Chapter 3

"Were home!" Thomas shouted.

"Thomas, Jak is that you?" A voice from up the stairs shouted.

"Yeah, Dad, it's us!" Thomas shouted back. Soon two figures started descending the stairs. One with thick black hair and dark-rimmed glasses. He was wearing a black button-down shirt with a blue tie. He looked very neat. He walked with his hands behind his back and his chin up. The other, however, looked very different. He had light brown hair and wore a white tunic with a red sash across the front.

"Hey, buddy," the second figure said as he approached. He hugged Thomas and lifted him in the air. He then walked over to Jak and ruffled his already messy black hair and squeezed him tight. Patton just watched thinking only of Emily.

The first figure simply said, "Salutations, Thomas and Jak." Then his eyes found Patton and settled on him. He tapped the first figure on the shoulder and pointed.

"Who might you be?" the sash-wearing person asked.

"P-Patton," Patton said quietly looking at the ground.

"Uh-huh," The glasses-wearing figure said.

"Thomas, Jak, how many times do I have to tell you, no strays. I assume this was Thomas's idea." The sash-wearing figure said.

"N-No," Patton sputtered. Both figures looked up at him. "It was completely my fault. I'm sorry."

"No," Thomas said walking over and placing a hand on Patton's knee. "I let you take us home." Then he turned to the other two people. "Plus he was sad, and we wanted to make sure he was okay!" The sash-wearing figure chuckled and the other just raised an eyebrow.

A knock at the door startled them. The door slowly opened and a third figure with a dark black shirt with a jacket long-sleeved jacket over it appeared. He had his hood up and when he got in the door closed behind him. He flipped down his hood and walked over to the other two figures in the room.

"Hey, guys," this third figure said. He then slipped his hand into the glasses-wearing figure's hand.

"Salutations Virgil," the glasses-wearing figure said to him. Then he used his hand to cover his mouth. The boy next to him raised an eyebrow and the glasses-wearing figure whispered something in his ear. The third boy named Virgil immediately looked at Patton.

"Uh okay...Listen, guys, they blew up some person's house today and-" He got cut off by the glasses-wearing person clearing his throat. "Oh yeah sorry. Who is this?" Virgil asked nodding towards Patton.

"His name is Patton, he walked Thomas and Jak home and now he is here," The glasses-wearing boy said to him.

"Well that really sums things up," Virgil said rolling his eyes.

"Precisely my intentions," the glasses-wearing boy said smiling and pulling Virgil close.

"Okay," the sash-wearing person interrupted. "What are we going to do with him?"

"Well get rid of him of course," the glasses-wearing man said like it was the most obvious thing in the world.

"Wait a minute," the sash-wearing person said. "We can't just get rid of him."

"Why not?" the glasses-wearing person walked over to the sash-wearing person. "The chances of our entire cause surviving are way higher if we would just get rid of him."

"Well, you should know that our cause is to help people not just get rid of them!"

"Then you should know that we can't just trust people. He could be working for Dee for all we know."

Patton flinched at this and pulled his sleeve down to conceal the scar wrapping around his wrist like a bracelet. To conceal this action he pulled down the other sleeve as well. Then he absently reached into his pocket to feel the box. The glasses-wearing man seemed to notice this but just shrugged it off.

Patton looked at the ground and noticed something dripping on the floor from Virgil's sleeve.

"U-uh excuse m-me, a-are you okay?" Patton asked concern creeping into his voice. The other two figures looked at Virgil then to his sleeve hen to the drops of blood on the floor. The glasses-wearing figure's eyes widened as he rushed to grab Virgil's arm.

"What happened?" he asked pulling Virgil's sleeve up to reveal a gash running up his forearm. The sash-wearing figure and Thomas walked over as well.

"Lo...It's okay," Virgil said to the glasses-wearing man in a soft tone. "Promise you won't get mad and go crazy okay?"

"What? I don't go crazy. I just care about you that's all. And I think that whoever did this should be...less than alive." He paused. "Oh, yes I see. I promise."

"I uh ran into one of the guards," Virgil said, slowly.

"You ran into one of the guards...and they did this?" the sash-wearing man asked.

"Like I bumped into them," Virgil told them.

"Unacceptable." the glasses-wearing man said. Then he turned to the sash-wearing figure. "I am going to get this bandaged up. I trust that you will take care of him."

"Yes, yes. Take Thomas and Jak with you," The sash-wearing man told him.

"Alright then," the glasses-wearing man replied to him. "Come on now Thomas, Jak."

Thomas walked back over to Patton and gave him a big squeeze around the leg. Then looking up at him said, "Nice to meet you Mr. Patton sir." Patton reached down at pat Thomas on the head.

Jak walked over and squeezed Patton's leg. "It was nice to meet you," He said quietly.

"Nice to meet you too kiddos," Patton replied. Thomas and Jak walked off with the glasses-wearing man.

Patton kept looking out the ground. The sash-wearing man walked over to him and lifted Patton's chin.

"Cute," the sash-wearing man said. Then he and Patton both blushed and the sash-wearing man said, "I uh I mean, that was your house, wasn't it?"

"No, I don't know what you're talking about," Patton said.

"Don't lie," the sash-wearing man said. "I can see it in your eyes."

Patton nodded and said, "Yeah, i-it was my house."

"I knew it. So you can't leave. You have nowhere to go."

"But, what about that other guy, won't he be mad," Patton said scared.

"Oh, Logan. Pfft, he'll get over it." the sash-wearing man said stepping closer. "Plus, Thomas and Jak would never forgive me if I made you leave."

"O-Oh okay..." Patton replied looking at his hands then he rubbed at his wrist. This was a bad idea.

The sash-wearing man put out his hand. "My name is Roman Valor. Welcome to the rebel alliance."
