Seven Years Later

It has been seven years since Y/N left his old family. In that time, he trained to control his semblance and use it to its full potential, he died his hair H/C and found a way to change his eye color from green to E/C, abandoning every trait of the Nikos line. It still hurts him today, but Y/N is done with focussing on the past. The young man has done his best to get accepted into Beacon after...well, it wasn't normal for him. You see, Y/N didn't go to Vale on his own two feet. No no no, he actually was sealed away in a metal container. And around him was a dark liquid which manifested to a solid kind of crystaline substance, restraining the boy from moving or even attempting to break free from his prison.

Right now, he sits in the headmaster's office, looking around with a death glare. Y/N doesn't feel comfortable in this place, yet there is no sense of danger for the time being. His outfit has changed too, making him look more professional and that brings him a bit of joy. Not that Y/N would show it on the outside. A mment later the elevator arrives and the doors open to reveal the man behind the mystery: Ozpin. He holds his cane in one hand and his coffee mug in the other, walking towards the big desk between him and Y/N. Ozpin himself observes the boy shortly before sitting down and opening a file of the soon-to-be student.

Ozpin:" So...your name is...Y/N Nikos. Is that right?"

Suddenly a piece of paper lands in front of him, signaling that Y/N has no intension to use his voice at all.

Y/N(note):" Do not ever use this last name again! I abandoned that family and that life for a good reason. I'm known as Y/N L/N now and I want to be adressed with that name. Otherwise anyone who dare brings up my family will be in trouble. Do you understand?"

Ozpin:" I see...Say Y/N, do you know why you were in this container?"

Y/N just shakes his head no and continues to look away from the man in front of him. His eyes give off a lot of pain and anger towards anyone who even tries to break through his shell at this point in his life.

Ozpin:" You are 19 years old now. I see that you didn't go to an actual huntsman academy before, but recordings of your adventures tell me you possess the skill to be here...Tell me: what is it that you seek?"

Y/N(paper):" I am looking for my true self, knowing I could be something my parents never believed me to be. I always wanted to be a huntsman to prove people wrong. They cast me out, called me a loser, pushed me around and made me the scapegoat for whatever was happening. I was close to showing these bullies their place when it all went even further down.......When my parents threw me into the basement and beat me. They forgot my birthday, they barely gave me food or water, I didn't sleep at all for a long time...When I ran, I was barely able to save myself until I used my semblance..."

Ozpin:" Your semblance seems rather...unique so to speak. What exactly does it do?"

Y/N(paper):" The semblance is called 'Deceiver' and it gives me the ability to lock enemies in an alternate reality where everything around them rots and falls apart. When activated, my looks change and I behave almost like....a criminal you would say. A sadistic smile creeps its way on my face while my body emmits a dark fog. This causes fear to break out in whoever it is I locked in with me."

Ozpin:" Intriguing. Another aspect in the file says you worked for the police for the last three years. Care to elaborate?"

Y/N sighs wihout a sound and gets up, taking his wallet ou if his pocket. He takes out another piece of paper, unfolds it and looks briefly over it before giving it to the gray-haired headmaster.

Ozpin:" Detective L/N

Observation success rate: 95%

Years active: Three

Cause for being expelled: causing mentail traumas for other suspects

Y/N L/N is still respected around the police department. He has been a big help for us, although hard to handle from time to time. The whole tean wishes him the best of luck for his future life, hoping to see him around again some day.

....Why are you showing me this?"

Then Y/N motions for Ozpin to turn the sheet of paper around to read what's on it. Y/N is already pacing around the room, knowing that his semblance is dangerous when used too much on other people. It caused trouble in the past, so he refuses to activate it, unless it's necessary.

Ozpin:" You worked there to make this world a better place, yet people feared you for what you did to these criminals. They dubbed you a monster because of the things you told them. Yet here you are, not speaking a single word with me...I have to say: you interest me, young Y/N. Now again: why were you in that container?"

Y/N(paper):" I was caught by a team of researchers. They probably have seen me wander around and decided to catch me for their own experiments. But I never arrived at their facility...Someone hijacked the bullhead I was in a let me drop near Vale without breaking my prison. Then when i broke that crystaline stuff, I stumbled into the nearest alley, not caring what was happening around me. I gathered whatever clothes I could find and made it my goal to survive for a while, stealing food, fighting any muggers I came across. Sometimes I even saved people, whether human or Faunus, and they wanted to thank me, but I turned them down, not wanting anyone to pity me....I still feel the effects of the experiments sometimes."

Ozpin:" I see...What would you say if I offered you a place here in Beacon? You'd have a roof above your head, you'd have your own room, a place to sleep and much more."

Y/N(paper):" On a few conditions. First: I wanna be able to use my semblance on whoever I wish, no matter the effect. Two: I wanna work alone if there are any group projects. and Three: since I know Pyrrah will be here, I want you to keep my identity a secret. I've faced too many people who knew who I am, just by looking at me."

Ozpin:" I can fullfil the first two conditions without any problems, but why would you hide yourself from your sister? She was the only one who cared for you."

Y/N(paper):" She never knew that I existed! My so-called 'parents' never told her about me, so I doubt she would've given up her research. I bet she found pictures of me and asked about those. My parents barely give in, but Pyrrah was always their little princess, being on top of the game. She was the better, stronger, more popular me. She even won the regional tournament four times in a row for god's damned sake!!!"

Ozpin:" So you fear she will recognize you, just by getting a good look at you? How do you think she would manage that?"

Y/N is running his hands through his hair. He has some trouble holding himself together at the moment, knowing some things will go wrong sooner or later. It already causes a headache for him, forcing a few tears to drop from his eyes. Ozpin begins to worry about his possibly new student, walking over Y/N who now sits on the floor, holding his head in pain.

Ozpin:" Y/N, are you alright? Do you want to go to your room?"

The boy just nods without hesitation as Ozpin helps him up and towards the elevator. It scares the headmaster to even imagine what the former Nikos went through before coming to Beacon. He knows the family all too well, even personally. While the elevator rides down to the ground level of the academy, Y/N stays silent and turns his head away from his new found supporter. He doesn't wanna show weakness to others, always panicking when his masquerade falls. The shell he built around himself is his personal safe zone, giving nobody any time to persuade him for anything. When the doors open again, he walks out with ozpin and heads towards the dorm section of the building. on their way they pass a few students who are already waiting for the start of the new semester, earning a few confused glances while others start to chat about it. The old wizard isn't affected by that, but Y/N seems to shake a bit, leaning against the wall for support.

It doesn't take long for them to find the correct room. Ozpin unlocks the door immediately and opens it, letting Y/N walk inside. The room itself is decorated with just a single bed, a chair, a desk, a wardrobe and a nightstand. Another door leads towards a decently sized bathroom with a shower in it and other necessaties. A very small smile forms on the boys' face as he continues to look around and make himself familiar with the environment. Just then he spots a small package on the bed, adressed to him.

Ozpin:" In there is a scroll for you to use. Your alarm is set already, only if you shou---"

Y/n finally opens his mouth for once, taking a deeper breath and letting words ring through the room. His voice sounds scratchy and deep, but also monotone. It frightens Ozpin for a moment.

Y/N:" I accept your offer."

Ozpin:" Very well. I shall inform your professors that you'll be a student here as well."

Y/N:" And don't...mention my former last name."

Ozpin:" I won't. I promise."

So Ozpin leaves Y/N alone and he closes his mouth again immediately. His chest rises and falls rapidly as he sits down on his bed. He feels the hate rise up, tearing on his insides to break free. But the E/C eyed boy fights back and can suppress it for now, trying to calm himself down. the few things he has with him are already put away neatly and there doesn't seem to be a uniform for him, since Ozpin got a letter where Y/Ns' former boss stated that the young man doesn't like to wear such odd clothing. Knowing that it will be a hard time at the academy, he decides to just lay down and relax, forgetting everything that happened today.

Between this and the next morning Ozpin has met with another kid who seems to have potential to be a huntress. The young girl,with black hair and reddish tips, wearing a black and red combat skirt was sitting in an interrogation room, waiting for the man himself to come see her. The first thing Ozpin noticed about the girl was that she has silver eyes, making the situation a little akward.

Ozpin:" Ruby Rose. You have...silver eyes."

Ruby:" Uh huh..."

Afterwards a video of Ruby, fighting some thugs on the streets of Vale, was shown.

Ozpin:" Where did you learn to do this?"

Ruby:" Uh, Signal academy?"

Ozpin:" They taught you to fight with one of the deadliest weapons ever designed?"

Ruby:" One teacher in particular."

Ozpin:" I see."

Then, within seconds, the young girl was devouring cookies in an instant while Ozpin thought about something.

Ozpin:" I only know one other scythe wielder with such skill. A dusty old crow."

Ruby(with her mouth full):" Tatf muh uncwe!"

Of course this moment was slightly emberrassing for her, but after she got the amount of food down, she apologized and stated that her uncle trained her and how she developed because of him. Then Ozpin said something Ruby could never say No to.

Ozpin:" You want to join my school?"

Ruby:" More than anything."

And he allowed it, although his partner wasn't too keen to hear about it.

The following morning is the morning where bullheads, full of students arrive at the landing platform. On it are some special individuals, like two very special siblings. One is a short girl with black hair and reddish tips, wearing a black and red combat skirt, while her eyes sparkle silver, revealing herself as Ruby Rose. The other is definately taller, has a bit more annunciated skin. She sports long, wavy blond hair and lilac eyes. Both of them are currently caught in a bone-crushing hug.

???1:" Oooohh, I can't believe my baby sister is going to Beacon with me."

Ruby:" Please stop..."

???1:" What's with you? Aren't you excited?"

Ruby:" Of course I'm excited. It's just...I got moved ahead two years. I don't want people to think I'm anything special."

???1:" But you are special. Everyone's gonna think you are the bee's knees."

Ruby:"I don't wanna be the bee's knees. I don't wanna be any knees. I just wanna be a normal girl with normal knees."

Suddenly another voice cuts in as a holographic TV shows the graphic of notorious criminal Roman Torchwick. It's reported that he led the latest dust robery and civilians are encouraged to notify the police if they know about his current location. After that, it cuts to a report where a Faunus demonstration was interrupted by the White Fang. Soon after the hologram of a blond woman with green eyes and a stern look on her face is portayed, talking to the people on board of the bullhead.

???3:"Hello and welcome to Beaon."

???1:" Who's that?"

Glynda:" My name is Glynda Goodwitch. You are among a privileged few who have received the honor of being selectedto attend this prestigious academy. Our world is experiencing an incredible time of peace, and as future huntmen and huntresses, it is your duty to uphold it. You have demonstrated the courage needed for such a task, and now it is our turn to provide you with the knowledge and the training to protect our world."

When the hologram vanshes, the shorter girl runs towards the windows, looking all over the city as good as she can, admiring the view from up in the air. 

Ruby:" Look, you can see Signal from up here. Looks like home isn't too far after all."

???1:" Beacon's our home now."

With another blond running past the two, the nice moment is destroyed. Still the two girls are laughing a bit.

???1:" I guess the view isn't for everyone."

Ruby:" It was fun while it lasted."

???1:" I wonder who we're gonna meet."

Ruby:" I hope they're better than 'vomit boy'...Oh Yang, gross. You have puke on your shoe."

Yang:" Gross, gross, gross, gross, gross, gross, gross."

After a while, the bullheads land and open their doors to let the students out. The blond boy from before already got acquainted with the nearest trash can while Yang and her sister are standing in the courtyard, taking in the view. The whole building looks a lot different from what the two have seen.

Yang:" The view of Vale's got nothing on this."

So while the more developed of the two fawns over the building, the shorter one is going nuts all over the weapons she sees around her. Every single one of them fascinates her more and more, making her more and more eager to wanna know about them.

Yang:" Easy there, little sister. They're just weapons."

Ruby:" Just weapons? They're an extension of ourselves! They're a part of us! They're so cool!"

Yang:" Well, why can't you swoon over your own weapon? Aren't you happy with it?"

Ruby:" Of course I'm happy with Crescent Rose. I just really like seeing new ones. It's like meeting new people. But better." 

Yang:" Ruby, come on. Why don't you go and try to make some friends of your own?"

Ruby:" But why would I need friends when I have you?"

Suddenly a group of other people stand behind Yang.

Yang:" Well, my friends are here now. Gotta catch up, c'ya, bye."

And so Ruby is left dizzy from the spinning as she falls and crashes into someone else's luggage. This of course angered the other person, revealing herself to be another girl with white hair, icy blue eyes and a blue-whiteish combat skirt. 

???:" What are you doing?!"

Ruby:" Uh...sorry."

???:" Sorry?! Do you have any idea of the damage you could've caused? This is dust, mined and purified from the Schnee Quarry."

The two continue to argue while the white haired girl shakes some viles around and letting some dust particles fly through the air, causing Ruby to sneeze and making both of them explode. This of course calls for attention from everyone around, creating a small crowd around them while another girl steps in. This one has black hair and amber eyes while wearing a bow on her head.

???:" Weiss Schnee, heiress to the Schnee Dust Company. One of the largest producers of energy propellant in the world."

Weiss:" Finally. Some recognition."

Y/N:" And before this goes south again,I suggest all of you break up this little chat you have."

When the three look towards the direction of where the voice is coming from, they see Y/N. Of course they don't know him, but it's quite a surprise for them to see anyone step in.

Y/N:" Now, Miss Schnee. I would suggest you gather your luggsge and bring it to its designated area. I'm sure the two ladies didn't plan to disturb you."

Weiss:" Do you at least have a hunch of who you're talking to?"

Y/N:" Weiss Schnee, one of the kids of Willow and Jacque Schnee. You're the one who is supposed to take over the leadership of the company once your father retires. I wish not to get on your bad side, seeing as it is the first day for most of us."

Weiss:" Thank you. I will carry on now. Have a good day."

So Weiss is already making her way to the auditorium while Y/N helps up Ruby and looks at the black haired girl.

Y/N:" I advise you two to go to the auditorium as well. you don't wanna miss anything."

???:" Agreed. Have a nice day."

Ruby:" How do you do that? How did you stop this Schnee girl to be so...feisty?"

Y/N:" I'm showing respect to her while also making my dominance present. It wouldn't do us any good if we were on bad blood the moment we meet other people...Trust me, I've been through that."

Ruby:" What's your name?"

Y/N:" I'm Y/N L/N if you can remember that later on...Now go to the place I told you to before anything else happens."

Before she can say anything else, Y/N and the other girl already walk off and leave her back where she was before all this.

Only a few minutes later, everyone gathers in the auditorium to listen in on Ozpin. It was said he'd give a speech to them soon and so they wait. Y/N has chosen to stand away from everyone, making sure he has a way to leave, if he sees Pyrrah again. Soon enough Ruby and her new friend, Jaune Arc, enter the hall as Ruby spots her sister and immediatly walks over to her, leaving Jaune to himself. The short girl is already back in a bad mood as she tries to explain herself to Yang who tries to make fun of her. It goes on and on and on until Weiss appears again.

Weiss:" YOU!"

Ruby:" Oh god, it's happening again!"

Weiss:" You're lucky we weren't blown off the side of the cliff!"

Yang:" Oh my gosh, you really exploded."

Ruby:" It was an accident. It was an accident!"

Yang:" Look, it seems like you two got off on the wrong foot. Why don't you start over and try to be friends, okay?"

Ruby:" Great idea, sis. Hello, Weiss. I'm Ruby. Want to hang out? We could go shopping for school supplies."

Weiss:" Yeah and we can paint our nails, try on clothes and talk about cute boys like tall blond and scraggly over there...or even taller, H/C and buff like the one who needed to save you."

Y/N:" I heard myself being described at the end of that?"

Weiss:" Ah!...Oh uh, hello again. I didn't think you heard me."

Ruby:" Hi Y/N. Why are you over here all of a sudden?"

Y/N:" Am I not allowed to?"

Yang:" Well, you can stay with me anytime~"

Y/N:" You're barking up the wrong tree at the moment, lady. I would say you take the flirting a step back for now because this is serious business. Because right now, we should listen to the man on stage."

Y/n's presence is scary cold if needed and so the girls step back a few inches, giving the giant a considerable amount of space while he looks at Ozpin. The headmaster steps forward to the mic and clears his throat, making everyone focuss on him.

Ozpin:" I'll...keep this brief. You have travelled here today in search of knowledge. To hone your craft and acquire new skills. And when you have finished, you plan to dedicate your life to the protection of the people. But I look amongst you and all I see is wasted energy in need of purpose, direction. You assume knowledge will free you from this but your time at this school will prove that knowledge can only carry you so far. It is up to you to take the first step."

Glynda:" You will gather in the ballroom tonight. Tomorrow your initiation begins. Be ready. You are dismissed."

And so everyone goes their own way, except Y/N who gets called over by Glynda to follow her and Ozpin towards their office again. The rest just talks about how Ozpin presented himself just a moment ago while making their way around, trying to remember the layout of the school.

Y/N(scroll):" What do you need me for?"

Ozpin:" I know what you can do in battle, Mr L/N. Therefore you don't participate in the initiation itself. You will only intervene if the situation calls for it. I need your keen eye to evaluate the students one by one and when they found a partner."

Y/N(scroll):" Easy enough. What exactly is my task when it's over?"

Ozpin:" Simple. You will support any team in need of another member. I will tell you which team it will be when the time comes. You are dismissed."

Y/N then nods and bows in respect before walking out, going down through the elevator and towards his own dorm. It doesn't seem too bad so far, but knowing his chances, he will probably have to face his fears sooner rather than later.
