Healing
(Skipping episode 11 and 12, kind of)
Spirit was worried, beyond worried, immensely worried, the feeling that told him Robin was in danger was affecting him. As soon as he felt it he managed to walk out of the medical wing in the batcave and get to the batcomputer. When he tried using it to call Robin it didn't work, the blinding pain Spirit was feeling made it hard to stay standing.
It had been about a week but he was still badly injured, it turned out that he had been poisoned, the agents also used a few other things that slowed his healing process. The agents probably wanted to keep him incapacitated, it didn't really work before but now it was really messing with him. Spirit called Batman and when he picked up he looked slightly irritated at first but he soon looked concerned when he saw Spirit.
"Spirit, what's going on?"
Spirit held his side before he spoke, "Something's wrong with Robin, I tried to call him but something's blocking the signal."
"I'm guessing you felt like he was in danger first?"
Spirit nodded, "It's not like it normally is either, it's stronger then it usually, he's in life threatening danger."
Batman thought for a second, "Do you think you can get to the zeta tubes?"
Spirit nodded again, "I think so, it might take a few minutes but I can manage."
"Try going to the mountain, if you can't you'll end up at the Watchtower."
"Got it, try to get to him on your end." Batman nodded and hung up, Spirit took a deep breath before slowly making his way to the zeta tubes. When he finally got there he was shaking a bit and he was out of breath, it was incredibly difficult to move at the moment. Spirit walked inside the zeta tubes and when he reappeared he was in a place he hadn't been to before.
Spirit guessed that this was the Watchtower, he slowly made his way out of the zeta tubes and Batman ran in. Spirit fell to his knees and he tried to catch his breath while waiting for the pain to subside a bit. Batman knelt next to him and the other mentors ran in, Spirit managed to speak, "I'm guessing the zeta tubes at the mountain aren't working."
Batman shook his head a little, "We've been trying but they've been shut down."
Spirit managed to stand and Batman looked concerned, he looked like he'd pass out at any moment. Spirit spoke, "Have you tried turning them back on manually?"
"We're trying that now but something's stopping us from getting in."
Spirit wiped some of the sweat off his forehead and looked at Batman, "Mind if I try?"
Batman nodded, Spirit tried to walk but when he almost fell Batman opted to carry him despite the halfa's protests. Batman carried him to the nearest computer, which was the main computer at the Watchtower, and set him down. Spirit sat in the chair, because standing was exhausting, and he worked on getting the zeta tubes at the mountain to turn on.
Spirit used some of his vampire speed to type faster because he was getting even more worried about Robin. The feeling was getting stronger which wasn't a good sign, after several long minutes Spirit managed to get the zeta tubes working. Spirit's vision started going blurry again and Batman helped him stand, Black Canary and Captain Atom joined the mentors.
Batman had to help Spirit walk to the zeta tubes, he would have just carried the halfa but he refused to let him. The group got to the zeta tubes and Spirit walked through with Batman, once they got through Spirit felt a strong wind. Spirit saw Red Tornado and quickly realized that he was creating the wind, he growled when he saw the team lying on the ground.
Before Batman could stop him he ran into the room, despite the pain, and shot at the android with ecto-blasts. Two more androids made themselves known and attacked him, Spirit created a shield around himself. Spirit forced the power he used to make the shield outward and it pushed the androids back.
By then the other heroes had gone through the zeta tubes but Spirit hadn't noticed, he was busy fighting off the androids. Spirit shot at them again but there were too many for him to hit by blasting them, he was getting pissed off now. Spirit created jagged pieces of ice using his powers and sent them at the robots, a few of them hit but they managed to dodge most of them.
The androids seemed to decide to retreat because they ran away, Spirit would have gone after them but he was too exhausted. Batman ran up to him to make sure he was okay and Spirit waved him off, it was difficult to breath but he would live. Batman looked a bit relieved before he looked at the other heroes, "Don't tell anyone about what you just saw."
Superman looked confused, "Why?"
"There's a reason no one knew about Spirit until he joined the team."
Black Canary was about to speak but Spirit cut her off, "Oh for fuck sake, will someone make sure the others are okay?" The heroes went to make sure the team was okay, as soon as Robin started waking up Batman walked over to him. Spirit opted to stay were he was until it got easier to breath, he felt like he was slowly dying.
When Robin saw Spirit he walked over to him, Batman followed, Robin gave Spirit a concerned look. "Are you okay?"
Spirit nodded, "I'll live." Spirit tried to stand and Robin helped him, the hero ended up supporting him and he still looked worried.
Robin spoke, "You don't look too good."
"I'm just exhausted, I'm still not completely healed." The rest of the team started to wake up and their respective mentors went to make sure they were okay. Of course Superman checked on Artemis because he was still avoiding Superboy but that was to be expected at this point.
The rest of the team didn't seem to realize that Spirit was there since they were talking to their mentors. Spirit mentally sighed, it was obvious that something happened but he wasn't sure what exactly. When Artemis woke up Superman spoke, "What happened here?"
Artemis looked pissed, "What happened? The Reds happened, Tornado and his-wait, where are they?"
Robin looked at her, "Gone, all three of them, gone."
It was then that the team saw Spirit and they looked shocked and concerned, he looked like he was going to pass out. Kid Flash spoke, "Wait, I thought Spirit was still hurt."
Spirit mentally sighed, "I'll be fine."
Robin spoke, "I think we have very different definitions of 'fine.'"
Spirit rolled his eyes and Batman shook his head a little, no matter how hurt Spirit was he'd never admit it but Robin always called him out on his bullshit. Hours later the League was helping repair what was damaged in the mountain and the team was sitting at a picnic table near the zeta tubes. Why there was a picnic table at all Spirit didn't know but he didn't care enough to ask at the moment.
Green Arrow set a bowl of pretzels on the table and Kid Flash spoke, "Thanks but no thanks."
Robin spoke, "Yeah, what we want are answers, about Red Tornado and his siblings."
Kid Flash spoke again, "Exactly!" Green Arrow was about to take the bowl of pretzels but Kid Flash took it from him, "Leave the bowl." The speedster then began eating the pretzels and Spirit just mentally sighed, he was resting his head on his arms that were currently on the table. He was exhausted and didn't want to deal with anything at the moment, Batman even got him a blanket to try and make him more comfortable.
Spirit then heard Aqualad talking to Batman, he didn't pick up all of the words because he was a little out of it. Though he did hear that Aqualad found out there might be a mole on the team and that it seemed like it was Red Tornado. Superboy suddenly shouted, "You knew?!"
Superboy grabbed the front of Aqualad's shirt and glared at him, "That android and his maniac family nearly killed Megan."
Miss Martian flew over, "Connor, what are you doing?"
Superboy got even more angry, "Kaldur knew we had a traitor among us and said nothing!"
At that point Robin, Kid Flash, and Artemis started walking over and Robin spoke, "You knew?"
Kid Flash spoke, "And didn't tell us?"
Aqualad spoke, "I sought to protect the team from-."
Artemis cut him off, "Protect us from what, knowledge that might have saved our lives?"
Superboy looked at Miss Martian, "You almost died!"
Spirit spoke, "Would you all shut up?!" All of them looked at him in shock, all of the shouting was hurting his head and it wasn't helping his mood.
Robin sent him an apologetic look before Batman spoke, "With Red Tornado missing the team will now be overseen by rotating supervisors, Captain Marvel has volunteered to take the first shift."
Captain Marvel was smiling, "I'm really looking forward to hanging with you guys."
Spirit could sense magic, he knew who Captain Marvel was, not only as a hero but also his secret identity. Spirit just laid his head back down on the table after pulling the blanket closer around himself. He zoned out for a bit before he managed to come back to his senses, Batman said he was giving the team a mission.
When Spirit tried to look at the picture he brought up his eyes wouldn't focus, he rubbed them a little and he could see better. He was pretty sure the poison was messing with him, poison just made him sick but the bigger the dose the sicker he got. With the poison and everything else that was affecting him he was having a hard time with just about everything.
He heard Robin speak, "Batman please, tell me you're not sending us on this joke of a wild ape chase."
Batman looked slightly angry, "I never joke about the mission." Robin looked away and Batman continued, "I've checked the sources, I've studied the patterns, mayor Hills encounter is only the latest in a series of incidence." Batman looked at Aqualad, "Aqualad, you and your team will depart for India and check this out."
Aqualad spoke, "And what about Spirit?"
"He won't be going, he's still severely injured and needs more time to heal."
Aqualad nodded and the rest of the team walked past him, Kid Flash looked at him, "Your team." The sheer amount of anger and spite in those two words was incredibly obvious, Spirit shook his head in disappointment. He was just hoping that the team would resolve this stupid thing before something bad happened.
Once the team was gone Batman walked up to Spirit, "If you want to stay here I won't stop you but you're condition seems to be getting worse."
Spirit mentally sighed, "I know, with the list of things that are affecting me right now I can barely see let alone do anything else."
Batman looked slightly concerned, "I'll keep an eye on you here, I think it would be best if you at least had an oxygen mask so it's easier to breath."
"At this point I don't have the energy to argue." Batman nodded and helped Spirit stand and walk to the living room, the hero brought him an oxygen mask hooked up to an oxygen tank and had Spirit put it on. He'd have to remember to give Spirit some blood to drink, the blood would help Spirit heal and hopefully make him feel better.
Several more hours later the team came back and Spirit took off the oxygen mask before going to see how things went. The bio-ship landed and Spirit was waiting by the elevator while they all walked out, when he saw a large wolf he decided not to ask questions. Spirit spoke, "So did you all resolve your differences?"
Aqualad nodded, "We reached an understanding."
Robin spoke, "You look like your doing better."
"A little, but it's still going to take some time to completely heal." Robin smiled a little and the team headed down to get to the rest of the mountain, after telling Batman what happened Robin and Spirit headed to the batcave. Alfred wasn't particularly happy about Spirit disappearing but the butler was just glad that Spirit seemed to be okay.
Robin told Spirit what happened on the mission and when he was done he seemed to think of something. "You know, you're the only one that didn't seem angry about Aqualad not telling us about the mole."
Spirit ran a hand through his hair, "I heard him tell Batman that Sportsmaster was the one that told him about the mole. It was pretty clear that Aqualad didn't trust Sportsmaster but if he was telling the truth letting the team know would alert the traitor."
Robin looked slightly confused, "Why does it seem like you have experience with things like this?"
Spirit sighed, "About a month ago I found out someone on the counsel was selling out other vampires to hunters. I didn't want to create any strife on the counsel so I investigated in secret, I figured out who the traitor was and told Alistar what I found. I also gave him the evidence I had and the matter was dealt with quickly and quietly."
"I could understand why Aqualad didn't tell the team because I made that same decision, hell, I've done it more then once. When you're responsible for the lives of others you have to make difficult decisions, sometimes keeping secrets is necessary. I'm the ruler of the ghost zone, I have to do things like that all the time to protect my people, being an heir to the vampire throne also has a lot of responsibility."
Robin frowned a little before he hugged Spirit, "I'm sorry, sometimes I forget how hard it must be for you."
Spirit hugged Robin back, "It's not your fault, besides, I've been able to handle it so far."
Robin kissed Spirit before looking him in the eye, "It doesn't mean you're not under a lot of stress. Being a king, an heir, and part of a team can't be easy and we don't always make it easy for you either."
Spirit shrugged, "The team doesn't know so they can't really be blamed for it, at least it's easier then it was at first."
Robin mentally sighed before laying down and pulling Spirit with him, they were both in Robin's room, it was one of the few places they could easily talk in private. Robin pulled Spirit closer, "You should get some rest, you're still healing."
Spirit laughed a little, "You worry too much." Spirit kissed Robin's cheek and closed his eyes before falling asleep, Robin fell asleep not long after.
