and ask your friend agent Faraday, maybe call some of your buddies in Bialya. Besides, what the hell's the point in telling someone with an IQ that you can count on a single hand?"

The agent looked pissed and he punched Spirit in the face Spirit looked mildly annoyed now, "That the best you got?"

The agent looked completely enraged now, "You cocky little prick, let me tell you exactly what's going to happen. We will get you to talk, and until we do we're going to give you a whole new definition of the word hell. After that we're going to keep you locked up in this place for the rest of your worthless pathetic life."

"You're going to die, cold and alone, and when you do those little heroes you've been hanging out with aren't going to care, because you're just a filthy ghost."

Spirit just shrugged and leaned back in his chair, "I died like that the first time so why not make this whole thing come full circle. And I know they aren't going to care, they never have, so you're wasting your breath telling me that."

The second agent spoke, "Then why the hell won't you say anything about them if you don't care?"

"I said they didn't care, I never said I didn't, I'm not telling you anything because I actually give a damn despite what you think."

The first agent practically growled in anger and grabbed Spirit's hair, "You can't care about anything! You're just a ghost, you can't feel emotions or pain because you're a monster that shouldn't even exist! And when we're done with you we're going to go after those stupid heroes and kill them too!"

Spirit growled and headbutted the agent in the face which broke his nose, "You get anywhere near them and I'll make you wish you were never born!"

The agent, who was previously holding his bleeding nose, walked up to Spirit and punched him again. Spirit spit the blood that was in his mouth at the agent and it landed on his face, the agent looked like he was going to kill Spirit. The second agent had to pull the first out of the room, they still needed Spirit alive after all, and the door slammed shut.

Spirit growled a little, "Prick." He then sighed and leaned back in the chair before looked at the ceiling, he looked so tired it was painful. He was quiet for a second before he spoke, "I'm going to die here aren't I?"

The camera in the room then turned to static, the team sat staring at the screen in silence before it disappeared. After a few minutes Zatanna finally spoke, "What was that?"

Kid Flash looked pale, "I think I'm going to be sick."

Miss Martian looked like she was going to cry, "How can they do that to someone?"

Robin tried to stay calm, Spirit mentioned agent Faraday, the agent from interpol they met at Haley's Circus. That was around the time that Spirit started acting strange, Spirit knew that Faraday might be working with the GIW. Robin hadn't gotten a chance to ask what was wrong and Spirit almost never talked about what was bothering him if someone didn't ask.

If Robin ever saw Faraday again he'd kill him, he couldn't believe he hadn't even thought that Faraday might be involved. Spirit suddenly started acting weird, it had been months since Bialya but they somehow found him all of a sudden? He was pissed, beyond pissed, but he had to focus on getting Spirit back, which meant he had to try and calm down.

After several minutes Aqualad looked at Robin, "How long do you think Spirit will be able to last?"

Robin looked at him, "Spirit's a lot stronger then he looks, if anyone can survive this it's him."

Artemis hesitated before she spoke, "How long did he last the first time?"

Robin looked away, "He was taken when he was five, he left not long after he got his powers so about three years."

Rocket put her head in her hands, "This is so messed up."

Robin mentally sighed, "That's a serious understatement, but try to keep it together, we can't save Spirit if we start falling apart before we even get there."

It seemed like it was then that the other heroes realized that Robin as terrified, he was terrified for Spirit. They honestly hadn't known that he could get scared, but he wasn't scared of a villain, he was scared of losing Spirit. They were still getting used to the idea that Robin was dating Spirit and this realization made them question a lot of what happened in the past.

Was Robin this worried when Spirit got hurt on that mission in Santa Prisca, or when he was captured in Bialya? They honestly had no clue, but at this point they couldn't blame Robin for being so worried, they were all worried. There was one thing they all knew, they had to save Spirit, they couldn't fail, for Spirit's sake.
