Chapter Twenty-Six
HARRY'S POV
SOME OF THE GUYS from the football team were hanging out in the Quad, throwing the football back and forth in the sun. Winter was beginning to creep up on Silver Springs, so we wanted to enjoy as much of the warm weather as we could before it got colder. Matthew, Ethan, and I were chilling by the fountain and talking about our upcoming away game when I spotted Florence at the entrance of the school.
I assumed she was headed to lunch on her own but stood corrected when I saw her heading towards the direction of the fountain instead of the parking lot. The closer Florence got, the clearer the expression on her face became, and by the looks of it she seemed upset.
Never have I ever been left on read by a woman until I met the delivery girl. The only reason I could think of why she'd do that to me is because I didn't give her an invitation to the ball. I didn't see the point of doing so when I knew her father's restaurant was going to be catering the event, which is also why I didn't bother correcting Matthew when he said what he said.
Shït. She's probably going to tell me off in front of the boys and say how she doesn't want anything to do with me anymore.
Matthew was the first one who noticed my face had contorted into a frown but by the time he pointed it out, Florence was already standing in front of us. His light brown eyes trailed over her figure, and he cocked his head in her direction.
"What do you want?" He asked her incredulously.
Florence either didn't hear his question or chose to completely ignore him because her doe brown eyes were locked on my green ones the entire time. She gave me that look my mum would give me whenever I was in some deep shït.
"I need to talk to you for a minute Harry," She said while crossing her arms.
I gulped down my nerves and nodded my head. Rising from the edge of the fountain, I turned around, looked at the guys and said, "I'll be back in a couple of minutes."
"Be careful around her man. We don't want you catching anything," Matthew called out to me, but I pretended like I didn't hear him and followed Florence as she walked past the benches.
He was starting to get on my nerves anyway.
The two of us walked away from the Quad and headed towards the school parking lot. I wanted so badly to reach out and grab her hand, but I doubt she would have accepted the gesture given how mad she looked when she approached me and the boys. When we reached the parking lot, Florence abruptly turned around to face me. Instead of wearing her usual smile, she was frowning, and I hated that I was the reason why.
"Are you embarrassed to be around me Harry?" Florence asked with her eyes concentrated on my face.
I rolled my eyes and shook my head. "Of course not. Where is this even coming from?" I questioned her back, crossing my arms over my chest.
A scoff expelled from her pouted lips, and she narrowed her eyes at me. "Hmm, let me think. Well, at the Halloween party you took me to, you jumped away from my touch like I was some stranger in front of Alice. You hardly acknowledge me in public or stick up for me when your friend Matthew is being an asshat. I mean, tell me what I'm supposed think about all of this, Harry," She huffed before taking a deep breath to calm down.
I stole a quick glance from over my shoulder before taking Florence's hand and walking further into the parking lot. She didn't protest my actions but didn't thread her fingers through my hand like I wanted her to. I stopped walking when we were farther out of sight and set her against someone's van. Her breath hitched in her throat when her back came into contact with the car door, and she flicked her eyes up to me.
I hesitantly reached up to cup her cheeks with my hands and rested my forehead on hers. "I'm not embarrassed of you Florence. I was just trying to stick to our arrangement. That's all," I promised her. She leaned her cheek against my hand and shut her eyes with a sigh. "I really do like you and don't want to involve everyone else in our business. I want it to be just us."
My last sentence caused her eyes to flutter open. She stared at me almost in disbelief which made me smile. I caressed her cheekbone with my thumb and placed a kiss on the top of her head. "Are we okay?"
Florence opened and closed her mouth before sighing and nodding her head. "Yeah, I'm sorry. I don't know what I was thinking. I guess I never fully got over what happened before Thanksgiving break."
I nodded my head knowingly. I figured that was why she had been acting strange towards me but didn't want to make any assumptions. "You know I didn't give you an invitation because I knew you were going to be catering, right?" I asked her to make sure she knew.
"Yeah, I figured," She nodded her head before biting her bottom lip. "I just wished you would have said something when Matthew made that comment about the help not getting invitations. It was demeaning."
"You're right. I'm sorry," I apologized. "Matthew can be a huge douche sometimes, but he's not all that bad once you get to know him. I'll make this up to you somehow though," I assured her, causing a small smile to form over her lips.
"You better," Florence warned while poking my chest with her index finger.
I laughed at the small gesture and took a step back, letting my hands drop from her cheeks and rest on her hips. "Are you doing anything this Friday night?" I inquired, trying to contain my smile.
"Working, why?" She asked, looking at me skeptically.
I casually shrugged in my attempt to mask my slight disappointment. "I was just going to invite you to an away game, but I understand if you have to work," I told her.
Florence pouted and stood up on her toes to press a kiss to my jaw. Her action caused a dimple to pop out in my right cheek before the one in my left cheek appeared.
"I'd go if I didn't have to work. You know how much I love football," She reminded me with a playful nudge to my side.
I nodded my head as my smile grew wider. "I know. So we're okay, right?" I asked one final time just to be sure.
"Yes, Harry. We're okay," Florence confirmed with a smile of her own.
I silently thanked the Lord and pressed a soft kiss to her lips. I let my lips linger on hers for a few seconds before I pulled away, purposely making the kiss short to leave her wanting more later. "Great, I better get back to the boys. I'll catch you later though."
"Looking forward to it," She said as we walked out of the parking lot together.
I watched her head back towards the school as I walked over to the boys who were still hanging out by the fountain. Matthew was mindlessly tossing a football up into the air and catching it before he spotted me. I tried to keep a neutral expression on my face so that the boys wouldn't suspect anything even though I was internally bursting with excitement.
"Hey, what did the delivery girl want?" Matthew asked me once I was back to sitting on the edge of the fountain.
I shrugged and told them the first lie that came to mind. "She was mad that I copied off her homework in Calculus and basically told me not to do it again," I explained.
Matthew and the rest of the boys chuckled at my answer and shook their heads at me. "I don't blame you, bro. I'm barely passing maths myself," One of the linebackers told me.
I nodded my head with a small smile and glanced up at the clouds in the sky. This encounter went a lot better than I expected it to, but I had a feeling that the next time something like this happened, I wouldn't be so lucky.
Author's Note:
Hey everyone. I hope you've been having a nice week so far. It's been a decent one for me mainly because of Harry and his music. I'm so happy he confirmed he will be doing a solo tour. I definitely can't wait for that.
Just a heads up, the month of May will be very hectic for me since that's when my AP Tests are (May 11 & May 18). My main priority will be studying and listening to Harry's album, so updates may be extra slow. However, I'll try my hardest to continue updating once a week but don't be surprised if updates are more like once every two weeks.

Question for my readers: When was the last time you were in some "deep shït" with your parents?
My dad has literally changed his credit card four times in the last year partially because of me. I love to order food on Seamless and when I don't tell him I do sometimes his security check company thinks someone is trying to steal his card because he lives in Maryland and I live in New York and they freeze his account. Thankfully, he doesn't hold a grudge, but he got very mad at me when it happened.
