The Whole "Being Dead" Thing Pt. 2

"How was it?" Wally asked as Dick came out of his audition.

"It was fine," Dick replied, "But they asked me to read Beetlejuice as well so I'm a little concerned."

"Concerned you might get the lead?" Wally scoffed, "That would be awesome man."

"Where's Raven?" Dick asked, taking the topic off him as they arrived back at their little waiting spot.

"She went in to audition," Wally replied and continued at the look of surprise on Dick's face, "That was my reaction exactly. But she was adamant she wanted to give it a go. She said that one of the characters spoke to her."

Dick instantly understood, her mom was dead, and spoiler alert, so was Lydia's. But that wasn't his information to share so he just gave Wally a shrug as the two of them sat back down.

"It's a shame the rest of the team didn't come down with us this time actually," Wally sighed, breaking the silence that had settled, "It would have been fun to do another team musical."

"Do you remember our team musicals?" Dick asked, "People almost died, every single time."

"But they didn't," Wally replied with a smirk and Dick just shook his head at his best friend.

They settled back into silence and Dick took the time to look around the theatre again. He could see the seats at the front where the team had always sat for rehearsals. The hole in the wall where he had almost been shot. That had been a fun production, but at least Slade hadn't been on his back since. And, his favourite part, the little ledge that no one could get to but him. Just above the stage where he'd sit to scare Wally. It seemed a lifetime ago that he was that fun teenager. He was so lost in his memories of the place he didn't notice the woman in front of him until Wally pointed her out.

"Oh, hi," He stood up so he could see her better but he still had to look up to her, "Can I help you?"

"This is my first time at one of these and I couldn't help but overhear you talking about how you've done this before," She explained, "Would you mind helping me out?"

"Of course," Dick smiled, "It's simple really. You choose which character you'd like to audition for, learn, as best you can, the small script section and if they sing, a part of their song. They'll call you by your number and then you just perform for them. After that, you're free to leave and the cast list gets emailed out in a couple of days."

"Thank you. What's your name?" She asked.

"Richard Grayson." He replied, "You?"

"Kori Anders," She smiled at him and walked off, Dick couldn't help but notice her hips moving excessively.

"I think she's into you," Wally commented, "Did you see that?"

"Did you see her number?" Dick replied, "She went in before us."

"The conspiracy only grows," Wally chuckled but quietened as Artemis and Babs came over.

"Where's Raven?" Babs asked as she sat down.

"Decided to audition," Dick said, "How was your audition?"

"It was awesome," She smiled, "But I can't make all the show dates."

"What?" Dick asked and the other two looked over, "I thought we'd cleared the schedule."

"We had," Babs explained, "But a case came up yesterday that I had to take, it was Owlman. And a few of the dates which we have him for a show are the same as the show. I'm sorry."

"It's fine," Dick said, brushing a strand of hair out of her face, "Next time, please tell me beforehand."

"Next time I will. But you enjoy the show," She smirked.

It was a couple a minutes before Raven came out, her eyes red again, but no one commented on it and she seemed happy that no one brought it up as they all headed off.

----------

Back at the flat Raven headed straight to her room with a thank you to the couple who sat on the sofa and turned the news on in the background.

"We're going to have to tell the family about Raven staying with us," Babs said, "You know how they are with secrets."

"I was going to wait a while, see what happens first," Dick explained, "But if you so insist you can go call them now."

"I do," Bab's said and, with a quick peck, headed off to phone Bruce and the Bat-gang.

I do.

The words were the same as those of the wedding vow, and whether that was a secret message from Babs that she wanted to marry him, he was going to do it anyway. He had planned to do it on the first show, but she was no longer in it so that was going to be more difficult. His thoughts drifted to the ring sat in the false bottom of his drawer. It was only simple, as Babs liked things. A silver band with a small diamond on top. But there was also Raven now. This proposal became more complicated every day. To plan their wedding whilst they were looking after her, it would be cruel to everyone. He ran his hand down his face as he released a sigh; when had normal life become so difficult?
