Creepy Old Guy
The trio arrived back at the flat as the sun started to rise and all sat together on the sofa.
"So, what happens now?" Raven asked after a moment of silence.
"We continue as we were before," Dick replied, "We get the show done and move on with our lives."
"And what happens to me?" Raven asked, "I have no where to go."
The adults didn't answer and Raven had her answer. They'd never intended on keeping her beyond the show had they?
"It's okay," Raven said, "I don't really belong here anyway. I'm not like you guys."
"We're not really like everyone else either," Babs said, "We'll figure this out. It's just a lot has happened and our plans have changed as we've learnt."
"I'll see you for rehearsal," And Raven headed to her room.
----------
It had been a couple weeks since everything had been turned upside down and righted again and it was almost like it had all been put behind them. The show had been set and full rehearsals were underway.
It was only a week until opening night and Gotham had been buzzing with excitement. Even over in Blüdhaven the three had managed to create a spark of life among the streets, the entire police force had booked tickets to come see as well.
"Raven, would be able to come here for a second?"
She stopped her packing at the sound of Dick's voice. They hadn't said anything about the end of the show yet, but Raven knew what was coming. She'd probably be going to the mountain, a place where she'd be safe and there'd be more powered people able to help her. It was either that or they'd be sending her home, or what was left of it. She placed her final picture of the three of them in her case before heading into the kitchen to see the pair there.
"So, we've been thinking," Babs said, "And it's been really nice having you in the flat, and we want to help you to control your powers, to learn about yourself. The show's soon and so we've had to make some decisions."
"And I'm getting sent home," Raven said for them, "I know."
"What? No," Dick said, "We've decided to officially take you in. It was hard work but we've created you a life here, as our adopted daughter."
Raven didn't know what to say, and they must have known as they came over to her and she heard something smash in the distance. And then they were all on the floor in a hug. As a family.
----------
Artemis was one of the few to arrive early for the final rehearsal, Wally in her arms.
"Everything is set up in your rooms, get into costume as quickly as you can and meet me back out here," Glynn said as he saw them, "This needs to go perfectly or so help me I will shoot every last one of you."
"I see the stress is back," Wally said as he headed backstage with his girlfriend.
"He wears it well considering he does it every year," Artemis chuckled, "How you feeling?"
"Like I'm about to die and haunt a house for the next couple hours," He replied with a kiss.
"Seems like a plan," She replied, "Now don't take too long getting ready, I still want to spend some time with you."
And with that they headed to their separate dressing rooms. Artemis was out after Wally, but she wasn't surprised he was a speedster.
"I still can't get over how you look as a ginger," Wally commented as she took her seat next to him, "Maybe that's what our kids will look like some day."
"So long as they're not as stupid as you, they can look however they want," She replied.
"That's not very nice now."
Artemis looked up at Dick's voice as he, Babs and Raven strolled in
"Hi," She said before turning to Raven, "Had enough of them yet?"
"Not just yet," She replied, "But he did try to stop me eating his favourite cereal because it was the last and he couldn't be bothered to go to the corner shop next door."
She just raised her eyebrows at the new father who just shrugged as if to say what can he do.
"Anyway, we're gonna all go get ready for the final run through," Babs said, "See you in a minute."
----------
That evening Raven dressed herself in the most Lydia thing she could find. The cast were all doing a meal together before opening night. She could tell that most of the adults were definitely going to be drinking, but Dick had assured her he wouldn't touch a drop and he'd make sure everyone got home safe. So that's how she walked in to the living room in a knee length dress with a lace choker, combat boots and her face covered in make-up, mostly eyeliner and dark lipstick. She thought she'd outdone herself until she saw Dick's outfit.
He wore a striped black and white suit, as Beetlejuice does, with purple tie and his hair was way over-jelled into spikes with green hair chalk tinting the black. Babs must have done his make-up though, because whilst the dark eye rings were easy enough there was a beetle drawn in eyeliner just in the corner of his right eye.
"Are you ready to go Miss Deetz?" He asked as he extended an arm.
"Of course Mister Juice," She replied as she took it.
"You two have fun, and I can't wait to see you tomorrow," Babs called as the pair headed out the door and drove down to Gotham. They arrived at the restaurant to see the table mostly full already, just a few of the dancers missing.
"You two are over here," Kaldur called and they headed over to sit with him, "Cool makeup."
"Babs forced me to sit there for an hour until she got it right," Dick replied as they took their seats.
They ordered their drinks, Dick just having water whilst Raven had a J2O, and chatted amongst each other. The show being the main topic of conversation and Raven had to admit, she'd never felt more at home than amongst this group of misfits.
----------
Kori arrived home that night, alone, but for once in her life she no longer felt lonely. She knew that if she needed she had a group of people she could reach out to. They might not be the closest they could be, but they were definitely going to be, if only because of the secret they all shared amongst them.
She'd admit, she wasn't sad that she'd been rejected by Dick, when she had first seen him she'd felt naturally attracted to him, but she now realises that it wasn't love. It was because somehow he radiated safety, that he'd accept her and bring her friends and family. She climbed into bed, more content, and full, than she had ever felt in her life. And for some reason, it was the first night she was ashamed of her past.
-----------
Raven woke up for the show hours earlier than she really needed to. But she was excited, and who could blame her? She ran straight to Dick and Babs room, throwing open the door with no attempt to stay quiet as she jumped onto the bed.
"Get up, get up, it's show day," She said as the adults slowly tried to wake themselves up.
"Someone's excited," Babs chuckled as she rolled over, "What time is it?"
"It's only six," Dick replied, "You are aware we're out most of the night aren't you?"
"So?" Raven asked, "That sounds like an iss-you."
"She's so taking after you," Babs said as she started to get up, "Give us ten minutes and we'll get breakfast on."
"Okay," She said and headed back to her room to change from her pyjamas and into some loose clothes.
She looked at the back of her door at the picture of her mom, "I wish you could be here mom, but don't worry. Even if I can't see you, I know you're watching me. I love you mom. Thank you, for everything."
----------
The bows had just finished and Dick had come to the conclusion that nothing was ever going to be better than the feeling of the audience having enjoyed the show. Apart from maybe what came next.
"If I could have all your attention for just a moment longer," He said as the applause started to die, "I have something I'd like to do before you all leave.
"For years, I have known a woman who would stand by me no matter what happened, and when I first met her, I didn't realise that. I brushed her off, I got caught up in things bigger than myself and left her behind. But I'm glad she stayed and I learnt to appreciate her. She became my rock whenever I got caught up in the storm. And I can't imagine life without her," I looked down at where she was sat in the front row, "Babs, would you come up here?"
She made her way up to the stage to the cheers of the audience.
"Barbara Gordon, you are the light of my life, my lifeline. I don't know what I'd do without you, what the world would do without you. Barbara Gordon, will you share the rest of your life me?" I got down on my knee, removing the ring from my pocket.
"Yes, one hundred times yes," She said and I stood up and caught her mouth in mine.
The cheers of the cast, crew and audience were all muted, she was all that mattered then. We broke apart and I slipped the ring onto her finger. Then we all took our final bows, Babs with us, and the curtain came down.
----------
Raven was ecstatic over what had just happened. Not only had she been adopted by them, they were getting married. She was part of a proper family. The after show drinks were crazy, with everyone celebrating left right and centre. The only people not having alcohol were Dick, Babs and Raven. Even the Bat Family had come to the drinks. After all, the cast party wouldn't be complete without the producer and his family.
"How you feeling?" Raven turned her attention away from the main party to see Damian standing there.
"There's so much happening," She admitted, "It's amazing but a little overwhelming."
"It's okay, I never really did social settings," He said, "We can step out if you want."
"Yeah, I'd like that," She smiled at him and she could have sworn the corners of his mouth turned up as well.
