Chapter 18
Patton awoke to a hand over his mouth. His eyes flew open and he looked around wildly. Patton's eyes focused on a figure standing in front of him. The figure put a finger to their lips and Patton nodded. The figure removed their hand and helped Patton stand.
"Who are you?" Patton whispered. The figure pulled him out of his cell.
"My name is Ethan," the figure answered. "I'm the spy. Now we have to get out of here before my fath- before Dee finds us."
Patton shook his head. "How do I know you're real?"
"Dee..." Ethan replied. "Dee doesn't know that there is a spy in the ranks. Please just trust me."
Patton looked at him nervously. He sighed. "I trust you, Ethan."
"We have to get out of here!" Ethan said.
"Pat?" Remus said groggily. He had just woken up because of the commotion. "What's going on?"
"This is Ethan. He's the rebel spy. He's getting me out," Patton explained crouching next to Remus. "We have to get you out too."
"There's no time," Ethan urged.
"Just go," Remus said smiling.
"But what about you?" Patton asked sadly.
"What about me?" Remus asked.
"How will you get out?" Patton replied biting his lip.
"I'll use my imagination," Remus replied laughing to himself. "Say hi to Roman for me, yeah?"
Patton nodded and Ethan said, "Come on! We have to go!"
Patton stood and Ethan grabbed his hand pulling him towards the back door. Ethan unlocked the door and pulled Patton outside.
"We made it..." Patton said looking up at the night sky.
"For now...come on," Ethan said pulling him towards the forest.
"Hey! You there! Put your hand where I can see them!" A voice behind them called. Patton and Ethan froze. Ethan put his face close to Patton's ear and whispered,
"Follow my lead." Patton nodded and Ethan grabbed Patton's hands and put them behind his back.
"What are you doing?" the guard from before asked running over to them.
"I caught this one escaping, was bringing him back," Ethan said shoving Patton forward.
"Well, Dee's going to want to hear about this," the guard said.
"No. It's fine. I'll just take him back to his cell," Ethan said.
"Your father will not be pleased with you," the guard said as they started walking towards the castle.
Ethan winced at the mention of Dee. "I know. It will be fine."
"If you say so," the guard said then walked away.
Ethan whispered to Patton, "I'm so sorry, you have to go back. I'll get you out another day. I promise."
Patton nodded. Just as quick as it began the escape was over. Patton was disappointed.
As they walked back to the cell Remus stared.
Patton shook his head and Remus placed his head in his hands.
"ETHAN!" A voice shouted waking all the prisoners up.
Ethan pushed Patton into his cell and locked the door.
He turned around to see Dee standing there.
"Father," he spat.
"How many times do I have to tell you, if you catch a prisoner escaping, bring them to me!" Dee said shoving Ethan towards the exit of the dungeon.
Ethan stood his ground. "I'm not 12 anymore, I don't need you pushing me around."
"You'll always be 12 to me, now go!" Dee said. Ethan didn't move. He shot a sad glance at Patton.
"Go," Dee said softer this time. He hugged Ethan and pushed him out of the door.
Dee turned to Patton.
"That was a mistake, love," Dee said. He turned to the guards and said, "Deal with him."
The guards nodded and Dee started to walk away. He could he Patton's cries before he even left the dungeon.

Ethan stood in his room with his head in his hands. How could I have let this happen? He thought. His father was mad now. Mad at him. He wouldn't do anything to him. Dee loved Ethan. His father loved him. He knew that. Patton...I need to get him out. Maybe Rem wouldn't be mad...
A knock at his door startled him. Ethan breathed out a sigh and walked over to the door. Another breath and he opened it. Standing there was Remy and Dee. He didn't know who else he expected but...he wished it was someone else.
"Are you okay?" his father asked pushing his way into the room.
"I...I'm fine," Ethan replied shooting a pleading look at Remy. Remy entered the room.
"Dee...calm down, he's fine," Remy said lacing his fingers into Dee's.
"Are you sure?" Dee asked looking at Ethan.
"Yes, I promise," Ethan said. "I'm sorry."
"Ethan," his father said. "It's okay. Patton just...is different. I don't want him or any of the other prisoners hurting you." Ethan nodded.
"I'm fine, father, I promise," Ethan said.
Dee smiled and pulled his son into a hug.
"Promise me, love," Dee said. "That next time you'll tell me?"
"Of course, father," Ethan said.
"Of course."
