Say My Name
Raven and Dick had sat out on the roof until the sun had risen, heading back into the flat together to find Babs fixing up a breakfast.
"You two okay?" She asked as they came in, "I couldn't find you last night."
"Yeah," Dick replied, "Just had some bonding time up on the roof."
They settled back into silence and Dick headed into his room, quickly showering off and changing into a Teen Titans tee and jeans, when he came back out he saw that Raven had also changed out of her sleepwear into a grey sweater and dark jeans. He gave Babs a quick peck on the cheek as he set out the plates for breakfast and the three of them sat down at the table. He looked at the two girls, everyone had the day off work to be at home, and rehearsals weren't until 7 this evening, just to go over the act one scenes the last time before a full run-through tomorrow. But maybe it would be a nice idea to go out, Raven hadn't been out of the house apart from rehearsals really, she probably needed a change of scenery before she went insane.
"How do you two feel about going out today?" He asked as they moved into the kitchen to do the washing up, for a rich guy he hadn't invested in a dishwasher.
"Where to?" Babs asked.
"We could head down to a theme park," Dick suggested as he turned to face Raven, "What do you say?"
"What's a theme park?" Raven asked and Dick just had to stop for a second.
She didn't know what a theme park was. Wherever she came from needed a real upgrade, not that it could get one anymore, but geez.
"We're going to a theme park," He said, "Babs, would you mind packing some food and I'll book some fast track tickets."
Babs nodded and began to pack some lunches.
"What do you want me to do?" Raven asked as Dick logged onto his laptop.
"I need you to enjoy yourself," He said, "Because this is going to rock your world."
----------
They pulled up to the park and quickly checked in. Dick personally loved theme parks, the screams of enjoyment, the sheer speed and weightlessness of the rollercoasters. Pure joy came from these places.
He knew they were one of Babs' more popular daytime thrill-seeking methods as well, she'd even made a special trip to England once just so she could ride the Smiler. That's why Bruce had funded Alton Towers to set up here in Gotham, and it was worth every penny. With his investment in the place, he received part of the profit, not that he needed it, but it also meant that his family had reduced rates.
He looked at Raven's face as she looked over the park, a smile was on her face and that was all Dick needed as he dragged her down to her first ride, 13. They got on the ride and they were off.
He could hear her screaming behind him, and it turned into a laugh as the ride continued. They moved into the black bit and he grabbed Babs' hand, knowing what was coming. He laughed at Ravens scream as the ride dropped once. Twice. And propelled itself backwards. When they got off her hair was a mess but her smile was huge.
"Can we do that again?"
"How about we try something even better?" Babs responded and Dick followed them as she dragged her off to another ride.
----------
Raven collapsed on her bed, still grinning like the Chesire cat, after rehearsals. Theme parks must be the best thing to exist ever, after Waffles of course. She made quick work of brushing her teeth and showering, changing into her sleepwear, and crawling into bed. She had almost fallen asleep when she heard him.
"Raven, Oh Raven," She didn't move, didn't even dare breathe as his voice filled her head, "Raven, won't you let me out?"
"No," She whispered, almost afraid to tell him after what she'd seen him do, "No."
"That's not very nice Raven," He crooned, "Keeping your father trapped in a gem."
"You're not my father," She said, louder this time, "You didn't raise me, you didn't even care about me. I'm just for you to use."
"And you made a good first impression my darling," He said, "But now, it's time to do what you were really born for. Give me Earth."
She felt the power ripple through her, knew that even as she tried to stop it her demon form had come to surface, and the chant filled her head. It was all she could hear, deafening her.
'The gem was born of evil's fire, the gem shall be his portal, he comes to claim, he comes to sire, the end of all things mortal.'
She felt pain welling as she refused to say the words aloud, the noise deafening to the point she lost her balance. She fell backwards, a sharp pain running through her lower back as she crashed into a dresser and tipped it, the loud crash muffled under the words of the spell. She fell to the floor, her knees barking in pain but not as much as everything else, covering her ears in an attempt to drown out his voice, his laugh.
"Get out of my head!" The words were screamed before she even knew it, unknowingly waking up the other members of the flat, "Get out!"
She tried to move, getting as far as standing up to go for the door but as soon as she reached out her balance went again and she collapsed to the floor, trying to grab onto another for balance but failing, pulling over a drawer set with her.
"Say it!" Her father screamed in her ears and she let herself curl into a ball as she tried to drown it out.
She'd just have to wait for it to pass. If she was still alive by that point.
----------
Kori had just finished delivering another batch of criminals to Blüdhaven P.D as her phone rang. She fished it out of her pocket to see who it was, Dick.
"Hey," She answered as she found a seat up on the edge of the police roof, "Whats's up?"
"Kori," He answered his voice all business, "You and Raven are close, aren't you?"
"Where is this going?" She asked, "Becuase if you're asking me to back off your daughter, not happening."
"Okay. A: She's not my daughter," Dick replied and Kori was actually a little shocked at his tone, "B: I need to know what you were talking about. She's freaking out in her room and we can't get in."
"What makes you think-" She began but he quickly cut her off, "I know you're not human. I know you're Starfire and right now we need to put aside whatever disguise you try to wear and help Raven, who, guess what, I don't think is entirely human either."
"How did you figure this out?" Kori asked after a moments silence.
"I'll explain it all afterwards, but right now she needs help," Dick said, "Please?"
"Give me your address, I'll be right there," She said.
Dick quickly thanked her and told her the address. She wasted no time heading over, not even bothering to put on her disguise as she knocked on the door to see a red-head answer.
"Thank you for coming Kori," She said, "Raven's through here."
Kori followed the woman through the flat to a door. She could hear sobbing coming from the other side, and a concerned Dick was standing this side trying to talk to Raven.
"We don't know what's wrong with her," Dick said when he saw the Tameranian, "But if you could try."
"I'll give it my best shot," Kori said, "Does she have a window?"
"Yes," The red-head responded, "You want to enter through it?"
"It sounds like she's right next to the door. I don't want to hurt her," Kori explained as she headed back out and around the building.
Raven's window was easy to recognise, if only from what was going on inside. It definitely wasn't a human problem, what looked like black blood was spinning around the room like a tornado, but between parts, Kori could just make out a figure. She had red skin, and Raven's typical purple hair, her eyes squeezed tight, and her forehead stone glowing a menacing red. She pried open the window, hearing the lock snap, and instantly the wind picked up.
Her hair whipped her face painfully as she moved into the room, touching to the floor and tying her hair into a ponytail to try and help her see. She pushed through the room, the black thing seeming to part to let her through until she was crouched next to Raven.
"Raven, honey, can you hear me?"
She jumped backwards as four yellow eyes snapped open and looked directly at her. She just stared for a moment, she had never seen anything like this before, but Raven definitely wasn't human.
"You need to leave," Raven shouted, "Now."
"I'm not leaving you, Raven," Kori said, "I'm not leaving you."
She stayed still as the girl threw her arms around her and held on for dear life, "I don't want to do it again. Make it stop."
Kori did all she could, hug the girl back and whisper what she hoped was soothing words. And so there she stayed for the rest of the night.
----------
Dick and Babs sat outside Raven's door all night, listening as whatever was happening calmed down and as the sun rose the door opened. Dick stole a look inside to see Raven sleeping peacefully on her bed, her room a tad destroyed but she looked fine. Kori quietly closed the door behind her as she came out.
"What happened in there?" Dick asked.
"Well you were right, she's not human," Kori explained and Babs lead them all through to the living room to sit, "And something was definitely going on. She told me to make it stop. I don't know what it was, but it was really getting to her. Some sort of black liquid, I'm assuming it's her form of magic or something, was flowing through the room like a hurricane. And Raven,"
"Red skin, four yellow eyes?" Dick asked as Kori stopped talking.
"How did you know?" Kori asked.
"Seen it twice, once when I first approached her and the second when she came running up to the roof the other night," Dick explained, "Do you know what she is?"
"No," Kori admitted, "But that brings me on to the next thing, how the hell did you figure me out?"
"He deals with these sort of things a lot," Babs explained, "It's kind of in our line of work."
"As cops?" Kori asked, "And, who are you?"
"That's Barbara," Dick answered for her, "And not as cops exactly. She's Batgirl and I'm Nightwing."
Kori was silent a second and Dick couldn't help the corner of his mouth twitching up at her surprised expression, "I should have guessed really."
"It goes over a lot of people's heads. Don't take it personally," Babs said, "But what are you and why are you here?"
"I'm a Tamaranian" Kori explained and Dick made a mental file to write this all into the computer later, "From planet Tameran. My home doesn't exist anymore though, which is my fault. I was kept as a slave in childhood, due to being royalty and all that was a big deal, when I was 10 I fought back, they struck revenge by destroying my planet. I killed them and ran."
This time Dick and Babs were the ones shocked into silence. Not only was Kori an alien, but she was also the last surviving member and a royal. And Dick thought his life was bad.
"I'm sorry," Dick said, "If you ever need someone to talk to, you know where we are."
"Thank you," Kori said, "I'll see you for the run-through this evening then."
"See you then."
----------
Raven wasn't asleep, she was fully awake as the yellow woman left her room, and she snuck out after her to listen to what she was telling Dick and Babs. But she hated what she heard. The yellow woman, Kori, was telling them about last night. Not only that, but Dick had seen her demon form. She didn't stick around to hear anymore. She ran back to her room, grabbed her backpack, filled it with as much as she could, stole a bottle of water from the kitchen and left the flat.
She didn't know where she was going, but she couldn't stay there and put them in danger. They knew too much already, and if they knew the rest. She swears she'd never cried so much in her life as she had since she first contacted her father. And he was still in the back of her head, whispering to her. She just kept her head down and kept moving, she had to get away from everyone. She couldn't risk hurting anyone else. She was meant to be alone.
