Chapter 38: Bakugo and Todoroki
Todoroki entered the shared first floor with a dreary face, as he walked into the lounge to get a book for his studies. He did not, however, anticipate that four forlorn faces would look back at him. None of them spoke a word, instead turning away again to one again stare into space.
"Is something wrong?"
Todoroki didn't talk with his classmates a lot. Most days he spent in recluse, spending his days in his room. It wasn't that he was afraid to get close to them, it was more like he didn't know how. He never had much interaction with anyone when he was younger, besides his father and mother. He barely got the chance to talk to his siblings due to the grueling training he was subjected to in his younger years.He hadn't talked to his mother either ever since she had been admitted to the hospital after burning his face.
This did leave some negative effects in the end. Namely, how to talk to people his age.
One or two looked up again, but stayed silent. It was to be expected however. With everything that happened to Bakugo and Kirishima, paranoia spread through their class like wildfire, inflicting most of the school with such a disease.
It was impossible to gauge who to trust anymore.
If he had to say, Kaminari seemed the most agitated. Ever since the incident with Bakugo and Kirishima, it became quite impossible to locate him anymore. He was nervous in class and wasn't as happy go lucky anymore. Considering his personality, it was something to be worried about.
Maybe that's why Kaminari wasn't with the group.
"Hey Todoroki." Uraraka looked up at him eventually, a small smile bridging her cheeks. It was unbelievably forced, but he let he continue. "We are okay. We just have a lot to think about right know."
"What do you mean?"
"Bakugo's awake."
Todoroki walked over to the four and sat down on a sofa next to Mina. "That's good isn't it?"
"Yes, but..."
"But what?"
"He keeps blaming himself for everything that's been going on." Sero sighed, turning toward Todoroki without his usual carefree appearance. "We are starting to think these attacks are weighing on his mind. We're just trying to come up with something to make him go back to his normal self."
"But he won't listen to us!" Mina continued. "He always responds dismissively and doesn't agree with us. We don't know what to do."
Todoroki paused, thinking to himself as the four look away again. "I have an idea..."
"Really? What is it?"
"I'll talk to him tomorrow. You guys should probably get some rest."
"But it's only nine o'clock."
"And you all look exhausted. Sleep."
One by one, they left to go to their dorm rooms. Todoroki stood, got his book and returned to his own room.
This attitude they described seemed entirely familiar, which is why he hoped this idea would work.
Though, it was something he swore to never tell to anyone. But in this scenario, it seemed that there was no choice if Bakugos mental stability was being shaken.
Especially considering everything that had been going on recently.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It was his fault.
It really was.
No matter how many times everyone said it wasn't.
He knew better than that.
He knew that people where dying because of him. Because of his actions, people were dead.
All Might, Kirishima and who knows how many heroes were dead or on the verge of it. All trying to save him. Because he was weak, they lay dead.
While he still lived.
Bakugo lay on his hospital bed, deep in thought. He wouldn't respond to the nurses when they came in for morning check ups. He just laid down, staring at the ceiling doing nothing in particular.
His arms had been freed from the casts, due to Recovery Girls visit and his leg was getting better. His chest was still in rough shape but it would heal with time.
Many teachers, police and reporters had come in to talk with him, asking him for details on what occurred. Of course, he still couldn't give may details, with his mind being slightly warped. He also hadn't had the chance to visit Kirishima, due to himself being bed bound. Supposedly, his condition wasn't getting better or worse.
It was impossible to portray how guilty he felt.
That was knew for him though. In the span of a few months, he had felt guilt for the first time in a while. Even when he bullied Izuku, he never felt guilty. Guess he was feeling that now.
A knock resounded in the room, indicating to Bakugo to turn his head in response, but not returning a notion that he was awake. The doors slide open, revealing a boy with dual coloured hair and scarred face. He stared at Bakugo with his regular frosted over gaze as they locked eyes. Bakugo sighed, shifting himself so he was sat up.
"Hey Icyhot."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Cold.
It was cold. And dark. And empty. And reprieved of oxygen. It was like a vacuum in space, entirely consuming all matter that tried to breach it, enveloping gases, liquids and solids.
Izuku tried to breath, but received nothing in return, creating a deep burning that consumed his entire body. He struggled, gripping his throat in desperation as he suffocated inside out. Yet he didn't die. He remained in that permanent state of agony, collapsed on the hypothetical floor as he writhed left and right, trying to dispel all his pain out of his body.
He shivered violently, and could see nothing. He lay in the darkness as his body continued to reject him. No screams erupted from his body, leaving him unable to convey the pain that traveled through his body, coursing through every space that was left.
He couldn't hear much either, the amount he could hear was unwarranted, as static played in the background, reigniting his fear. His fear of being alone again.
This space, this loneliness, this pain. It felt all too familiar. He didn't want to remember. He buried that away months ago.
Please don't make him remember.
Please.

"Hey Kacchan..."
"Eh? What?"
"Why do you still hang around me?"
"Umm...because you're my friend?"
"But, why? I...can't be a hero with you. I don't have a quirk..."
"Do you think that matters?"
"Eh?"
"Quirk or not, it's my job to look after you right? I'm strong, you're not. I need to look after you."
"Right..."
"Geez, come on! We are going to miss fight!"
"Coming..."
\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\
"Oi Deku!"
"K-kacchan?"
"What the fuck are you doing?"
"Umm...I...I'm..."
"God, Nevermind..."
"Kacchan...wait!"
"Fuck off Deku!"
Izuku froze, standing in his place as he watched to blonde walk away with his gang, all laughing at Izukus expense. Bakugo had ever told him to leave before like that...
Did he hate him? Was he frustrated with him? Why...why did...
"S-sorry..."
///////////////////////////
Izuku let his legs dangle slightly, ignoring the stares of his classmates. He was sat on the rooftop drawing the view from the school, sitting on the brick railing that overlooked everything. His school wasn't that big, but it did have 4 stories with an accessible rooftop for students.
He mainly went there to avoid Bakugo, and to be alone with his thoughts. He didn't really have any friends in school, meaning he had no one to stand up to Bakugo. Hell many in his class probably hated him. It wouldn't really be a surprise.
Izuku turned the page in his book, looking at a tree which he decided to reference. Because he drew a lot in his hero analysis journal to study hero outfits, he became quite good at it, using it as a way to pass the time.
Most students were in the classrooms chatting or in the cafeteria eating lunch. The ones who came to the roof where the younger year group or loners who wanted to avoid everyone. It became standard for people to side on the brick railing, gazing at nothing in particular or reading.
Izuku felt a nudge of his shoulder, before being met with a hard shove on his back. Izuku yelled in surprise, gripping the side of the railing parallel to the direction he was pushed. Behind him were cackles of laughter. Izuku turned to see Bakugo's 'protege's' if you even could call them that. Most where hysterically laughing at him, others where disappointed. "Dammit, you didn't shove hard enough!"
"What the hell?! You think shoving someone to their death is funny?!" A random girl ran up to them, her friends behind her with one running to the teachers office.
"Uh clearly? Who the fuck are you?"
"Kiana. I'm three years below yours."
"Oh, you're a fucking first year, eh? Well then, you need to learn your fucking place." One of the boys walked up to the girl, who was a lot shorter. He raised an arm at the girl, a pissed of look in his eyes. "N-no!"
.............
Since being near Bakugo, Izuku had developed quite fast reflexes. However, in that moment, he had no time to push the girl out the way. Instead, he took the blow, standing in front of her as he punched his in the stomach, hard. Izuku collapsed to the ground in pain, the girl and her friends crouching beside him.
"Tch, Fuckin' Deku..."
Izuku stood, looking at the guy in the eyes and muttered two words.
"Fuck you."
Izuku walked away, gripping his stomach as the bullies watched in awe. It had been about a week since the incident with Bakugo and the slime villian, so his classmates antics seemed to become more...extreme. He managed to hold hope for a long time, smiling beside every thing that was happening. But now, he was done. He couldn't do it anymore. Bakugo was still in the hospital but when he came out? Izuku would suffer.
Undeniable so.
He couldn't smile for much longer.
He couldn't do this for much longer.
How could he?
Not with everything screaming at him, his mind edging him on with that singular word that Bakugo loved to throw around.
Die.
////////////////////////
Die...
Die.
Die
Izuku paused, his pain subsiding for a brief minute, his vision clearing and the static quieting. Die.
That's right.
He could be here right now.
Because someone needed to die.
Katsuki Bakugo needed to die.
As he grasped onto his reality, not allowing it to slip through his fingers, he heard a voice. It was familiar. Strongly familiar. It also sounded excited, joyful even.
"Compress! He's waking up!"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Todoroki entered the hospital room, taking a chair and sitting beside Bakugos bed. He had yet to say a word, merely looked conflicted as Bakugo stared at him.
"What do you want, Icyhot?"
Todoroki didn't reply, but continue to think about something. Bakugo looked at Todoroki with a stare that combine disbelief and confusion into one. "Uh, Icyhot? Hello?"
Todoroki didn't reply.
"Look Icyhot, if you came here to stay silent, you may as well-"
"You blame yourself, don't you?"
Bakugo's eyes went wide, before looking away, staring instead at the bedding. "What are you talking about...?"
"Answer the question."
"No I don't..."
"Then why aren't you looking at me?"
"Ok, Icyhot. Why the fuck does it matter to you? You're not exactly someone who is concerned about others feelings."
"And you aren't exactly someone who talks about his feelings."
"Tch"
"So tell me. Do you blame your self?"
"...Is that even a damn question? You know damn well it's my fault."
"What is?"
"All Might, Kirishima, everything!"
"How is it?"
"Well, if Izuku didn't end up Batshit crazy, he wouldn't have killed All Might now would he? And who made him that way?" Bakugo pointed to himself. "This fucking guy."
Todoroki nodded, turning to Bakugo, sitting on his bed so he could look Bakugo in the eye. "So every bad thing that happened is your fault? Because you did something wrong, you are to blame for everything?"
"Look, what are you getting at?"
"If that's the case, then it's entirely my fault my face is burned like this, even though I didn't pour the water."
Bakugo turned to him, confused and a little shocked. "My mother poured boiling water on my face when she couldn't take me looking like my father."
"Hows that got anything to do with me?"
"My father would have never married her if he never wanted me. If he wasn't so intent on beating All Might, my mother would have never gone through what she did. If I weren't created, she wouldn't have been hurt. So tell me..."
Todoroki stared toward Bakugo. "Despite me never having a choice over what happened to me, is it my fault that my mother burned me?"
Bakugo paused, before looking at the dual coloured boy. "Well, you didn't have a choice. I did. I had the choice to stop what I did."
"Well my mother had a chance to leave, but she didn't. After I was born, she had no reason to stay, but she did."
"So what?"
"Well, she also had the choice to not burn me. But she did. However, despite this, I don't hate my mother. Despite what she did, I forgave her. You see, Izuku could have forgiven you, but didn't. That isn't your fault. Me and Izuku both went through shit, but the difference is that I forgave my mother."
Todoroki looked at Bakugo, placing a photo in front of him. "See the red haired boy there? He couldn't forgive my father, so he ran away. But see my sister here, she forgave him for disregarding her and made something good of her life. But they both had the same experience with my father. My brother hates him but still sticks around. Izuku had the chance to forgive you, but he didn't and chose a path in life that he wanted. You had no say in that. What I'm saying is that you can't blame yourself for something he did. Especially since he has basically cut all ties from you."
Bakugo stared at the picture, speechless. Todoroki had been through shit but had still turned out okay. Bakugo chuckled slightly, looking at Todoroki. "So your entire family are walking contradictions of each other."
"You could say that." Todoroki smiled, putting the photo back in his pocket.
"Thanks Todoroki."
"No Icyhot?"
"I tried to compliment you so fucking take it."
"You're welcome, Mr. King explosion murder."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Kaminari placed backwards and forwards in his room. He didn't know what to do. Truthfully, he was entirely lost. He saw Uraraka with the Villians when they left. Did that mean she was with the villians?
He had recorded them leaving, but he hadn't shown it to anyone yet. Who would he show it to? Everyone was paranoid as it is. Adding another bombshell like that would only make things worse.
He hadn't talked to Uraraka yet either. Honestly, he was kinda scared to. Scared of what she would do to him if she knew.
There was one person he could trust to tell. Someone he could trust not to tell anyone. But he was unconscious, and half-dead.
What could he do?
What should he do?
What to do....

Authors note:
Heya!
I've been doing a bit better now (even though it's only been a day but o o p). Man do I love emotional crap. Though, writing is a good distraction so I would recommend doing it, even if you aren't the best writer. Though, it probably isn't a good idea to do this at midnight. Thanks to the people who offered their support though!
Sorry if Todoroki's analogy/story was confusing. Let me know if you need it explained.
On another note, I was thinking about something. So this book is relatively serious and for a while I've been wanting to do something more light hearted for a while. So I was thinking, would you be interested in a UA oneshot book? Not about ships or anything like that (yeah sure...), more like humorous scenarios or head canons with the students. It wouldn't slow down updates on this book or anything, it would just be for fun.
Let me know!
That being said, I also want to know what you want to read. If you have any suggestions for a book, let me know! Though I won't write anything...explicit. But I don't mind writing about ships. But nothing explicit. No.
Please.
Thank you again!
See ya later!
