Chapter Forty-Two
MATTHEW'S POV
MY CONVERSATION WITH ALICE left me infuriated to no end. Harry and the delivery girl together? I couldn't believe she would even imply such a thing. She's got balls, I'll give her that.
Coach made us warm up by doing two laps around the field and three sets of twenty push-ups. I kept my eyes on Harry the entire time as he lead the workouts, trying to spot any notable difference in him. He looked like the same guy he was when he first stepped foot on the field sophomore year–except he stood taller and more confident.
When the players broke off to complete different drills on the field, Harry pulled me and Andy aside so we could practice catching his long range throws.
"Are you ready for the championships" I asked Harry as I handed the ball to Andy after catching it.
Andy tossed the ball to Harry with a smile, and we stood next to each other waiting for him to throw it again. I've been catching most of the balls Harry has thrown but decided that I'd let Andy go for the next few ones since he needed the practice more than I did.
Harry nodded his head while running his tongue along his lips. "Yeah, but we still have a few more games until we find out if we made it to the final round or not," He reminded me before moving his arm back and launching the football in our direction.
My natural inclination was to go after it, but I stopped myself before I could. "It's yours!" I shouted to Andy, moving out the way to give him some space.
He acted quickly and raced to catch the ball. Harry and I both sighed in relief when Andy caught the ball and hugged it against his chest. Since our multiple practices, we haven't had a repeat of what happened during the homecoming game. Andy wore a proud smile on his face when he tossed the ball back to Harry. Being successful in his first attempt gave him the confidence to pursue the ball more aggressively. By the end of practice, Harry was more certain that he could rely on Andy to deliver us a touchdown if he were to throw him the ball during our game.
The two of us walked back to the boys locker room once coach dismissed us from practice to shower and change. After we finished getting dressed, I slung my duffle bag over my shoulder and waited for Harry by the door.
"Hey, do you want to come over to my house and play COD Black Ops 2?" I asked Harry when he finally joined me in the hallway. "I just got it on the PlayStation 4."
"As tempting as that sounds, I'm going to have to pass," Harry declined with a frown while glancing at his phone. "I'm swimming up to my neck with work, and my mum told me she'd have the coach bench me if I don't get my grades up."
I nodded my head and patted Harry on his back. "I understand bro," I assured him. "You're our star player so grades should be your top priority right now."
"Yeah, I gotta go, but I'll catch you later mate!" He told me before bolting towards the school exit.
My eyebrows furrowed at his behavior just then. I stood there in the hallway wondering why he was in such a rush. Surely, no one is that eager to get started on a homework assignment. I shook my head with a sigh and walked towards the school exit too, pushing through the double doors to get to the school parking lot.

Instead of going straight home to play Black Ops 2 like I planned, I was in my car following Harry, trying to be as subtly as possible. I became curious when he didn't take his usual turn out of the parking lot to get to his house and started my car as fast a I could, so I'd be able to follow him and see where he was going. Alice's words kept creeping into the front of my mind while I was driving on the road.
I bet the first place Harry will go to after football practice is her house.
If Harry is swimming up to his neck in homework like he said he was, I don't know why he is traveling anywhere but home. Maybe, he's going to the library.
I laughed out loud as soon as the thought entered my mind. The words Harry and library simply do not belong together in the same sentence. I eyed the white Mercedes Benz in front of me carefully once it made a right turn on Fenton street. I waited a few moments before doing the same thing and stopping my car at the end of the corner.
Harry drove his car into the empty driveway of one of the townhouses and parked the vehicle before stepping outside. I set my car in park and got out as well, ducking behind the bushes. I was preparing myself to confront Harry and ask him what the hell he was doing here. However, before I could, I looked up to see him knock on the owner of the house's front door and be greeted by none other than the delivery girl seconds later.
Harry had the widest grin on his face when Florence stood up on the tips of her toes just to give him a kiss on the lips. My jaw went slack at the sight. I couldn't believe what I was seeing with my own two eyes.
I saw Harry wrap his arms around her body and guide Florence back inside of her house without breaking their kiss. I stood up from my crouched position behind the bushes when the front door closed with a shocked expression on my face. I couldn't believe Alice was fücking right I thought to myself while shaking my head from side to side.
I didn't know how much good it would do for me to knock on Florence's door and catch Harry and her together in the act especially since it looked like they didn't see me. I released a deep breath and decided that I'd confront him about it after our away game tomorrow. I got back inside of my car and continued driving down Fenton street until I could make a u-turn and head home.
Confusion and betrayal were the only words I could use to describe how I felt in that moment.
