17 | plot twist, bitch
"Abhiiiiiiiiiiiiii" Akshara yelled in her sleeping husband's ear.
"Manyuuuuuuu" she continued, not receiving a response from him.
"Uthooooo naaaa" (Get up!) she whined and Abhimanyu hummed in his sleep.
"Come on Abhi, get up" Akshara insisted, tapping him a little too much on his shoulder.
"Five minutes" he groggily grumbled in his sleep, burying his face in his pillow.
"Biwi ko kiss karne ki baje, apne takiye ko kiss kar rahe hai the great, Dr. Abhimanyu Birla" (Instead of kissing his wife, the great Dr. Abhimanyu Birla is kissing his pillow) she complained, getting away and Abhimanyu instantly got up.
He held Akshara's arm, slightly pulling herself towards him and asked,
"Brush nahi kiya hai. Chalega na?" (I haven't brushed. That's fine, right?) he asked, a mischievous grin on his face and Akshara rolled her eyes.
"Nahi chalega" (No, it isn't fine) she replied and got up, freeing herself from his grip.
"Give me two minutes babe" he said, giving her a flying kiss and Akshara chuckled.
"I have to go Abhi, I'm getting late. Bye" she teased him and heard a loud groan from the bathroom. Akshara laughed at this.
In exactly two minutes, Abhimanyu came out of the bathroom and stood in front of Akshara, pouting. Smiling, she pecked his pout.
"Abb hui na good morning" (Now that's a good morning) he murmured, wrapping his arms around Akshara, who left a sigh from her lips as she instantly relaxed under his touch. The last few days had genuinely been emotionally exhausting for the couple.
"Abhi, can we just live in this moment forever?" Akshara asked in a soft voice.
"As much as I'd love to, we can't, jaan" he replied.
"Why don't you bunch of smart scientists find a way to freeze time?" She decided to joke, not wanting Abhimanyu to get a hint of her inner turmoil. Abhimanyu chuckled.
"I wish I could" he whispered, gulping down a few tears as he recalled the events of the previous night.
"Akshu...I want to tell you something" Abhimanyu confessed, knowing very well he's going to regret it.
"Bolo no Abhi, it's me" (Say it, Abhi. It's me) Akshara replied, her heart beating loudly.
"I uh uh, I..I think, I think, we we should just go on a vacation" Abhimanyu panicked and rambled, leaving his wife confused.
It was around 11:30 at night. Abhimanyu had been feeling restless the entire day after his and Neil's ride to the hospital. As he was on a break, he made way to Neil's cabin.
He knocked the glass door, which was decorated with a board of his younger brother's name.
'Dr. Neil Birla
Oncologist'
"Come in" he heard Neil's voice.
"Neil, I wanted to talk to you. Are you free right now or should I come afterwards?" Abhimanyu asked, hesitantly as he saw a different expression on Neil's face.
"Uhm actually, yeah, we'll talk later, I have a patient coming in"
"Right now?" Abhi asked and Neil bit his tongue.
"Yeah, yeah. He's in IT. They have crazy work timings" Neil replied, flabbergasted.
"Oh" Abhi muttered, sad that his brother was hiding something.
"He isn't coming in, like physically. We're talking on video call" Neil added and Abhimanyu nodded as he connected his ear-pods.
"Okay. I'll see you later" Abhimanyu said as he exited the cabin and Neil didn't reply. Abhimanyu started walking towards the canteen when he got a call.
"Dr. Manoj?"
"Hello, Dr. Manoj!" Abhimanyu greeted him.
"Hello, Dr. Abhimamyu, how are you doing?"
"I am fine. How are you?"
"Good, good" the doctor replied.
"I have actually called you regarding Dr.Birla, I mean, Dr. Neil Birla" Dr. Manoj, clarified before Abhi could ask.
"Oh"
"Since he's interviewing for the head of the Oncology department in our hospital, I thought of talking to you"
Our hospital? As in Mehendale Hospital? But that's in Mumbai...
Abhimanyu's felt his palpitations and his mind felt blank for a moment.
"He has given other doctors as references, but since I know you, I deciding talking to you."
"Oh well, even though he is my brother, I will share my opinion regarding him as a Doctor and without a bias"
"I know you will. Please send me a gmail so I could send it to my boss" he requested. The doctors talked for a bit before hanging up.
"Abhi, everything's alright?" Akshara finally asked, and Abhimanyu snapped out of his thoughts.
"Yeah yeah, I just wanted some us time" he said and even though Akshara didn't believe it, she decided to give him space. He'll talk to me after some time, I am sure.
"Well then I'll get going" she replied, breaking away from the hug and Abhimanyu forced a smile.
"Have a great day, darling" he wished and she smiled.
"You too"

"So, we didn't get a chance to talk yesterday" Neil initiated the conversation.
"Yeah" Arohi muttered, knowing they couldn't avoid this conversation for long. Neil had given his third and final interview the previous night.
"I got the job" Neil informed Arohi.
"Congratulations, this is amazing!" Arohi replied, unable to convey her actual joy and excitement.
"Doesn't feel like it" Neil remarked and Arohi sighed.
"No no really, it's just"
"It's just what, Arohi?" Neil snapped, and she flinched.
"I just don't understand why you aren't ready to go? You're easily getting a better and higher paying job there" Neil added in a loud voice.
"I don't want to leave Udaipur" she said firmly.
"So do you expect me to give up this job?" He asked and Arohi looked down, not knowing what to say.
"We'll keep visiting Udaipur, Chipkali" Neil insisted.
"No, Neil. I can't. I simply can't leave my life here" she replied.
"Alright."
"I am sorry, Neil. But I think that it's for the best that we live here" Arohi said, holding him closer to her.
"But I don't feel the same, Arohi" he said, tugging a strand of her hair behind her ear, flashing a sad smile.
"But why?" She whispered.
"You're never going to be my son, never!" the words rang in his ears.
"Because I hate this place" he said.
"But our family's here!" Arohi argued, the corner of her mind going back to a day from about a year ago.
"But Neil, what's the problem? There are so many opportunities outside Udaipur!"
"Our family's here, Arohi."
"Didn't you want to shift outside Udaipur after a year of our marriage? What changed your mind now?"
"Neil, I am about to get a promotion at the hospital, plus, don't you think that things have been going so well with our families?" Arohi replied.
No Chipkali. I don't think that things have been going so well with our families.
"I am not asking you to abandon family, Arohi. All I'm saying is that we'll live in Mumbai from Monday to Friday, and we'll be here at Udaipur on the weekends. Also, about your promotion- you can get a better job at the Mehendale Hospital, you know? Just say yes and I'll help set up the interview for you, they have a vacancy for a job with a higher position and pay" Neil said.
"I don't think that I should leave Udaipur. It's not a good time" Arohi said, unconvinced.
"Yeah, and I am not giving up on this job" Neil said, and Arohi looked at him in shock.
"What do you mean?" She asked.
"I think, I am going to go and live in Mumbai, Monday to Friday, and in Udaipur for the weekends" Neil said, and Arohi looked at her husband in shock.
Life really said, "plot twist, bitch!", didn't it?
There was some kind of glitch, that's why I had unpublished this story. Well, it's back now (:
How are you liking this story?
Also, if I have to be honest, slow updates from now on. Have disassociated a bit from the story considering how the makers ruined all the characters and their relationships.
