About that drought

I watched as Nico unwrapped his first present, which was from his mom. He was going to be so excited when he sees what I got him.
Nico gasped, "Its a phone!"
I grinned. "Wait..." he said. "I....I don't know how to work a phone...."
"I'll show you."
When I finished showing him all the buttons were, he asked what the Notes app was.
I explained it and he tapped on it. I watched as his face lit up. There was a message from his parents, which he hadn't seen yet.
"Mom!"
It was beautiful. He was dressed in a new Christmas sweater I had bought him, and with the tree behind him and him looking so happy, it was a extremely pretty scene.
Plus Nico was already beautiful. Especially with his tail swishing around behind him and his ears straight up.
He talked with his parents for a bit and then decided a time to actually meet them. He was going to see them next Tuesday. I was excited for him.
Half an hour after he opened his mom's gift he opened mine, a laptop.
I had already done some things to it. I decorated the outside to say: The Ghost King in Harry Potter letters, and I put special computer stickers on it. He ran his fingers over it.
"Thank you," he said. But he hadn't even gotten to the best part yet.
I told him the password (ghostking) and username (nicotheneko) and he gasped.
I had put together a slideshow of pictures that he would see when he logged on. It was a lot of work, but it was worth it. He watched as each picture flashed across the screen.
"Oh my gods...." he whispered.
When the last picture had made its way across, he slowly turned to me.
"If you ever want to watch it again, you can click that button and it'll replay it. Do you like it?"
"I don't like it." He said.
Oh....I thought he would....
"I LOVE IT!" He pounced, giving me a hug.
I laughed, "You scared me for a minute there."
"Oh, Will, how could have possibly have known so well what I wanted?"
"Well, you missed out on most of your life so I put that together to try to help."
"Thank you so much! This is the best Christmas ever!"
I smiled as he hugged me.
He opened everyone else's gift (plus my other one, which was a sketch pad).
When he got to hazel's gift, he was extra excited.
It was a skull ring and a mythomagic figure. They seemed to mean a lot to him.
He looked to me, "Bianca gave me these, but then we were taken. They remind me of her, because they were the last things she gave me."
I nodded. "That's so nice of you, Hazel!"
Nico thanked her about a million times. "I love them so much!"
Soon, after I opened my presents, it was dinner. We hadn't had a big lunch, because we were having a Christmas feast. I invited all my friends.
There was only one problem with this feast.
My dad was going to be there. It was going to be my first time seeing him since I was made king, and I wasn't looking forward to it.
"C'mon, guys! We're going to have a feast for dinner."
They all followed me into the dining hall, where my dad was already sitting. Nico tensed beside me.
"Will...." he whispered.
"I know, Nico. I didn't want him here. I'm sorry." I whispered back.
Nico nodded shakily. He sat down beside me. Jason was on the other side, and Reyna was across from him.
We started eating but my dad stood up. I think he was angry.
"William, why is he here?"
"I invited my friends."
"Yes, I see that, but what about the neko?"
"He's my...."
"What? He's your what?"
"Boyfriend."
"WILLIAM! You know you aren't allowed to have a boyfriend! There is no such thing as a gay king!"
"Father, I can't keep fighting you about this. He is my boyfriend whether you allow it or not."
"I will not give up! I will not give in to a gay son!"
"Apollo-" Nico said quietly.
"Don't speak unless commanded to do so!" My father slammed his fist down on the table.
"Father, there is a law. You can't mistreat him, or any nekos."
"I don't care! I will speak out about what I believe in!"
I wanted to get the guards to take him to the dungeons, but I looked at Nico and he shook his head.
But now I wish I had called for guards.
My dad lunged for Nico, his hands aimed for his throat. Nico yelped. Jason and Reyna stood up to help, but I was quicker.
"GUARDS!" I yelled, jumping in front of Nico.
The guards dragged my dad away. I looked back at Nico. His eyes were closed and he was trembling. Tears were flowing down his cheeks. His ears were back and his tail was motionless.
"I'm so, so sorry, Nico!"
He opened his eyes and I saw fear in them, so I gave him a hug. He relaxed a bit.
He cried into my shoulder.
"Shhh, it's okay. It'll all be okay."
"I-I'm sorry! You shouldn't have to put up with me...."
"No, Nico, it's okay! It's my dad's fault. He attacked you! It's not your fault."
He was calming down now, so I pulled away. We sat back down. Reyna tried to start a conversation.
"So....umm....I heard that....uh...." she couldn't think of anything.
"You mean, you heard about the drought? Yeah. I heard about that too." Piper said quickly. Nico sent her a grateful look.
"Uh, yeah! There are wildfires all over the place." Reyna said.
"Yeah. I hope no one gets hurt...." Annabeth said.
"Yeah. About that, I think we're supposed to get rain on Wednesday. The day after Nico visits his parents."
"Yeah! And then the next day is the new year! This year has gone by so fast!"
"Don't remind me. It's going to be a whole new year!"
Leo started singing 'A Whole New World' from The Little Mermaid.
Piper gave him a playful punch.
"I kind of forgot about that...."
Nico was furiously trying to get rid of the tear stains on his cheeks.
"I can't wait for the new year. This one has been stressful." Nico said quietly.
Okay I have some plans ahead so I'm trying to show a bit of happy solangelo before chaos.
