They drove together in The Beetle to Jones house. It was not to far from Tasty's. They came down from the car and were greeted by a stampede.

"Reporters." Rhonda said as she matched towards the crowd.

"How I hate their ass."

"Excuse me!" Rhonda was now Detective Sanders. Her best friend gone for the moment and the police officer was taking her place. "I want all of you to leave this premises. This is an ongoing investigation and no details is supposed to be leaked to the media until we have an accurate insight on what is going on." Her voice was laced with authority.

"And when will that be? When would you let the people know a serial killer is on the loose? When would you people let the public know that Steve Jones is innocent?" It was Edward Richmond. He was the worst of all reporters, ready to do anything for a good story without a care in the world who he was hurting.

"When you stop listening to crazy stories from even crazier sources. Go take your money back from who ever told you that and if you know what's good for you stay away from such people." She answered him and before he had a chance to say anything, she spoke again.

"Everyone not authorized to be here would be arrested for obstruction to justice in the next two minutes. After that anything that happens you brought upon your selves."

She raised the tapes and walked into the apartment. Laura walked passed them following her ignoring the cries of the reporters.

"Where is it?" Rhonda said to her partner Detective Saint.

"We have taken it to the lab. Hopefully it matches to the weapon we are looking for. Hi Laura." He said finally seeing her.

"Looks like your day has been more eventful than mine."

"I doubt it. You like a magnet for trouble. Nothing can beat that."

Laura chuckled. "So do you think it's the weapon?"

"It doesn't matter what I think. The test will determine what is what."

She nodded.

"Let's get to the station. I can't wait to see the look on that bastards face as we finally get him." Rhonda said.

They drove to the station and immediately they entered the whole department were in cheers. They were all congratulating Rhonda and Saint on their big win. Rhonda smiled at them and immediately went to the interrogation room.

"Let me talk to him first. I can't wait to break him into two, he wouldn't even know when he gives us a confession."

"We have to be fast before he lawyers up." Saint stated. Knowing Logan he was already in his fastest car to the station.

Rhonda nodded and then entered into the room. We watched her through the cameras that were placed in the room. She wasn't getting a confession from him Laura knew it. She wouldn't because he was innocent.

"You don't look excited. I thought you of all people would be throwing a party by now." Saint stated.

"Why say that?"

"First of all you have been to quiet. You haven't said up to seven words since we got here."

"And?"

"You're frowning. Like you are trying to figure out something."

She said after much pondering. "I just think it doesn't make sense. We searched that house twice and didn't see it then suddenly we get an anonymous call and there it was mocking us."

"Killers hardly let go of things like this. It's like a trophy to them."

"I know, it's just that it's too convenient. You hardly see cases this easy and it makes me feel like it was just setup for us to believe."

He frowned causing him to crease his forehead. "So what do you think happened?"

"That I don't know but I'm going to find out."

Just then Rhonda came out. "That bastard was just so useless. He didn't say anything useful the entire time. The only thing he kept on saying was he want his lawyer."

"That would be me." Logan said as he entered into the room looking like he just ran a marathon. "I hope you didn't harass my client."

"I'll go in next." Detective Saint said ignoring Logan. After they both entered we resumed watching the interaction between them. Steve didn't say anything no matter the tactics Saint used. After seven minutes of no success he came out.

"That guy is a don. He didn't say anything no matter what I tried. And his crazy lawyer just made me want to punch something." He said clearly frustrated.

"Let me go in." Laura said.

"No problem but I doubt you would get anything from him. He is as good as a robot."

Laura entered in to the interrogation room locked the door behind her. She knew Rhonda wouldn't be happy with what she was about to do but she had to.

"Good day Steve. How are you today?" She tried to play the good cop.

"Relevance Montez. We don't have time for idle talk especially when he is accused of murder." Logan said immediately reminding her of his presence.

"Good day to you too." She said dryly. "Now I'm going to ask you questions but I know you wouldn't answer me. I've watched you and I saw how you decided to not speak at all."

"Good. Thank God we got that one cleared out. Since you don't have any strong evidence to hold my client I suggest we leave."

"The murder weapon was found in his apartment if you were not paying attention. That's enough evidence to me."

"Evidence which can't be proven it was him that put it there. It could be planted."

"We don't have any prove that it was planted."

"And you don't have any prove that it wasn't. And let's not forget his DNA wasn't found on the murder weapon." She could hear his silent yet.

Damn it. Why did he have to be so infuriating?

She recollected herself. She didn't need to lose her temper now. Not even over Logan Greenwitch.

She smiled and looked at Jones. "I know you have no reason to want to talk to me now. You are accused of murder and don't know what you will say that will make your situation worse. I understand."

Steve looked at her. "What do you understand? Have you been in this situation before?" He talked for the first time since she entered the room. He was clearly cross.

"No but I know what it means to be alone and feel like the whole world is against you. Like nobody would understand you even if they pretend they do." She knew she was talking about herself now.

"What are you playing at?" Logan spoke up clearly not liking the way the interview was going.

"Aren't you the bitch that tried to get the court against me?" He asked finally recognized her. She decided to let the fact that he called her a bitch slide. She had more important things to worry about. "Why are you trying to pretend you're on my side? You want to deceive me into believing you're my friend then I'll give you a fucking confession." He gave a small laugh. "I'm not that stupid."

"I'm not trying to get a confession out of you because I know there is none."

They were both silent for a moment like they didn't hear what she said correctly.

"So let me get this straight-" It was Logan that spoke first. "-You think that my client is innocent."

"I don't think he's innocent. I think he is a man with plenty crimes he has his lifetime to pay for it. I just feel this one isn't of them."

"Then I guess we have no business here anymore." Logan stood up and adjusted his tie.

"Unfortunately not. His fingerprints are going to be found on the murder weapon and that is enough evidence to warrant an arrest." She then faced Jones. "But if you tell me what you aren't saying I can help you. Anything you say may help you escape from being wrongly convicted. If you are innocent there isn't anything you will say that will implicate you."

"You don't have to say anything." His lawyer advised.

He looked at the Assistant DA like he was deciding if he could trust her.

"Don't tell me you are considering t-"

"Fine." Jones said cutting Logan's statement.

"Alone." She said again pushing her limits. She knew if Logan was here she wouldn't get anything reasonable from him.

"On one condition."

"What?"

"You get me out of town. Put me on those witness protection or whatever you guys call it."

She taught of it for just a second before she agreed.

"What's happening here?" Logan spoke up confused.

"Mr Steve Jones, do you revoke your right for an attorney to be present?"

He nodded.

"Please you have to speak out."

"I do." He said.

"Don't be fooled by her. She-"

"You heard him Logan. You can now leave." She stood at the door waiting for him to leave.

He dragged his tie again a habit he was fond of especially when he was frustrated.

"I don't know the game you are playing but immediately I hear him say the word lawyer-"

"Yeah you'll come running." Like the dog you are. She wanted to add but she let it go.

She unlocked the door locking it back immediately he left not wanting Rhonda to burst in there like a raging bull.

She walked back to the interview table and sat down. "So why were you at Aria's house on the day of the murder?" She decided to go straight to the point now his lawyer was gone.

"You wouldn't believe me."

"Try me."

He took a deep breathe before he spoke. "Here goes nothing. She called me."

"She called you?" Disbelief evident in her tone.

He rolled his eyes. "I told you you wouldn't believe me."

"It's not that I don't believe you. I just don't see how that's possible. You said the last time we questioned you that you two didn't have any personal relationship. So why would she call you?"

"In case you didn't know I'm a handyman. I do anything involving domestic repairs. But I'm an ex convict and very few people want such a person in their homes. So I take jobs whenever I have one. No matter the time."

"So if I'm getting the point, Aria called you for a job by past seven."

"Yes she did."

"Why didn't you say this before? It could have saved you a lot."

He remained silent.

The Assistant DA noticed he was withdrawing. She needed to do something and fast.

"You need to talk now Jones. I may be your only hope."

He nodded. "I drove following the address she sent to my phone. It wasn't till after reached there I noticed it was her house. The mailbox said her name and her car was parked outside. I was curious about why she called my number so I decided to go in. I taught that since she was the one who called me I wasn't breaking any laws."

"Then what?"

"When I reached there she was already dead. I was about to leave when I heard someone come in. I knew how it looked for me so I hid. I was about to leave when I saw her aunt or whatever try to call the police. So I freaked out."

"You still didn't tell me why you were stalking her." She said.

"I know this is going to sound fishy and all but hear me out. I'm a piece of shit and I know. I'm not denying it. I got a rap shit as long as Cinderella's list and I know. I'm not trying to say I was innocent but I was young and stupid and trying to prove myself to people who can't even remember me now and I'm still paying for it many more years later and maybe my whole life. I'm thirty-nine I don't have a job and I have a kid with a very overbearing and demanding mother. I'm trying to make myself better. I've been going for anger management classes and support groups. I'm really trying but it's not enough. I've debts and I have a baby mama that spends more than the Kardashians. So when I got a job offering me more money that I could make in my lifetime I didn't blink before I took it. It was going to destroy everything I tried to build but it was going to bring food for my baby's table so I didn't care."

She was confused. What was he trying to say? "You said before you were framed. How?"

"Seven months ago, I got this call. I was told that I needed to do a job for this person and I'll get paid."

"How much?"

"Fifty thousand dollars."

Wow. She thought. "What was the job? It doesn't sound like plumbing to me."

"I was told to follow her and pretend I was stalking her."

"And you didn't question why? You were told to do something like that and you didn't question why. I find that hard to believe."

He looked angry. "Of course I questioned why but it didn't matter. I was told not to ask any questions or just dropped the deal. I couldn't. This was fifty grand we were talking about."

"So why did you threaten to kill her?"

"I was told to say it."

"Mr Jones no jury in the world would believe your story. Everything from the beginning sounds like a hoax and you didn't bother to take any precautions. I doubt it and I can't help you if you are wasting our time."

"I'm. Not. Lying." He gritted his teeth with his fist pressed on the table.

"Then prove it. Show me something I could believe. That the jury could believe." She needed something more than what he was giving her. "Do you know how the person who called you looks like?" She asked although she knew he didn't. They wouldn't be that stupid.

"No. We never met."

Great. Just great . "So how did you get your money?"

"It was dropped at an abandoned phone booth beside the old bakery."

"But you know if it was a male or female."

"No, the voice was always sounding robotic."

Of course they would use a voice changer. "So nothing."

"There was a name they always called. Moden. No. Med- something. You know that girl that had snakes all over her face."

"Medusa." Even saying the name out was like a bad omen to her.

"Yes! They were always like the Medusa wants you to do this or do that. At first I taught they were just trying to sound authentic but then it became creepy so I had to quit."

Or they didn't need you again. They already used you for what they wanted.

"I started recording our call after it became too real."

He had a recording? "Why didn't we start our conversation there?" He brought out his phone and played the recording.

"You are a chosen one by the Medusa. Make sure you do exactly as she said." A robotic voice said.

"So you want me to scare her. The Aria girl you are talking about?" Jones asked.

"The Medusa has given you a task. Don't ask questions. Do it and you will be mightily rewarded.

And the call was ended.

"Is that enough prove that I'm not lying?"

She nodded. But not enough. "The jury may question the authenticity of the recording. Why didn't you submit it since? What if you forged it? Questions like that will be asked."

"But I didn't."

"Then we would have to prove it. Show it to your lawyer. He would be able to help you."

He nodded.

She kept her eyes on him. Something wasn't still adding up. Why did he decided to speak now? What changed his mind?

"So why speak now? I have told you all those things before but you maintain your silence. Why now? Why the change of heart?"

He put his hand in his pocket like he was looking for something. "Because of this." He said bringing out a piece of paper from his pocket.

She took it from his hand and read it aloud.

You have angered and disobeyed the Medusa. May the innocent not pay for the sins of their fathers.

"Where did you see this?"

"It was given to Dani. Dani is my daughter."

"And you think it was them."

"I know it was them."

She nodded. "That would be all for now. Thank you for your cooperation. Your daughter will be given security and I'll try get them out of town."

"Thank you." He said like a big block was lifted off his shoulder.

"Talk to your lawyer and he will help you out. I'll try to convince the rest of the police you are innocent. In the meantime you have to be cooperative."

He nodded.

She stood up and left the room. She wasn't surprised when she saw Rhonda walk up to her in fury.

"What the fuck was that Laura?! We finally got our guy and you just sabotage everything." She was visible angry.

But just like Rhonda, Laura knew when to switch roles. "The DA's office has reasons to believe that this man is being framed. Instead of everybody trying to find the easy way out why not try to find the truth." She shot back at Rhonda. Laura her best friend was gone and the Assistant DA replaced her.

"If I'm right my client has being confirmed not guilty so I demand for his immediate release."

"Shut your trap Greenwich. Your clients finger prints were found on the murder weapon so I don't care what speculation that gets spread. All I know is that that man in there is under arrest. I have a warrant. So if you'll excuse me I have a job to do."

"He didn't do it." The Assistant DA said.

Detective Sanders looked at her. "Maybe they were right. You are not emotionally stable to be on this case. You should have listened and just stepped back. Maybe the Assistant DA has finally lost her touch." She brushed Laura as she walked passed her into the interrogation room.

Laura composed herself. She knew talking was not going to solve anything. She needed to prove it. Somehow, the truth would come out.
