*Sonic's POV*
"Are you going to say anything?" I asked, my arms wrapped around his neck as he skated off. I was holding onto him tightly, my head pressed against his chest as he carried me, I could hear his heart and it was beating fast, too fast.

"Shadow?" I asked again. He hadn't said a single word. He had simply picked me up and started running. Was he mad at me?

"It was Eggman." I said, he finally stopped and put me down. We were close enough to walk the rest of the way.

"I know." He looked ahead, he hadn't even bothered to look at me at all since we left Sally's house.

"Look, I'm sorry that I kissed you. I just really needed her to leave me alone." I dropped my ears, he hated me now, didn't he?

"I know." He said again, same monotone voice. I shook my head and walked in front of him the stretched my arms to the sides, blocking his way.

"Are you just never going to talk again? I'm sorry! Please." I kept my ears down.

I don't know when it happened, I don't know how it happened, but I grew feelings for him. And him shutting me down was hurtful. I thought maybe he may have felt the same after what he did at the cabin. It was a small sign of affection but coming from him? Chaos, it was huge! I thought maybe he did like me, or maybe I read him wrong?

Did I read him wrong?

"Talk to me!" I yelled at him but he didn't even look at me for more than a split second. He tried to get past me but I kept blocking. He was tired so I knew he wouldn't run past me, I knew he wouldn't use that chaos emerald he had either. "Do you hate me now?"

"Let me through, Hedgehog!" He growled.

"Do you hate me now?" I raised my voice again. Shadow grabbed my wrist and raised it.

"No!" He snapped back. "I don't hate you!"

"Then what?!" I snapped at him as well. "Why won't you talk to me? Look at me? Did the kiss disgust you?" I kept shouting, tears threatening to come out. I don't know why it suddenly got so intense, why we were so mad at each other. I wanted answers. "Why are you ignoring me?!"

"BECAUSE I CAN'T LOVE YOU!" Shadow snapped, louder than before. He flinched when the words left his mouth and he quickly let go of my wrist and took a step back.

"What?" I asked, a single tear escaping my eyes. Shadow ran one hand down his quills and took in a deep breath.

"Let's just get you home, Faker. I promised your mother I would get you home safe." He spoke a bit calmer. I stayed quiet, his words echoing in my mind. I clenched my fists and shook my head as I looked down at the grass. "Faker."

"No." I mumbled. "Shadow, did I read you wrong? I saw the way you reacted when I kissed you earlier. You liked it. Or did I read that wrong? What about at the cabin? You were happy, weren't you? Or did I read that wrong too?"

"Fak -." Shadows voice lowered. "Sonic. I -"

"Did I read you wrong?" I asked again. He stayed quiet for a bit then shook his head.

"No. You didn't." He confessed, looking away.

"I know you're scared, Shadz." I said lowly, almost as whisper as I took a step closer to him and placed my hand on his muzzle. Shadow tensed lightly then felt as he hesitated but soon enough, he leaned at my touch. I smiled softly at that. "I'm not going to hurt you, I promise."

"But I will." He grabbed my hand and pulled it away. "One way or another, you'll end up hurt."

I immediately knew what he meant. He meant because of Eggman, he meant because of what happened with Maria. He was just as afraid as I was. Just as scared.

I took a step back then held ny hand out, offering it to Shadow.

"I can handle it, Shadz." I smiled at him. "And if I get hurt, it will be worth it if it means I am with you." I kept my hand stretched out, hoping he would grab it. "Why not be scared together?"

Shadow looked at me, the two of us getting lost in each other's eyes. He finally blinked, snapping him out of it and he looked down at my hand. There was a moment where I felt he was going to leave, the moment he reached then retrieved his hand quickly. I looked up at him, if I kept looking at our hands, I felt like my heart would explode out of my chest, especially if he decided not to take it. But just when I looked up, I felt his hand hold mine and then our fingers intertwined.

Shadow didn't say anything, and I didn't either. There was nothing else to be said, neither of us wanted to ruin this moment. Our moment.

We started walking, looking up at rhe stars as we walked hand in hand. When we finally reached my house, Shadow let go of me, he gave me a small smile, one I didn't expect and instantly vanished when the door opened up.

"You had us all worried!" I was suddenly hugged by everyone in our class and my family, except for Rouge and Shadow who I could see were now having a serious conversation.

And I knew what it was about.

I have 3 minutes of freedom to post this and say that I may rewrite the ending of this story.
I feel like it was too.... cartoony? Idk if I even make sense. Idk. Idk. Ill reread whenever I have time and think about it.
I'm posting the next chapter of Through the Darkness as well. Hopefully I have enough time.
