Hiding it
Still having a few tears run down his cheeks Mikey hurriedly made his way to his room and shut himself in. He grabbed his pillow and sat on his bed stuffing half of his face in it. He was still crying silent tears and tried wiping them away.
'Why won't they stop coming?' Mikey thought. He tried remembering what Donnie had told him a long time ago. Was it bad to hold it in, or were you supposed to let it all out before it stops? Not feeling like it, Mikey took a deep breath and held it a bit, then let it go but it didn't do a thing.
Mikey decided to try and get so sleep before morning training and lied down hugging his pillow. Being tired from crying and having many dark thoughts swarming through his head, Mikey almost instantly fell asleep.
~~~*~~~
Mikey awoke to the alarm clock on his night stand drumming in his ears.
"Go away..." He muttered burying his head underneath his pillow. His alarm clock didn't seem to listen though and it wasn't long before Mikey couldn't take the sound any longer. Making an annoyed sound he wiped his alarm clock of the nightstand with his left hand making it fall to the ground and stop.
Slowly Mikey lifted himself up. Once standing, he stretched and yawned. It was way too early for his liking. He only had a couple hours of sleep seeing how late he got home yesterday.
Silently he made his way to the kitchen to make breakfast for everyone. He wondered if they ever noticed how he was always up the earliest to cook breakfast for them.
After cooking some basic breakfast with toast and eggs, he put everything on separate plates and put them down. He looked at his own plate. Sure, he was hungry but didn't feel like eating it at all. Somehow, that feeling of a lump in his throat hadn't gone away, still making it a bit harder to breath.
He glanced around to see no one was looking before dumping everything off his plate and into the trash. He sighed before making his way to the dojo to start with some stretches while thinking. Last night repeated in his head and he frowned a bit. Stopping midway in his arm stretches lost in his thoughts he didn't notice the way his brothers entered the dojo.
His brothers were a bit surprised to see their breakfast but not their little brother. Seeing Mikey just staring at the wall with a small frown on his face Raph decided to snap him out of his thoughts.
"Mikey?" Raph said walking up to him and waving his hand in front of Mikey's face. Mikey blinked a couple of times and looked at Raph.
"You okay there up in your own head?" Raph asked a bit annoyed as always. Mikey could've said he was thinking about last night. He could've said he wanted to apologize about it, but decided to go against it. Maybe they'd forget sooner if he didn't mention it again. Instead he grinned and laughed.
"Hi Raphie! What got you so round up?" Mikey said already ducking beforehand as to not get hit by an growling Raph.
'I wonder why he hates that nickname so much...' Mikey thought a bit sad by that fact his brother tried to tackle him, but wouldn't let it show on his face. It was at this point that Master Splinter decided to walk into the dojo and everyone hastily sat down.
"Today, we will do one on one sparring and then meditate. Donatello against Michelangelo, Leonardo against Raphael." He said and everyone got into their positions. Raph was already smiling cheekily at Leo spinning his sai's in his hands. Leo was concentrating and thinking about the forms of attacks. Donnie was strategizing about what he should do with every possible move Mikey would make. And Mikey... Strangely enough Mikey wasn't doing anything. He was staring at his opponent looking concentrated while he was actually already zoned out.
Receiving a frown and a bit confused look from Donnie, Mikey snapped out of his a bit darker thoughts then usual again and made a funny face sticking out his tongue. This annoyed Donnie quite a bit and he sighed deeply.
"Begin!" Master Splinter ordered once he saw everyone was ready.
(AN: WARNING: I HAVE NEVER WRITTEN AN ACTION OR FIGHT SCENE EVER IN MY LIFE SO THIS IS GONNA SUCK REALLY BAD)
Donnie charged at Mikey and decided to swing his bō staff at Mikey from below. Mikey decided to dodge the attack that otherwise would've hit his chin by jumping back a bit. He then dodged a swing from Donnie's staff to his side and decided to try and kick him by sliding his foot over the ground and making a spin. Donnie jumped up just in time to not get knocked over and poked his staff forward again. Mikey dodged again by jumping backwards.
'This is strange... He hasn't even tried to do something like a backflip or show off and appears to be concentrated.' Donnie thought frowning while he dodged a few kicks and punches Mikey was throwing at him. The truth was, Mikey was halfway focusing and halfway not. It wasn't that he had many thoughts to think about, in fact, everything in his mind seemed to be going blank. So in a way, he was concentrating.
Noticing the way Donnie frowned at him a bit confused did make him think though. Mikey was throwing a right punch from below shooting forward after dodging another swing from the staff. Mikey's eyes widened a little bit in surprise, before realizing why Donnie was confused. He simply hadn't made any backflips or anything because he only got a couple hours of sleep and didn't feel like it. He didn't really want to be questioned about it either, because that would mean they'd might stay mad longer about last time so he decided to stop going the way he was.
Donnie was only able to just dodge the punch by moving his head to the left and quickly ducked afterwards to try and hit Mikey in the back. Just before he could though Mikey landed and made a quick flip forward to not get hit. Mikey turned around to face him and looked for a second before grinning as if thinking about doing so first.
"Come on Donnie! You're getting out of shape, you should do some cardio!" Mikey laughed. Donnie didn't notice through his annoyance, Leo and Raph who had already stopped sparing a while ago and were watching didn't notice, but their Sensei did. He thought he sensed something a bit off, but decided to not say anything.
Mikey didn't want this fight to go on much longer. You wouldn't be able to see it from the outside, but he was getting really tired. He hadn't even used his nunchucks yet but still, they had been going on pretty long. He let out a small sigh while still maintaining his smile and decided to just end the battle himself. He charged at Donnie trying to hit him with a punch from below diving forward on one leg again. Donnie saw it coming and was able to dodge it faster than before and once again turned around to hit Mikey with his staff. Mikey knew this, but decided to spin around a bit slower than before letting Donnie hit him with his staff. Mikey fell to the floor ending the fight.
"Yame!" Master Splinter said while Mikey stood up and walked back to the others with Donnie.
"You guys went on pretty long." Raph said catching Donnie's attention who then frowned a bit and thought back.
"Yeah... About that, that wasn't really like you Mikey." Donnie said looking at Mikey as if checking it was actually him.
"Woah, dude relax!" Mikey said laughing a little again while thinking of a excuse. "I was just a bit zoned out that's all!" He explained thinking that would be the last of it.
"Why were you zoned out? And if you were zoned out wouldn't that have made you less concentrated?" Donnie asked raising an invisible eyebrow trying to figure out his little brother.
'Dangit, didn't expect them to dive into that one. Still, I don't want them to know I was up crying! I'll never hear the end of it! Mikey thought panicking a bit inside.
"My sons, if you will all sit down, we can begin with meditation!" Splinter said catching their attention. Mikey silently thanked his sensei in his head and then went to sit down opposite of Leo with Donnie on his right and Raph opposite of him.
"Try to travel to the most inner part of your thoughts. In a mind, every thought should be able to roam freely. Sometimes however, parts of your thoughts get blocked and consumed. Today we will see if we are able to look inside of our minds." Splinter finished sitting down himself and closing his eyes.
Mikey closed his eyes. Look for the most inner part of your thoughts... He blocked out everything from around him one by one. First the sounds, then the feeling of the floor beneath him and everything else. He concentrated and listened closely. Suddenly it felt as if he was floating somewhere else. He opened his eyes to not see the dojo, but to see a floor of white and black squares.
He looked in front of him but couldn't see the walls anywhere. His feet felt like he floated just a little bit barely touching the ground.
"Hello?" He asked hesitantly, his voice leaving a small echo around him. He slowly spun around to still see no walls or door around him. Mikey was surprised to see something else though and it was something he had never seen before.
In what appeared to be the middle of the room, was bright warm glowing light coming of a orange colored round orb Mikey didn't know what to call. He carefully walked to it, and immediately this warm feeling of happiness filled him and he couldn't help but smile.
He carefully placed his hands underneath it to hold it a bit closer, before noticing something else. Frowning, Mikey squinted his eyes to look to the bottom edge of the light orb. There was a small piece of black, which didn't emit any light. Somehow looking at it made him feel sad and depressed.
"What is this thing?" Mikey thought out loud. He shot a few glances around him to see if there was anything else but found nothing. He looked back at the shining orb before a thought hit him.
"Wait a minute! How do I get back to the dojo?" He asked freaking out about the fact that he might have been able to go to his inner mind, but didn't have a way back. He looked up and around still holding the orb trying to think of a way out before he heard something.
"Mikey!"
"Wait, is that... Leo?" But before Mikey could find out which direction the voice came from everything around him faded to black and he felt his senses returning to him. He opened his eyes to see the blurry floor.
"Mikey!" Someone said sounding as if he yelled it right in his ear this time making Mikey yelp and fall sideways seeing Leo still kneeling beside the place he sat before and looking at him a bit concerned.
"Oh, uh, hey Leo... Didn't see you there!" Mikey tried to get out of the awkward situation while sitting up again. He then noticed everyone staring at him either concerned or raising an eyebrow. Mikey didn't like the feeling of being stared at so he decided to break the silence.
"Uhm... Did I miss something?" He asked looking around.
"We were all done meditating but you just wouldn't snap out of it... Are you okay?" Leo asked sounding really concerned. His brother was never the type to meditate, let alone get into it. Mikey was still a bit surprised by what he had seen in his mind but decided to smile and stand up quickly.
"Sure dude! I was just... thinking about which new video game I'm gonna get! So training is over right?" Mikey said in his upbeat voice. Raph grunted annoyed.
"If that was all then you should've just responded you idiot!" He said angry that Mikey was wasting their time.
"Hehe! Sorry Raphie!" Mikey said earning a growl from Raph. "But since training's over I'll be going now bye dudes!" Mikey said smiling before quickly walking out of the dojo.
"Mikey wait-" Leo reached out but Mikey had already closed the door of the dojo. As soon as he was outside he let his smile drop. He didn't know what that thing he saw was, but he was going to find out.
There might not be much going on in this chapter, but I just invited another thing that will be a big part of this story. Next chapter will get sadder I swear, so just be prepared for that! XP Wouldn't want Mikey staying happy for too long now would we? (Just kidding he's my favorite character!)
