Girl Scout
M'gann and Conner headed back to their place after everyone had helped Raven settle into a room at the mountain.
"I think I might go up again to see her tomorrow," M'gann said as she crawled into bed with Conner, "I want to help her."
"I had a feeling you might say that," Conner said as he turned over to face her, "And I'm not going to stop you. Just give me a call when you're leaving."
"You're the best husband ever," M'gann said and gave him a kiss, "Now get to sleep."
She felt Conner looking at the back of her head a moment longer before they both went off to sleep.
----------
M'gann woke up after Conner, as per usual, to hear him in the shower. She quickly threw on a simple pair of leggings and light pink top before shouting to Conner that she was off. She used the zeta in the garage to get to the mountain. As she arrived she felt a sense of nostalgia.
This place used to be her home, she used to get up every morning and burn some eggs for her Conner and Kaludr. And the team would always come in and they'd just have some fun before they went out of a mission. The new team were based at the Watchtower, so she had never had a reason to come back here, to visit her old room.
She went over to the kitchen first, she had missed it. When she opened the cupboards she could see the food they had brought in stacked where she had always organised it before. A smile split her face as she started pulling out ingredients for a breakfast. She was sure Raven would appreciate. She was halfway done when said half-demon appeared.
"What are you doing here?" She asked, causing M'gann to jump and throw the eggs in the air.
She was about to catch them with her telekinesis when Raven did it for her, a strange black looking fluid appearing around them as they were carried back over to the pan.
"I was going to do that," M'gann said not giving away her surprise.
"What are you doing here?" Raven asked again.
"I thought I'd come and keep you company for a while," M'gann admitted, "I know I don't like being alone, so I guessed you wouldn't either."
"I don't mind alone," Raven said as she sat up on the counter and M'gann remembered when Dick was too small to be able to get up onto the counter without cheating, "In fact, I'd rather be left alone right now."
M'gann looked at her, her eyes catching on the glowing Chakra, "What's it like having your father in there?"
"Hell," Raven said with a smirk, "He doesn't shut up."
"Why does it glow?" She asked as she put the bacon in the pan to fry up as well, moving the eggs onto a hot plate.
"It only glows when he's active," Raven explained, "Which, at the moment, is more often than not," Silence settled for a moment, the only sound in the room the sizzling of the fatty meat, "So, you're a Martian?"
"Yes," M'gann answered, "A White Martian to be specific."
"What other types are there?" Raven asked.
"Well, my uncle J'onn is a Green Martian," M'gann said, "They're the primary Martians that you read about in books and all that. They're the more dominant species, whilst us White Martians were captured and treated like slaves."
"I'm sorry," Raven said, "I shouldn't have asked."
"No," M'gann let another smile spread across her face, "It's fine. It's good to talk about these things."
The two sat in a comfortable silence as M'gann finished cooking and served up two breakfasts for them, sitting down at the bar. But Raven seemed distracted, barely touching the food on her plate. M'gann watched her carefully, trying to decide what was going on with the girl. When she finally noticed the problem. The Chakra was glowing the brightest she'd ever seen it.
"Raven," She started but stopped as the girl's appearance began to waver.
Her usually pale skin became a burnt red, her nails turning black and two more eyes appeared where her eyebrows were, all four a steady glowing yellow. M'gann swallowed the lump in her throat, "Raven, are you okay?"
The girls head turned towards her, an evil smile on her face, but then she reverted to normal, her eyes from menacing to frightened.
"I'm sorry," She said as she swung off the chair and started reversing away from M'gann, "You should probably leave."
"I want to help," M'gann said, "If you'd let me in your head, I can help."
"You can't help me!" She screamed, "I can't be helped. You have to leave. Now."
"I won't do that Raven," M'gann said as she left her Martian form take on, "I can't."
She watched as her skin flashed between red and pale, terror growing in her, and finally, her demon form prevailed, "Then prepare to die."
M'gann didn't have time to react as a bookcase came flying at her head, only time to duck the oncoming onslaught, but that left her open as Raven launched herself at M'gann. She blocked a punch to her stomach and bent over to avoid the one coming at her face. She took her quick reprieve to go on the offensive, throwing the books at her like a swarm until she was trapped in a tunnel of them.
She focused as hard as she could on them, against the resistance, but eventually, she went flying back with the books as Raven used her own power to overcome to force.
She landed heavily, seeing stars for a moment, and then noticed something next to her head. Her phone.
She swiped it up quickly as she rolled out of the way of the knife that came at her head. She flew up and at Raven, landing a solid hit and sending the girl flying back into the wall. A webbing crack appeared behind her and M'gann took her moment to pull out her phone and send out a distress signal.
She felt a force connect with her side and fell to the floor, her phone scattering out of her reach. She looked back over to it to see Raven standing there, a look of sheer evil joy on her face as she looked at the device, and then crushed it.
Now M'gann was really screwed.
She used her power to try and delve into Raven's mind but was met with a block strong enough to rival Dick's. The attempt had left her vulnerable as Raven came back at her, taking her throat in her hand and lifting off the floor. She moved her backwards until M'gann's back hit the wall. She could feel her circulation cutting off, feel herself growing weaker as she struggled to get out of Raven's grasp.
The last thing she saw was Raven's malicious grin.
