Day-O (The Banana Boat Song)
Wally and Artemis walked into the theatre, buzzing to be able to finally say they've completed act one. What they didn't expect to have happened was to be approached by a flustered Dick.
"Have either of you seen Raven?" He asked before they could even greet him.
"No, why?" Wally asked, "What's happened?"
"She had a freak out last night," Dick explained, "Like, a non-human magic freak out. And now she's run away."
"What?" Artemis cut in, "Do you have any idea where?"
"I wouldn't be asking if I did," Dick bit back, "I've already checked where I found her, any cafes or libraries, anywhere she might have enjoyed going. Nada. She's gone."
The two stayed silent for a moment, trying to think of anything to say, but they came up with nothing.
"We'll find her," Artemis said, "We have to."
As she looked at him closer she could tell that he had been crying, he had really cared for the girl.
"Well rehearsals are cancelled this evening," He said, "Raven's not here, I can't focus. They said there's no point running it tonight and that everyone should come back tomorrow to run it instead. Would you mind helping to find her instead?"
"Of course we'll help," Wally said, "That's what friends are for."
"Thank you," He said and they headed to their usual seats.
There was already a few people sat there, Babs, Kaldur, M'gann and Kori. Though why she was here Artemis didn't know.
"Here's what going to happen," Dick explained as he got out a map and started pointing out areas, "We're going to search all night if we have to. I have this area, Babs you're here, Artemis is this side. The rest of you are spread a little further. M'gann, you have the train line, Kaldur you're in Happy Harbour, Wally, you have Star City and Kori you take Gotham. And no killing anyone this time."
"Wait, what?" Artemis cut in, "No killing anyone this time?"
"She's a Tameranean," Dick explained, "And she's learning."
Artemis looked back over at Kori as she removed her bracelets and her skin changed from brown to yellow before her eyes, her hair becoming more like a living flame and her eyes a pure green, no whites.
"Okay..." She said, "Let's do this thing."
---------
Kaldur swam through the rivers to the small city known as Happy Harbour. He moved into the city, looking over the streets and glancing at the mountain that had been his home for years every now and again.
The streets were almost empty at this time, a few late workers heading home or heading to the night shift, but it wasn't like Gotham or Blüdhaven, there were no gangs appearing with knives and guns with the aim just to terrorize. He moved through the streets as silent as a wraith, watching for any sign of purple hair. Dick had updated him about her non-humanness, so he moved with an element of caution, not wanting to have her use her powers, whatever they were, against him.
He had missed this city, the hope of it. It was strange, though he missed it and thought of it as home he hadn't been here in years, he'd always found something else to do. He turned a corner into a back street and stopped. A form was curled up on the floor, almost as if it was sleeping, and a red chakra glinted.
"Kaldur to the team, I have located Raven," He said into his comm unit, "I shall take her to Mount Justice."
He heard them all agree and say they were heading over there know as he approached Raven.
He was a couple of steps away when she looked up at him with large blue eyes.
"Stay away," She said, but there was no force behind it, "I don't want to hurt you."
"Don't worry," He said, "I have thick skin."
"You don't understand, I can't control it," She said as she stood up, hugging a backpack, "I need to leave."
"Raven, wherever you go there will always be people around," Kaldur explained, "But if you come with me I know a place where you'll be safe and everyone else will be safe. You have to trust me."
She looked at his extended hand a moment, and her eyes widened at the webbing between the fingers. He smiled at her as he saw her reaction and she took his hand. Together they walked back to Mount Justice.
----------
She kept repeating that he wasn't human to herself as they walked in silence. That he could protect himself from her, but she was still on edge as they left behind the city and walked into a forest towards what looked like a mountain. Eventually, they reached the base of the mountain and she was surprised as the ground opened up and he led her inside. She looked around the place, it was well maintained to say the least. The walls clean and every room tidy, it almost looked like a living space. In fact, it looked exactly like a place someone could live. As she turned a corner she saw other people. Wally, one of Dick's friends, was sat on a green sofa and Kori was standing next to him.
"Where are the others?" Kaldur asked as he left her to head over to them.
"They're only human. And a Martian. Give them a moment to get here," Wally responded.
"You said everyone was safe here," Raven cut in, "They're not safe if they're here."
"Raven," She turned at the sound of Dicks's voice to see him with Babs, Artemis and Megan, "Everyone is perfectly safe here."
"No, I could kill you," She started but Dick cut her off, "You'd have to kill me first, and that's not going to happen."
"Look," She turned back to face Megan as she spoke, "We're not all we look to be either." And as she watched the girl's white skin became, well, white and her ginger hair disappeared, "I'm a White Martian, not even human."
Raven just looked at her a moment and saw someone else come in, a man she didn't know.
"Why'd you call me here this late?" He asked but stopped when he saw Raven and Kori, "Is it because of these two?"
"Just the one honey," Megan said as she gave him a kiss, "That's Kori, she's fine, and that's Raven. We need to help her."
He looked at her before coming over and she took a few steps back, "Don't come near me. I don't want to hurt you."
"I'm a Kryptonian," He said, "You'd have to be doing something to hurt me."
She looked at him as he came over but didn't move back further as he examined her, and once he was satisfied he moved back over to Megan.
"Raven," It was Dick again and she turned to face him, "None of us are your average joe. Kaldur's an Atlantean, Wally's a Speedster and Babs, Artemis and I are trained beyond what most people can even imagine. We just don't know what you are."
"I'm dangerous," She said again, "Please."
"We're not going to leave you," Babs said, "It would be wrong."
"But what if I hurt you?" Raven asked again.
"You keep saying you're going to hurt us," Artemis said, "But like we've explained, you can't. Everyone here is safe, including you."
Raven just looked at the group of people for a moment, and they all looked safe. Maybe she should try believing them, maybe she should try telling the truth.
"Then I need to tell you all something," Raven said, "I'm part demon, my father is Trigon or better known as Satan, and my mother was a normal human. She raised me in another dimension, Azarath. It was peaceful, no crime at all. But I'd never met my father, and my mom never talked about him. So I wanted to talk to him. I summoned him to Azarath. Then he destroyed Azarath, he killed everyone. And then, then he thanked me. I panicked. My mom had always told me what to do if he ever appeared. So I cast the spell and trapped him. Then I ran through a portal to here. I've been with Dick ever since."
"Where did you trap him?" Megan asked.
Raven didn't say anything, just pointed to her Chakra. She didn't look at the team at the shocked and awed and pitying faces.
"Well, if you ever need anything," Dick said at last, "We're always willing to help. Now, I'll pick you up for rehearsals tomorrow at 6."
"What? I can't go to rehearsals-" She started but Dick cut her off.
"We can't lose the star," He said, "Not when everyone wants her there so badly."
