Chapter 17: Departure

1 2 3 4.

5 6 7 8.

Children's chanting sounded throughout the park. Hopscotch, hide and seek, tag. They played any game that came to their mind.

Though some chants where quite sadistic right?

Ring around the rosies, a song about people dying of the plague.

London bridge, a gaint bridge collapsing far down.

Yet the children sung them happily, dancing in circles and through trees. Of course, Bakugo remembered when he too participated in those chants. Chanting about death as toddlers, hand in hand with other smiling kids. Maybe that was why children where more aware with death then they thought. Maybe that's why he mentioned it alot to Izuku. Just like the nursery rhymes they sing together. Maybe that was why Izuku was comfortable threatening someones life.

Yet nursery rhymes are used as entertainment. As a childhood memory. Robbery and assult were nothing like that. Of course Bakugo was no better, attacking Izuku to the point of unconsciousness was not exactly entertainment. Maybe they were similar in that sense.

Bakugo didn't know how Izuku had gotten to that state. Harmless teasing couldn't have done that right. Harmless...?

Fuck that. He beat that boy to the point of hospitalization at one point. He scared, hit, mocked and hurt this kid who was one of his closest friends. How could he even say harmless?

Friends. Could they even be considered that anymore? After everything they did to each other, what even where they? Who was worse?

Maybe they were the same.

Bakugo sat solemnly on the swing him and Izuku spent alot of time at, rocking slightly on his heels. He wanted some time alone, and his legs brought him here.

He had to wonder how much damage he did. To Izuku. He was trying to show him what being a hero would entail. Especially a quirkless one. As if he was trying to deter him from becoming one, like the videos they showed them in class wanted to do. Just with more brute force.

Despite everything. Despite everything he did. He still hated Izuku. Even though he accepted that it was partially his fault, he still hated him. Sympathy yeah. Guilt maybe. Nothing more than that. He still lived with the trauma he received with the villian. The scorching overwhelming pain and screams enveloped his dreams continually. And he wanted someone to blame. It was just the kind of prideful person he was.

He hated him. Yet he still wiped the tears that consumed his face as he recounted everything. All the guilt he had built up and denied.

He hated him...

Right?

Izuku stood behind the bar, organising files and papers. He would be leaving in a hour or so. He managed his time by looking over the notes of the villian he would work with and the heroes he would face. Whether it would be useful he didn't know.

Kurogiri told him to pack only essentials. What he defined as essentials, he didn't say. Izuku packed his villian outfit, a extra jumper, notebooks, pens, his phone and his knife. Oh and his mask, which took up most of the space. It was weird to think that he was going somewhere where having a weapon is absolutely necessary. Death, murder and the such would be more common than what he was used to.

It was sure to a 'fantastic' few months.

Speaking of a few months, the UA exams where coming up. Izuku was sure that Bakugo would enrol. From what he saw when he was almost caught, his quirk had gotten stronger as well as his physique.

What was weird was that the news didn't mention that he was the one who robbed the place. Or that he threatened the clerk. Also no wanted posters or warnings were posted. What he concluded was that Bakugo didn't tell them, or that they didn't want to release the information yet without evidence. Especially considering how he was reportedly 'attacked' and 'kidnapped' according to the reports. Basically it would give the police a bad reputation if they were wrong about either one, so they may just not tell anyone.

"Hey Izuku."

"Hmm...?"

"They're here"

Izuku looked up to see Kurogiri, behind his Giran and some odd looking people, around 7. Giran smirked. "You look different."

"Good to see you too Giran." Izuku rolled his eyes, putting the papers down and stepping forward. "These the guys?"

"Yeah. You will be working with them for the next few months. Introductions then, this i-"

"Izuya kurozuri. 27. Occupation- Hostage dealerships and Information withholder. Status- widower. Your wife was killed in a police stand-off after being wrongly accused of murder, which was swept under the rug by the heroes and police. Yada yada can we continue?"

Giran chuckled softly, the man next to him clearly shocked. "Seems you did your homework. Ok you will work with him first. Come forward then. Rest of you stay here for your next assignments."

Izuku moved forward, shoulders broad to portray a more confident appearance on his thin frame. Giran nodded to Kurogiri, who opened a portal leading god knows where.

Taking the mask out of his bag, he clipped it onto his face, the weight still feeling unnatural. Before going through the portal, Giran gave him a nudge.

"Shigaraki told me your code name. From now on you will be referred to as Deku. Respond only to that"

Izukus face dropped. "Of- fucking -course he did..."

Izuku stepped one foot through the portal, completely unhesitant, right into his new life as an official villian.

Bakugo got home late last night, around 9pm. He removed his shoes at the doorstep and went to his room and slept.

Today was the entrance exams to UA high. 3 months before actual enrollment. Bakugo was determined to become a hero. He would become a hero.

He would prove himself to everyone.

His quirk was amazing enough so he would be able to pass the exam with ease. For a moment he wondered if Izuku would be there, but quickly shot down the possibility. If the weekend prove anything, it was that Izuku had left the hero path far behind.

"Damn deku..."

He would prove that he was better than him. He would never be taken down like that again. Never again.

He couldn't be taken down like that again.

Putting on his shoes, gym bag in tow, he opened the door and stepped out, without hesitation, right into his new life as a hero.

He just had to pass the exams first.
