PERSONALITY

Seoyeon is very kind. She is always willing to help her friends and family with anything. Seoyeon is a dreamer and charismatic but is also often shy, a bit reserved, and considerably innocent and naive. Due to her kind heart, Seoyeon always tries to see the best in others, even those that have mean or cruel intentions. She's willing to give second chances believing that with patience and time, anyone can change. Her patience does have limits though, as she ended her ties with her sister Miyeon after she refused to apologize for her words. She can be easily manipulated through her kindness and forgiving nature if not careful.

Seoyeon has struggled with serve depression, where she would often mask her pain. She has been improving with therapy and the love of her family, friends, and fans. Even though she is not very openly emotional to most people, she is friendly, empathetic, understanding, supportive, and encouraging to others in hard times and will defend her love ones against those who would do them harm.

She gets her feelings hurt and cries easily, however with try to downplay her feelings; though not as much anymore. She has an easier time letting her feelings show to those whom she is close to. However, Seoyeon will act on impulse if emotional enough- like the situation with her sister. She can be seen as a bit dramatic and headstrong once she has made decision.

BACKGROUND

The youngest of 4 children, Seoyeon was a bit of a surprise to her parents. Born while the family was living in New Zealand she was heavily doted on by her mother and sisters who loved getting her cute outfits to wear. When Seoyeon was only five her family moved to South Korea, introducing the young girl to a whole new culture and genre of music, Kpop. She would sing along with the likes of IU, Ailee, and other artists. She had a natural talent for singing and her parents let her take vocal lessons to properly use her gift as her father would call it. Seoyeon began dreaming of being a singer. Her parents supported her goal but said she couldn't start auditioning until she was 13. It was during this time her family would be hit with an unexpected tragedy.

When Seoyeon was 11, her father died in a car accident on the way home from work. It affected her family tramendlessly. Her mother didn't have time to grieve as she had to worry about finances, and her older siblings were much older and tended to think that Seoyeon was still too little to understand. This really hurt her relationship with them.

Her father's passing had really affected Seoyeon, that she stopped using her English name, Lucy, the name he gave her. She fell into severe depression, that she completely loss interest in becoming a singer. It wasn't until she heard 'I' by Taeyeon that she was moved by the message of the song and remembered her love of music. She was 15 when she declared to her mother that she still wanted to be a singer, and with her mother's support Seoyeon began auditioning.

This did make a bigger rift between Seoyeon and her sister Miyeon, with the latter berating the former for chasing a "childish" dream. Their relationship was further strained when Miyeon stated that their father wouldn't approve, despite him always supporting Seoyeon's goals. The two officially stopped speaking with each other when Seoyeon passed her audition to STARHIGH Entertainment and moved to Seoul to start training.

Luckly, Seoyeon's relationship with her other sister Kelly became much more positive with Kelly proclaiming that she would be Seoyeon's biggest fan and wishing her youngest sister the best. Seoyeon trained a little less than 2 1/2 years before debuting in ECLIPSE and then later the sub-unit 5TAR.
