Chapter 47: Kirishima
Izuku lifted his head groggily from the paper covered desk. Awoken by a slight knock at the door, he sat up slowly, calling the expected visitor in. He sat upright in his chair, yawning as Toga entered the room. "Heya! I brought Eri!"
Behind Toga, hands clasped nervously, Eri came into view. Her hair was braided into two plaits, keeping her hair out her face. "Who did her hair?"
"It was me! Don't worry, I made sure to be careful and didn't touch her."
"Okay then." Izuku hopped out of his seat, crouching down before Eri. Timidly, she approached him, her feet dragging as she took her steps. Her horn seemed to be slightly bigger, protruding outwards a few inches. Izuku presumed it had something to do with her quirk, due to the lack of any other explanation.
"You ready to go?"
Eri nodded, taking Izukus hand as he waved to Toga. "I'm leaving Compress in charge for today. I'll be back in a few hours."
"Wait, where are you going?"
"Don't worry, I'll tell you later!"
Izuku left the office, child in hand, leading her through the winding corridors, purposely avoiding Chisaki's direction. Apparently, Overhaul had been collaborating with Compress, developing a gas that could weaken quirks, using the excess DNA from Eri. The drugs were also effective, which he had seen first hand in the black market. Either way, he was hoping to use both of the concoctions to weaken the heroes before he struck.
Of course, the tests weren't just about seeing the effect of the gas, but also seeing how much damage they could cause. A few days ago, he had sent Dabi to neutralise a hero who was also a teacher at UA. The drug was able to disable his quirk entirely, leaving him completely helpless. However, they weren't as effective on quirks specifically tied to body mutations, like animalistic quirk. Either way, after the hero was disposed of, the data went to Compress and Overhaul, so they could replicate the drug which was more effective on mutated quirks. That way they could try and bring down Nezu quickly.
This war would be one about calculation and precise moves. So, Izuku had to think ahead if they had a chance to beat them.
"Umm. Mr Izuku...?"
Izuku looked down at Eri, who had stopped in her tracks. Izuku looked forward and realised he was in front of a door. He chuckled, rubbing the back of his neck. "Sorry, lost in thought. Is something wrong?"
"What are we...doing?"
Izuku grasped the handle to the door, pushing it down and swinging it open. The pair came face to face with a large open facility, which was virtually empty. "This is where I trained with my own quirk a while ago. It became a bit unusable after my teacher left." Izuku pointed to the cracks and burns on the walls. Eri was slightly unnerved by this, tightening her grip on Izuku's hand. "This is where I'm going to help you learn how to use your own quirk."
"I...I..."
"Don't worry, it won't hurt at all."
Eri relaxed slightly, letting go of his hand and walking with him to the centre of the room. Izuku sat down, cross legged as he stared at Eri. "Okay. First, I want you to try and use your quirk."
Eri sat opposite him, hand clenched in her lap. She shook slightly, looking hesitantly at Izuku. Beads of sweat formed on her head as she recounted Chisaki's words.
Curse.
Curse.
".
I...I can't..."
Izuku sighed, lifting his hand to his mouth. He eyed Eri, noticing her standoff-ish behaviour. She stared at her lap, unable to look Izuku in the eye.
"Hmm. Okay, is there a reason why?"
"I...don't want to hurt you."
"I see..." Izuku shuffled closer, still keeping a marginal distance as to not scare the girl. "Is it because your quirk is too strong?"
Eri nodded slightly. Izuku smiled gently, grasping her hand and holding it tightly. Eri looked up to see Izuku's eyes glow slightly, as he stared at her hands intently. Eri's body began to feel heavy, almost tired as his quirk passed through her blood stream. "There."
"What...?"
"Its one of my quirks." Izuku tapped close to his eyes, pointing attention towards his glowing, green hue. "I decreased your quirks power output. It should be less strong now. Though, you may feel a little tired."
Eri looked at her hands, lifting them slightly to stare at them in awe. "Let's start small."
Izuku pulled out an apple, placing it in front of Eri. Eri looked up at Izuku in a slight confusion, unsure of what he was trying to do. Izuku smiled, taking her hands and placing them on the apple. "Try and turn that apple back into a seed."
Eri looked up in surprise. "How do I...?"
"Focus your energy on your hands. Close your eyes and concentrate. I doubt it will be easy but we can keep practicing. Don't worry if it is too hard."
Eri nodded hesitantly, shutting her eyes and concentrating on her hands. However, as soon as she did, memories of Chisaki flooded into her mind. Memories of pain, darkness and cold. She was unable to concentrate on her hands, instead her quirk flew out of control. She quivered as the burning sensation of her quirk trampled over her body.
"ERI!"
Eri snapped back, opening her eyes at the same moment her powers erupted. Her eyes glew a piercing white as her power flowed with no direction. Quickly, Izuku grabbed her hand, decreasing her power output even further. It hurt a bit, causing him to wince ever so slightly.
Eventually, he was able to calm Eri's quirk down, though it didn't help everything. Eri whispered and cried, burying her head in her hands as she quivered in fear. Izuku took tentative steps closer, befor pulling the girl into a hug, consoling her as she recovered from her episode. Izuku looked around, eyes widening slightly.
The cracks and burns had faded away, leaving a polished, smooth surface around the entire room. What was more fascinating was what happened to the apple.
A giant apple tree stood behind them, its roots grounded in the metal plates with a few exceptions poking through the iron floor. He smiled slightly, as Eri pulled away gently, profusely apologising.
"Hey Eri, look."
Izuku leaned away so Eri could see the tree. Her eyes wide in shock as Izuku stood, walking over to it. Scaling up the tree, he took one of the apples, throwing it to Eri's direction. "You made this!"
"I'm sorry..."
"What? No, no, I'm proud of you, not upset."
Eri looked up as Izuku re-approached her. "Proud...?"
"Yes. Your quirk is incredible."
Eri smiled slightly, taking the apple and taking a giant bit out of it. Izuku sat next to her, patting her on the head. "Tell you what. Let's take a break for now."
"Oh, umm...okay!" Eri continued to bite down on th apple, savouring the sweet taste. Izuku laid down, looking at the tree. He frowned, trying to figure out what to do with it.
"Umm, do you want me to...turn the tree back?" Eri looked at the tree, which was, all things considered, kind of in the way.
"Huh...? No, that's okay. I'll do it. Though, it's a good thing your quirk knocked us back, or we would be inside that tree..."
"Did my quirk not hurt you?"
"No, any damage you may have caused was reversed by your quirk. See!" Izuku raised his arm, showing to Eri how there wasn't any damage, aside from a few scars from months ago.
"Eri, your quirk doesn't always hurt people. You can help them too."
"Help them?"
"Yup."
Eri smiled, tilting her head slightly.
"I'm going to get better then. So I can help you more!"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Look, I have already told you. I didn't join Izuku and I didn't run away."
Bakugo leant on his hand slightly, boredom clearly printed on his face. Before him, teachers, heroes and political figures watched him attentively. Bakugo's second disappearance had made news across the majority of Japan, counted as an additional failure of UA. Perhaps, that's why many were so interested with his return.
"What happened then?"
Bakugo sighed, straightening his back, addressing the crowd before him. "I was training. You wanted to bring Izuku down, so I went and trained. Is there a problem with that?"
Nezu sighed, handing him an article of paper. Bakugo raised an eyebrow, holding the paper with a hint of hesitation. It was news article, dated two months ago. It was about him, an article that sent his blood running cold.
1 month since student disappearance.
Alliance between UA and the league of Villians?
The extract detailed outlandish theories about how UA traded Bakugo for information or how UA and the League were partners, conspiring against the world.
"That isn't all." Nezu placed a tablet in front of him. It was a comment section, with the post asking about peoples views on UA.
It was hard to find any positive comment. Some said how it was cursed, or how it was too dangerous, or that it should have been closed. The public outcry against UA flooded the screen.
"Ever since you disappeared, our school had been attacked by media. We are facing a great civil war with the heroes and the public. Our society is crumbling, so I will ask you again. Why didn't you say anything?"
"What's that got to do with anything!? The fact I left suddenly means it's my fault that UA is being attacked?! I didn't say anything because I knew this would happen no matter what! You would think I joined Izuku and wouldn't let me go."
"I guess people really don't believe you, Kacchan."
All heads in the room looked upwards quickly, hearing the familiar voice echo in the room.
For gods sake.
A familiar mask stared back at them eerily, any expression masked by its scratched surface. All the heroes immediately stood, either guarding the political figures or preparing to fight the boy.
Izuku giggled, effortlessly jumping down from the chandelier and landing on the desk. "Jeez, calm down. I'm not here to fight any of you."
"What are you doing here?!" Aizawa yelled at the boy, displaying to Bakugo the most emotion he had ever seen from the man. He looked angry, no malicious towards Izuku. In return, Izuku turned to him, sitting cross legged on the table. "Well, since you asked so nicely...I'm here to talk business."
"We have no business with a villian."
"Wow, rude much? Anyway, I'm not exactly giving you a choice."
"Oh really? How so?" Nezu remained seated, opting for a more calm response. Izuku smiled, though invisible through his mask, before disappearing.
It was like he had faded from view, like they had blinked and he had gone. That was until they heard someone clearing their throat. They turned their head, eyes wide.
Izuku had a knife wrapped around Bakugo's neck, holding Bakugo as a kind of hostage. Bakugo tried to activate his quirk, but seemed to be unable to move, or speak. Izuku's mask could be half-seen, his glowing eyes the most distinguishable feature. "What...the fuck?" Bakugo struggled against his invisible restraint, to no avail.
"Paralysis. Keeps you from burning me up. Or, I guess now you could probably punch your way though me."
Bakugo's breathing hitched slightly, giving Izuku the conformation he needed. "Bingo."
The heroes had frozen, unsure of what to do. They couldn't enact any direct attack towards Izuku, otherwise Bakugo would be affected. "Now, listen. Any quirk activation and Kacchan goes bye-bye."
"Why...don't you kill me? Get...it over...with?"
"Oh please, if i killed you now, there is no reason for the heroes not to kill me. You, my good sir, are a hostage."
Bakugo scoffed, struggling again. The most he could move was a few fingers, but it was a start. "Now, are you going to listen to me?"
Nezu sighed, beckoning to the teachers to sit down. "What are your demands?"
"Demands? No, no. I want to make a deal."
"A deal?"
"Its quite simple really. I'm a broker, so I deal information."
"That didn't stop you from stealing from the school...". Aizawa scoffed. He seemed really upset about Izuku being there. As for why, Bakugo had no idea.
"What do you want?"
"Give me all the information you have on villians. Every file."
Aizawa was about to say something, but Nezu raised a hand to silence him. "And what will you offer in return?"
Izuku smiled (again, not visible), tilting his head slightly. His knife eased up slightly on his neck as Izuku's belittling tone spoke, almost muffled through the mask
"I will wake up Kirishima."
That traitor.
That traitor.
Traitor.
Traitor.
Traitor.
Her fault.
All her fault.
She had to go.
Izuku had to go too.
He would help everyone.
Save them.
Save them.....
And stop her.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It was dark.
Cold.
Like he was laying on a metallic floor.
Unable to move.
He had no idea how long he had been there. There was no way to tell in this bottomless hell. A permanent sense of vertigo and emptiness. Like everything spiralled down into the depths of an unseen curse. There was no way to move. Was he chained down?
Was he paralysed?
He didn't know anymore.
He didn't really remember.
He could only think of pain running though his body before he was trapped here. Like all the bones in his body had splintered, snapped like a toothpick.
What was he doing before that?
Who was he?
Was he even alive?
"K--i---ma-!"
Kima? What was that? He couldn't really hear over the screeching beeping noise. A heart monitor? What was that? Why did he think that?
Was he dying?
"Kir---i-ma?-"
Kirima? Was that his name?
"KIRISHIMA!"
That's right. Kirishima. That was his name.
Who was calling his name?
He couldn't really think.
He couldn't really do anything.
But that wasn't a thing new.
"KIRISHIMA!!"
A blinding light entered the pitch blackness, drowning out the previous stale background. He squinted his eyes, the light burning his eyes painfully.
Everything was a little blurry, but he could see jumbled colours. Some yellow, some black, some white. It was hard to make out distinguishable shapes.
"Kirishima?"
Kirishima felt a hand shake his shoulder, finally pulling him back to his senses. In front of him was Bakugo, eyes wide in shock. His voice was a little hoarse, probably from being asleep for god knows how long. "Waddup...?"
Bakugo snorted, covering his face with his hands. "Jesus christ. Three months and that the first thing you say?"
Kirishima tried to sit up, though weakly due to his condition, but was caught severely off guard by what stood by the other end of the bed. The black colour with a familiar mask. What. The. Hell.
It was Izuku, releasing his hands from Kirishimas shoulder. He coughed slightly, clutching his chest displaying a slight tinge of pain. "UMMM WHAT THE HELL?!"
"Jesus, you're welcome..."
"What...did you..?"
"He...fixed you." Nezu jumped on to the bed, inspecting Kirishima with curiosity. "I don't know how though."
"Like I'd tell you." Izuku opened the nearby window. "We will meet tomorrow for the handover. If you try and ambush me, I will kill all civilians in the area. Do not try anything."
Izuku jumped from the window, disappearing from their view. Bakugo looked out the window, seeing nothing from the boy.
"Mind filling me in?"
Kirishima sat up, slightly confused. Bakugo sighed walking back to Kirishima, sitting in one of the chairs. "We did a trade. You for all information we held on the villians."
"Seriously?! But, why?"
"It was like he said." Nezu sitting down on the bed. "We really didn't have a choice."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
If you think about it, Izuku's deal may seem redundant. Trade information he already knows for one of UA's students? What was the point?
Well, it was exactly that.
Izuku grinned laying back down at his chair, looking at Eri, who was playing with some cards alongside Toga and Magne. His plan was working. It wouldn't take long for things to begin.
He had forced UA to take the deal, or their reputation would be damaged further.
He would now know how much the heroes really knew about them.
He now knows that Bakugo had a weakness.
He now knows that Bakugo has trained using One for All.
Though, maybe what's most important was he knew where he was. It was the whole reason he wanted to heal Kirishima. It wasn't to help them. He wanted to look around the hospital without being caught. And it worked. He knew where he was.
He now knew where Kaminari was.
With that, everything was ready.
Every weapon, every villian, every fighting force was ready.
It was time to start the war.
