Chapter Nine - Break Up
The blondes body began waking up. But, she felt... weird. Like something was really close to her. Her eyes slowly and carefully opened to see black, not like she's blind, just black clothes. She swallowed and looked up. The person who was there surprised her. Natsu was sleeping peacefully, so Lucy turned around in hope to get out of bed. Just as she successfully turned her back to him, an arm wrapped around her waist and pulled her closer to his body.
Shit. The blonde cursed in her head. She knew there was no point in trying to get out if his grasp. She knew how he was, so she didn't even try to fight it.
She hugged the pillow close to her face and tried to fall back asleep.
- later -
Lucy's eyes opened once again, but this time, there was no dragon slayer in sight. She sat from laying position and looked around.
She began putting her shoes on when the doctor walked in. Soon enough, their eyes met.
"Good morning, miss Heartfilia," he spoke with a patient board in his hands. He looked like he was having trouble with saying something out loud.
"Good morning, is there something wrong, doctor?" Lucy questioned as some kind of anxiety grew inside her. She was nervously fidgeting her fingers under the covers.
"Yes, there is.." he said with a certain tone Lucy couldn't really understand. Was he sad? Was he feeling uneasy? Uncomfortable? She didn't know.
- with Natsu -
"Hey.. long time no see," he said while walking towards Lisanna. She called him saying she had to tell him something very important. Natsu wasn't really surprised, they didn't see each other in almost two weeks.
"Hey.. would you like to go to the near coffee shop? We can talk there.." she said through a whisper. Natsu nodded.
~
Natsu and Lisanna sat at the table which was the closest to the window, she always preferred looking outside then directly at people. Natsu understood and respected her choice, since it didn't matter to him at all.
"So, what did you wanna talk about?" Natsu asked and took a sip from his coffee. Lisanna looked hesitantly at him and gripped a bit tighter on her drink.
"I just.. uh.."
"Yes?"
"Uhh.."
"Well..?" He was getting a bit annoyed at this point.
"..."
"I'm not trying to be rude or anything, but I need to go back to Luce, so could you hurry up a bit..?" Natsu really meant what he said, he didn't want to be rude at all, it was just that he left Lucy alone a while ago and he began worrying.
"Always her.." Lisanna whispered under her breath, earning a glare from Natsu.
"Excuse me, what?"
"It's always her. Have you ever stopped to worry about me, your actual girlfriend?!" She slightly yelled as Natsu narrowed his eyebrows.
"I thought we finished this argument, you said that you understand and you'll let me take care of her for now! It's not that I don't worry about you, but my best friend tried to kill herself because she was so miserable in this world. She deserves every bit of my attention!" He defended, Lisanna's eyes widened while she almost broke the glass in her hand.
"Did it ever occur to you that she did it for attention, huh?!" That was the final straw.
"You have the audacity to talk about Luce this way? You don't know anything about her life. You can't even imagine all the pain she went through! If you ever knew her, you would know how much she hated attention. She took so much of those pills that it was almost impossible to save her, she wanted to make sure not to fail. When I saw that mess around her, I don't know which thing I wanted to do more, scream or cry. She took so much of them that she has problems with everything inside of her body now! She'll never get rid of them, do you understand?! Don't you dare disrespect her ever again, Lisanna." Natsu shouted and began walking out from the coffee shop, he ignored all people staring at him and said his last words to her.
"We're over."
Lisanna was left there staring at her drink with wide eyes, her hands trembled as she gritted her teeth. She noticed a drop falling in her coffee so she put her fingertips on her face and it was wet. She was crying.
- to Lucy -
Lucy stared at the doctor while he looked at the floor under him.
"First of, how are you feeling today?" He looked up asked with a tiny smile.
"I-I'm good, it still burns, but that's nothing compared to before." She reassuringly said.
"That's good.. the reason why I came here was because we discovered some news about your health.."
"Y-Yeah? What news?" She said while hiding her hands.
"We did a review on you the first day, and we found something else in your system beside the pills. You might already know this, and I'm sure you've been taking care of yourself-"
- flashback-
"Miss Heartfilia, we got your diagnosis.." the young looking doctor said with an uneasy tone.
"I-Is it bad?" Lucy questioned while fidgeting with her fingers. She ended up in a hospital due to her lack of breath. The doctors examined her health, physical and mental, and they found something.
"I-It's okay, I'm okay with everything.." she spoke while looking at her fingers which lied on her thighs. Honestly she was okay with anything, she felt suicidal for quite some time and she felt relieved about the fact she might not need to kill herself.
"We found a cancer in your system, lung cancer to be exact.. I'm really sorry, miss.." he finished with disappointing facial expression.
"I-It's okay.. I.."
"You don't have to act strong, it's okay to feel surprised or even scared, it's completely normal."
"I'm sorry, I don't feel anything.."
"That's normal as well, you're in a state of surprise.."
"Sure.."
- end -
"Just say it." Lucy commanded with cold eyes. She was done with all pathetic looks people continued giving her.
"We know about your lungs cancer." The doctor said and in spare moment, he heard something fall to the floor. Both Lucy and he turned to find someone at the entrance of the room.
"Her w-what..?"
