Chapter 19
"And you'll tell me where the base is?" Dee asked.
"Yes," the voice said to him. Dee had a spy at the rebel base. He no longer needed Patton to tell him where the base was. His spy would.
"Good, then it looks like we have a deal," Dee said smiling darkly.
"But..." the voice said. "You'll let him go right?"
"Yes...of course, love," Dee replied. "The second I get to the base is the second Patton gets to go free."
"Good, then we'll be in touch."
"I'll be seeing you very soon," Dee said. "Emile."

"Pat?" Remus said. "If you have those abilities, why don't you use them to get us out?"
"One of Dee's abilities is to cancel out others abilities. I've tried," Patton replied looking down at his bruised arms. The cut on his shoulder was better. He traced the scar with his finger. He needed to get out of here. He was going to get out of here.
No matter how long it took.
"You probably figured it out by now, love," a voice said pulling Patton from his thoughts. Dee. "But I don't need you anymore."
Patton looked up at Dee. Dee smiled darkly.
"I have a spy in your ranks," Dee said. "So I don't need you to tell me. He already has."
Patton tried to stand. He stumbled and fell to the ground. He grabbed the bars of his cell for support.
"Who?" Patton said. "Who is it?"
"Oh yes, of course, how could I forget?" Dee said in mock sympathy. "Bring him in."
The guards brought a person. Patton looked at him and bit his lip. He shook his head. No! No! I don't believe it!
"Emile?" Patton said. "No..."
Emile's eyes widened as he struggled against the guard's grip. "You promised! You promised you'd let him go!" Emile said.
"You sold them out?" Remus yelled. "We saved you and you sold them out!"
"Y-You're alive..." Emile said staring at Remus.
"Sadly for you, yes," Remus said.
Patton didn't say anything.
He shook his head. Then he spoke. "Please don't hurt Emile."
"Well, now you have a choice, love," Dee said. "You have to pick. It's either. I let you go or I don't hurt Emile."
Emile's eyes widened. "You liar! You promised to let him go! Please. You promised." He struggled against the guards. He got one arm free and reached out for Patton's cell.
"Let him go. Let him see his cousin," Dee said waving off the guards. They let Emile go and he ran to Patton's cell sticking his hands through the bars, reaching out to Patton. Patton sighed. He took Emile's hand.
"Patton please," Emile said.
Patton bit his lip. "I'll be fine," he said pushing Emile away. He looked at Dee and said, "Don't hurt Emile."
Dee smiled. "Good choice." Then he turned to Emile. He spoke. "Go back to the base and wait. Don't tell anyone about what happened."
"But...you promised," Emile said. The guards grabbed him again. "You said that if I told you...then...then you would let him go. Please...let him go...you promised."
The started to take Emile away. Emile couldn't believe this. Why had he trusted Dee? He just wanted to get his cousin back. Now his friends were in danger and Patton was no closer to being free than he was before.
Emile bit his lip and thought My friends are going to perish. Patton is going to be locked up forever. The alliance is going to be destroyed...
And it's all my fault...

The day that it happened no one was expecting it. Roman heard the explosion. He rushed out of the meeting room and over to Virgil and Logan who were standing by the staircase.
"What happened?" Roman asked running down the stairs.
"I'm not quite sure," Logan answered following him with Virgil close behind.
"Logan go grab the team, Virgil go get Thomas, Jak, and Emily," Roman said running over to the closet where he kept his sword. He pulled it out and placed it in its sheath. Soon Virgil came running back down the stairs holding Emily. Jak and Thomas running behind him.
"Dad? What's going on?" Thomas said. Roman shook his head. Another explosion. Fire sprang out from the upstairs and it curled around the roof.
"No time to explain. Get them out," Roman said. He ran towards the door, for a banging sound had started.
"Go!" Roman shouted and Virgil ran with the kids towards the back door.
Logan descended the stairs with the rest of the group. But one was missing.
"Roman. I regret to inform you. I can't find Emile," Logan said ushering the others towards the back door.
"He went out. I hope he's okay," Roman said. He reinforced the door with large metal rods so that it would stay closed and give the guards something to focus on. The fire was spreading and fast. He realized that Logan was still standing there. "Logan go."
"Virgil?" Logan asked.
"He is outside," Roman said running from the door running towards the back. Logan followed. Roman emerged from the back door.
"Lo?" Virgil asked looking behind Roman.
"He was right behind me," Roman said turning around. Logan was nowhere to be seen.
Virgil put Emily down and walked back to the door.
"Logan?" He asked. His voice became panicked. "Logan?"
Virgil was about to run back into the room when Roman pulled him away from the door.
"Virgil you can't go back in there," Roman said.
"I..." Virgil said. The roof caved in and the fire engulfed the rest of the base. "LO!"
Virgil wanted to run back inside but he couldn't. Roman was still holding him back.
"Logan..." Virgil said over and over. He was angry. He shouldn't have left without him.
"Virgil, we have to go," Roman said. "Come on."
"No. Not without Logan," Roman said.
"Logan's gone..." Talyn said jumping in.
"What do you mean? I'm right here," Logan said. They all turned to look at Logan.
"Lo..." Virgil said. He ran over to Logan and threw his arms around Logan's neck.
"Virgil, I'm fine," Logan said hugging Virgil. "What's going on?"
"I thought you died! You didn't follow Roman out and then the roof collapsed...and I thought...I thought you..." Virgil sputtered. He pushed Logan away from him. "Don't scare me like that!" He yelled. Virgil raked at hand through his hair. He pulled Logan back towards him and hugged around his waist tight, burying his face in Logan's shoulder.
"Vee, I'm fine..." Logan said. He ran his fingers through Virgil's hair to calm him down.
"You were right behind me. What happened?" Roman asked frowning.
"I had to go back upstairs for something," Logan stated blankly. "I got out through a window."
"What could you have possibly needed?" Joan asked throwing their hands up. "You scared us!"
Logan used his free hand to hold up a book.
"A BOOK!" Roman, Joan, and Iris screamed at the same time.
"Not just any book," Logan said blushing a little bit. He whispered something in Virgil's ear and Virgil looked up. Logan showed him a page in the book and Virgil smiled. A flower sat pressed between the pages. The same flower that Virgil gave Logan when he had saved Virgil from the guards. Logan had kept it here in this book.
"What? Why is that book important?" Alex asked.
"That is for Virgil and me to know," Logan said closing the book and placing it in Virgil's hands. "Come now, we have to get to the castle," Logan said starting to walk away.
"Wait a minute!" Roman said. "The guard is attacking our base and you think that the best thing to do right now is to go to the castle?"
"Precisely," Logan said. "The guard is distracted we can sneak into the castle to get Patton and the spy out. When you think about it...it is actually kind of like the distraction that Emile had planned."
"It does...Emile!" Roman shouted. "We need to make sure he is okay!"
"We'll find him," Iris said. "Come on. Let's go."
With that, they started walking. Walking towards their castle. Hoping they would find their friends and save the town.
None of them came back whole. Some of them didn't come back at all...
