⨓17. Night Of Shadows
Author's POV
Namjoon and Jin layed on the comfy bed while staring up at the ceiling which was playing one of their most favourite and addicting k-dramas, Vincenzo. They just loved it too much ok! So don't judge them for watching it all the time! The whole ceiling was installed with a hologram TV. When it is turned of, the original state of the ceiling is able to be seen. But regardless of the TV being holographic, you could have the same theatre-like screen to watch to. So they both decided to watch it while lying down on their bed and staring up because...they were night owls. Though, they soon finished their current episode and closed the TV.
There was pin-drop silence in the huge darkroom. Nobody spoke for a solid 5 minutes. But that all was thrown out of the window when Jin broke the quietness with his soothing voice. "You know" Joon looked at Jin for a second but then his eyes landed back on the ceiling. "What?" He asked.
"When I died and came to the registration office here for the first time, they gave me a sheet that had one question on it. It was optional to fill or not. And you can put as many answers as you want." "What was the question?" "What have you learned in life?" "So what did you answer?"
"I have learned that you should never do anything too much. Because in the end, you are the one that is going to get harmed back. No matter what you do, never do anything too much. Don't love too much, because you will be taken advantage of. Don't hate too much, because you will be filled with guilt. Don't cry too much because there is nothing you can do about what you are crying over. Don't lie too much, because it will be a burden on your back."
Namjoon sighed and turned his whole body, facing Jin. "How did you learn this?" Joon asked again. "Through the painful memories with the ones I loved the most. I loved my siblings so much that, the day I got betrayed, I just died at that moment with pain absorbing me in its dark abyss. But even generally, if we overdo anything, we are the ones that get affected by it."
Namjoon's eyes softened. "You have seen life, haven't you?" "I haven't seen life, I have experienced almost every bit of it. Most of them were the negative ones. Life is very brutal on the inside, Hyung. It keeps trying to break us down and it's our job to not satisfy its desires. Once in a while, it gives us some good moments to make us keep going and playing its game." Joon was surprised at how negative the younger one was being. I mean, he didn't mind it, but he never heard him say it in this way.
"I've never heard you being so negative." "I am not being negative, I am just being practical. Anyways, let's sleep, you must be tired. It will take you a while to sleep because your body might not be used to this world. But I am sure you will get used to it." Namjoon nodded his head and closed his eyes. "Oh! I forgot to tell you!" Joon opened his eyes back again. "What now?" "The Night of Shadows is going to happen next week on Friday. So just mentally prepare yourself." "Ok, now, goodnight" "Goodnight" TSoon after, they both tried to fall asleep.
For the first few days, Jin brought his best friend to many different parts of the city that they were living in, Ellumirous. And they did many various things that they couldn't do when they were on earth. They went to numerous orchestras, opera houses, art museums and more. Then they even went scuba diving in the ghost ocean with aquatic animals that are currently extinct in the human world. Namjoon swore that he will never go diving again because he got scared of all the fishes that were swimming around him and coming close to him. But overall, they had a lot of fun in the ghost world.
Now Jin and Joon were mentally preparing themselves for the party, Night of Shadows, that was going to happen tomorrow. They were discussing what they would do when they first enter, what they should wear, and how to not look like frantic bitches that were in a hurry to find something. They both didn't like going to parties unless there was good food. And Jin told that there were going to be loads of delicacies to be devoured so they planned to also take a bit of time to shove up a bit of the food in their mouth holes.
"So, it's mandatory that we wear like a cape or something. It doesn't really have to cover our underclothing but the hood HAS to cover our head. The face must be showing, though. It's all a rule." "Why is there such a specific rule?" "I don't know, maybe the king has a thing for capes." "That's the weirdest kink that I have ever heard," Joon said. Jin sighed loudly with annoyance. "Can you like NOT talk about dirty stuff even for a second?" Namjoon just giggled childishly.
Jin then started speaking again after shaking his head at the elder's childishness. "But no seriously, though. We are going to get out of there right after getting the spells and...eating the food." Namjoon aggressively nodded his head. Did they forget that they could eat amazing rich ass food in the same place that they currently are in?

It was the day! The day where Namjoon and Jin will go in the humongous palace of King of Night and find where the hell that stupid room is. The two stood inside the enormous walk-in closet and looked at 12 suits. These idiots still hadn't decided what they would wear until this very moment. All the outfits looked so good that they didn't know which one to pick.
"You know what? I've had enough. Close your eyes, I will shuffle the suits then you choose a number and that's what you will be wearing." Jin said in frustration of not being able to pick an outfit as he made his way towards the long closet island. Namjoon nodded his head in agreement and then closed his eyes. Jin quickly shuffled the clothes around. "Ok, now pick a number between 1 to 12," He said. "7" Jin held up the 7th suit that was in the row. "Open your eyes."
Namjoon's eyes opened and were met with a black glorious suit with hints of blood red. Namjoon smiled. "This is nice. Now we can top this with a matching red cape. Not bad at all! Also, to save your time, maybe you can wear a suit like this as well but in a blue version. It will even make us have slightly matching outfits!" Namjoon exclaimed. Jin was satisfied with the whole idea except for one bit. "Uh, so I will wear blue?" He seemed to be slightly nervous. "I thought you liked blue. Well, if you are not comfortable then I can wear the blue." "Thank you very much!" Jin immediately took the red suit and picked out a crimson red and royal looking cape. He then ran to the bathroom to change.
They were now currently getting themselves styled up by a few bots that they ordered to get their make-up and hair done. They both sat in front of the huge mirror with a few bots surrounding them while styling them up. There were no words spoken until Namjoon uttered a few or more words.
"Bro, since my curiosity has been killing me, can you kindly tell me who is the love interest of the King of The Night?" Namjoon begged. Jin sighed and made an annoyed face. "Do I really have to tell you?" "Yes! Or else you will turn into a pig in your next life." Jin scoffed at the sentence. "No I won't" "I don't care if you actually become one or not. Just tell me already!" Namjoon whined.
Jin sighed loudly and looked down on his lap. "The love interest of the King of the Night is..." Jin hesitated really badly before finally saying it. "M-me" Everything stopped. Namjoon's brain stopped working. His eyes stopped blinking, his lungs stopped breathing, and his heart nearly stopped beating. For some reason, he felt something hit him, hit him right in the heart. His guts were going weird and he had a burning rage inside him. It was not for Jin, but someone else. Was he...feeling jealous?
"Hyung?" Jin snapped him out of his thoughts. Namjoon blinked for a few seconds before clearing his throat. "Uh, umm, well...so do you like him?" "What?! No!! I have already told you, I absolutely detest him! He is full of sins." "B-But...what if he was a nice person who wasn't so bad or what if he becomes nice for you? Will you like him then?" Namjoon really wanted this question answered. He was feeling desperate and nervous. Though, he didn't know why. "No, I still wouldn't like him back. He is just not my type. I rather be with someone that I actually love more than anything." Relief washed over Namjoon's face.
"Why would you ask that, though?" "Well...I just wanted to know, I guess." He said nervously and then started speaking anyway. "Anyways, tell me how you met him or why exactly he is so obsessed with you?" "So you see, usually when you die, in the registration office, they tell you your history if you had a past life. Like a life before the one that you just had. Depending on your essence they will either tell you about what you used to be or show you all the big parts of your past life through some special sessions or something.
So in my past life, I used to be a patriotic soldier that fought for peace. I went to war to protect my people and fight against those bad people. I saw that I never killed people who didn't deserve it. I was very hardworking and pure. I even had a happy family that I loved consisting of a son, a daughter, and obviously my wife. Unfortunately, she died when a shooting was happening. Though, that was what inspired me to fight against evil. Also, I am not showing off." Namjoon chuckled. "I know you're not. So what was your name back then?" "Surprisingly my surname was still Kim. Though, my full name was Kim Sang-Cheol.
One day I was walking through the forest to find some herbs to treat my sick children until I saw a wounded person lying near the waterfall. I saw that he was bleeding. It looked like he got shot near his abdominal area. He was in his military uniform so it was obvious that he was a soldier too. He was not completely unconscious but close. I wrapped a cloth around his wound and then carried him on my back to my house in my town.
There I treated him and let him rest in my house for a few days." "Were you medically trained?" "Yes, I was a medic, so that explains why. But anyway, the next day when he opened his eyes, I asked him his name and stuff like that. He was the man himself, Park Jimin. He was a fighter jet pilot. He told me that he was just coming back from a mission until there was a bombing and shooting that started happening on the military base. He said that he was extremely grateful for my help and that he would pay me back one day.
After that, I don't know how but he found all the codes of space and did all the bullshit that now makes him so damn powerful." Jin rolled his eyes.
At the palace
The luxurious car landed down in front of the huge palace. The friends got out of the car and were in awe of the beauty of this place. The palace was nothing like its owner. It shun bright with its golden-yellow hue. It had various gems sitting on top of its finial to give it a little colour pallet. And golden plating on its exterior to make it look even more majestic than it already was. The sky also just added to it. There were in total 9 moons that lined high up in the sky, shining directly on the palace. Giant twinkling stars were greeting the fellows on the ground. It seemed that the king brought extra moons and stars with him. Though, regardless, it was so beautiful.
They walked through a staircase that led to the grand gate that stood proudly in front of them with extremely creepy creatures beside it. Namjoon actually got so scared by looking at them that he slightly hid behind Jin. "What the hell are those?!" He whispered. "Those are melnas. They are the protectors of all of the properties of the King of Night. They are basically his guards and stuff. They are made out of metal and human skin, so that's why they are so weird looking, just ignore them. Also, do your best to not look like a creep because they will attack if you seem like a threat even with a slightly wrong movement.
Namjoon gulped and nodded. They were about to go through the doors until they were stopped by the melnas. "Your...names, sir?" One of the creatures said in his extremely raspy and metallic voice, almost robot-like. "Kim Namjoon and Kim Seokjin" Right after Jin said that the doors were opened for them and the two entered.
The interior was even more expensive than the exterior. "The king loves glamorous and shiny things. That's why everything he owns is full of gems or is extremely expensive. He also loves the colour blue way too much" Jin explained. Their heads were covered with the hood of their cape and so was everyones'.
There were a lot of people there. It seemed like they were all having a fun time. It all seemed pretty magical. I mean...it WAS actually magical, but yeah. As they looked around, Jin started feeling weird. He felt as if someone was watching him, watching every single one of his and Namjoon's movements. Namjoon noticed the unpleasant expression on his dear friend's face.
"Jin? What's wrong?" "Hyung...I feel like somebody's...watching me." Namjoon laughed. "It seems like this time YOU watched too many movies." This was not enough to convince Jin. The taller shook his head. "No, Hyung, my guts don't lie. I seriously feel like someone is watching us, and is not a good way." They both looked around themselves but noticed nothing out of the ordinary. Perhaps it really WAS just due to watching too many movies.
"Maybe you are too focused on finding the room that you are getting paranoid. So, why not we go and eat something delicious food?" Namjoon said, pointing towards the area that was full of snacks and expensive treats.
I'm aware that the word 'night' keeps appearing in the names of many chapters. But well...night is a very important thing in this book and in the theory of this dimension, so even if I sometimes don't like it...I just put-
I'm sorry if it gets annoying ok ;-;
