Twenty Two

"Did you pack everything you're going to need?" Haneul's mother asked as soon as she watched her daughter walking downstairs with luggage in hand.

Haneul gave her a quick smile without stopping on her tracks, placing her stuff behind the closed door.

"Yes mom, don't worry" She said, walking towards her mother and placing her hand on her shoulder with a soft smile on her lips.

"I hope so" She sighed "I'm worried about you, we won't be able to communicate as much since you'll be in a mountain"

A soft meow made her look down, finding Minki rubbing himself against Haneul's leg, making her giggle and picking him up.

"I'll be okay mom, Yeonjun will be with me and Kai's parents will be there" She assured once more, caressing the soft furr of her cat. "I wish I could take him with me" She said, pouting.

Her mom chuckled, taking the cat and holding it in her arms. She looked at him with adoration. It had been just a couple of days but she for sure learned to love him quickly.

"I'll take good care of him" Her mom promised "And he will be waiting for you"

Haneul smiled, petting the cat a bit more when they heard a horn on the outside.

"It must be them" Haneul said, taking a deep breath through her nose in excitement and nervousness. She turned on her heels and walked to the door, finding Yeonjun as soon as she opened it.

"Jesus Christ you scared me" He said, placing his hand on his chest to soothe his racing heart. Haneul chuckled in response.

"Sorry" She apologized, grabbing her luggage before he stopped her. She looked up and he smiled gently at her.

"I'll do it"

Haneul smiled.

"Thank you"

Yeonjun turned around and walked to the van that was waiting in front of her house, placing the luggage inside whilst Haneul said goodbye to her mother.

Wrapped in a hug, Haneul inhaled her mother's sweet scent and received a sweet kiss on top of her head. Her mother rubbed her back and as soon as they pulled back, tucked a strand of hair behind her daughter's ear.

"Please take care of yourself. Eat well, sleep well, don't be a burden for that family"

Haneul rolled her eyes and nodded, chuckling.

"I will, mom, I promise" She said, holding her mother's hand between hers. "Tell dad I said goodbye"

Haneul turned around after her mom gave her one last smile. She made her way to the van where Yeonjun waited for her to get in, smiling to each other.

"Please don't forget to use the seatbelt!" Her mother shouted from behind, making Haneul stop on her tracks and almost freeze up, processing her mother's words.

The seatbelt. Don't forget to use the seatbelt.

Her smile vanished when she got inside the van after Yeonjun, although he was the one who closed the door. He sat next to the window and she sat next to him, fastening the seatbelt around her frame. Her friends started to cheerfully greet her, snapping her back to earth.

"We are going to have so much fun!" Kai exclaimed, sitting on the row behind. Haneul smiled and nodded, but she wasn't really feeling it.

She heard the engine roaring, and the van started to move when Kai's parents introduced themselves.

She could hear all of their voices, but she couldn't pay attention to them. She suddenly felt tense and her body stiffened. Her heart was pounding so fast it made her feel nauseous, and she could've sworn she had cold sweat running down her neck. As soon as her mother said those words and she thought about being in a car for at least three hours, she started to feel terrified.

Her hands grasped the cloth of her jeans firmly, and her breathing became ragged. She looked down at her feet, trying to calm down, but it was useless.

"I noticed your mom really liked the cat" Yeonjun said to her, with a smile that she didn't see. When he noticed that she wasn't listening, or even looking back at him, he knew there was something wrong. "Haneul?"

Tears formed in her eyes as she tried to catch her breath. The memories of the accident coming back to her brain like a storm.

Yeonjun stared at her, frowning when he noticed she was shaking. The rest of the boys stopped talking when they saw their hyung's worried expression.

"Haneul" He whispered, touching her hand that was cold.

"Is she okay?" Kai asked, concerned.

"I think she's having a panic attack" Beomgyu suggested, leaning forward and trying to have a better view.

"I-I" Haneul muttered. She wanted to say she was okay, but the knot on her throat made it impossible.

Yeonjun quickly wrapped his arms around her, pulling her against his chest. She finally reacted and grasped on his sweater, whimpering.

"Don't be scared, it's okay" He whispered, caressing her head as she buried her face in the crook of his neck. His closeness made her loosen up and let all of her fears out.

"I don't know if I can do this" She cried "I'm scared"

"Shhh" He cooed "Nothing bad is going to happen, okay? I'm here, I won't let anything hurt you"

"I want to go back home" She cried "I don't want any of you to get hurt. I don't want you to die"

Haneul had her face drenched in tears. It had been a long while since she had felt so scared. But why then? Why there? She kept wondering that. It was supposed to be a fun time, and she was already ruining it minutes after she left her house. Yeonjun on the other hand, felt his heart sink when she said those words. His expression instantly softened, his heart ached. She was so fragile, so pure, she cared about him that much and it was hard for him to believe it. He hugged her tightly, resting his chin on the top of her head.

"Baby, no... I'm not going anywhere. Please don't feel that way, it's devastating." He thought to himself, feeling a knot in his stomach due to the frustration.

The grasp on his clothes became stronger. He held her even tighter, moving his hand up and slowly running his fingers through her scalp, trying to soothe her.

"Dear, don't worry, we promise to take care of you" Kai's mom said from the passenger seat, concern in her voice when she noticed what was happening.

Yeonjun looked down at her small frame clinging on his torso, still stroking her hair.

"We won't die, we won't get hurt. We'll be okay, we're safe" He whispered in her ear softly. "I promise you, we'll be alright. I've always protected you, haven't I? This time won't be any different" He repeated. He lifted her face gently, his heart breaking with the terrified look in her eyes. He wiped away her tears with his thumbs and moved her bangs away. "Do you trust me?" He asked softly. She hesitated, but ended up nodding, gaining a gentle smirk from his lips. "Then breathe with me" He said, grabbing her hand and placing it on his chest, inhaling "Feel me, follow me"

He inhaled deeply, and exhaled softly a few times. She followed him for a few minutes, until she managed to calm down a little.

"I...I'm sorry guys" She apologized, turning her head to look at her friends, still nervous, but feeling safe between Yeonjun's arms that were still around her.

The four boys felt bad for her, understanding that her reaction was a result of her traumatic experience. Even if she was doing a lot better, wounds were still there, and needed time to heal.

"Don't apologize... We understand" Beomgyu said, smiling at her sympathethically.

"We know how hard it must be" Taehyun added "We're here for you"

"You scared us, we don't want you to feel that way. We will always protect each other" Soobin was the next to speak.

She smiled sadly.

"I'm sorry... I couldn't control myself. I just started to remember all that happened just by that word. This is the first time I have to go on a long ride since the accident." She muttered. Yeonjun rubbed her arm letting her know it was okay.

"Noona, you don't need to explain. Listen, let's light up the mood and distract your mind from your fears. I have an idea!" Kai suddenly spoke, a huge grin plastered on his face.

"What do you have in mind?" Soobin asked, genuinely curious.

"Let's sing for her"

"Sing?" Haneul asked, confused. "Like that kind of songs you sang during school trips?"

"Ew, no!" Kai said, chuckling. "But first... What do you say guys?"

"I think it could help her" Beomgyu said.

"It's fine for me" Taehyun expressed.

"I'm in" Soobin shrugged.

"And you, hyung?" Kai asked, looking at Yeonjun. He looked down at Haneul who looked back, still confused.

He nodded.

"Let's do it then"

Beomgyu grabbed his guitar, that was placed under the seat. He took it out of the cover and placed it on his lap.

Haneul didn't know what was happening. She thought they were joking, so she pressed her lips in a thin line, trying to stop from laughing.

"We're going to show you something not many people know" Yeonjun said to her. She knitter her brows together.

"Yeah, it's actually something we share... Kind of secretly. But it helps us, so I'm sure it's gonna help you as well" Kai added. "Which song do we sing?" He asked, looking at his friends.

"Our Summer?" Soobin proposed, and the rest nodded.

"Right... This is a song we wrote a while ago. We're not experts so please don't expect too much of us" Beomgyu said, chuckling. He moved his fingers, starting to bring some chords to life.

"Ready? One, two, three"

AN: For a better experience, listen to this <3 if not, it's okay!

She watched them, completely atonished. She couldn't believe her eyes and ears. She looked at Yeonjun, finding it hard to believe that something so beautiful came out of his mouth.

She felt her heart swell, swell so much she could cry. How's that she never knew about this? If all they wanted was to distract her, not only they complied, but also soothed her fears and pain away. It was like they had taken her to another place where nothing bad could happen. Like a magic island, where nothing could hurt, and they did all that with just their voices. She thought it was cheesy of her to think that way, but it was nothing but the truth.

As soon as they finished, she was covering her mouth with the palm of her hand. She was mesmerized, enchanted, not only by how beautiful that was, but because of the gesture they had made for her. They were sharing something so special with her, because they cared, because they trusted her.

"Did you like it?"

"Are you serious? Guys how's that you never told me about this?" She asked, her eyes still glossy. "That was so fucking beautiful I think I could cry" Haneul laughed, wiping away her tears because she was, indeed, crying. She felt so embarrased that ended up covering her whole face, and hiding on Yeonjun's lap as they laughed.

However, they found her reaction extremely adorable. Not only they noticeably made her feel better, but she also genuinely loved that little part of their lives they decided to share. She praised them, and although they didn't think it was that much, they were satisfied.

"You're a crybaby" Yeonjun chuckled, patting on her head.

She straightened her posture and pushed him on the shoulder, hiding behind her hands.

"See guys? Seems like we just found a way to calm noona down"

Yeonjun POV:

Two hours or so had passed. Haneul was sleeping soundly with her head resting on my shoulders, whilst I listened to some music with my airpods on. The rest of the guys were quiet, all minding their own business when I looked at the window and recognized the familiar surroundings. That small village where everything was quiet, but beautiful. The sun was still shining, but it was obvious the place was decorated for the holidays. I smiled, thinking about how many things we would do from that moment.

"We're finally here!" Kai's mom said cheerfully, turning her head to smile at us.

The van slowed down, and I spotted the cabin that Kai's family owned right in front of us. I took my airpods off and placed them in my pocket.

"Thank God, I can't feel my butt" Kai expressed from behind. I turned my head and looked down to Haneul, who was sleeping so peacefully that the idea of waking her up made me feel terrible.

"Did she fall asleep?" I heard Beomgyu ask in a whisper, leaning forward to take a closer look.

I nodded, smiling.

"I'm glad she was able to rest. Panic attacks are exhausting"

Beomgyu nodded in agreement.

"We wanted to distract her with the song, but it seems like we lulled her to sleep" Soobin chuckled.

"Okay guys, time to get off" Kai's mother said, jumping out of the car. "Hyuka, please help with the luggage" His father spoke this time, gaining a low groan from him.

"Coming!" He said, standing up.

"I think you should wake her up, unless you want us to spend the night inside the van" Taehyun said, tucking his phone inside his pocket.

I took a deep breath and started rubbing her arm gently.

"Haneul" I called "Haneul, we arrived" I repeated, shaking her lightly.

"She's a a heavy sleeper, isn't she" Kai said with amusement.

"Haneul, wake up" I called her again, this time scratching softly her scalp.

"Uh? Oh" She whimpered sleepily. She sat up straight and rubbed her eyes, blinking a few times to get used to the light once again.

I giggled, staring at her face which scrunched adorably as she stretched her arms.

Why are you so cute? Looking so fragile all the time. I really want to protect you from this world.

"Good evening sleeping beauty"  Beomgyu said teasingly. Her eyes widened in shock and she stood up fastly. I noticed the way she got flustered, her cheeks got tinted in a subtle shade of pink.

"I-I'm sorry! I must've fallen asleep" She apologized, clearing her throat. "How long have you been there waiting to get off?"

"A solid hour" Kai said.

Haneul almost panicked, opening the door in a quick movement. We all busted into laughter at her innocent reaction.

"He's messing with you" I chuckled, placing my hand on top of her head "It was less than five minutes"

Haneul diverted her gaze from me to Kai, glaring at him before she jumped off the van. We grabbed our luggage and placed it on the inside of the house.

"So, how are we going to sleep?" Soobin asked. Kai opened his mouth to respond, but his mother spoke first.

"Oh, Haneul will stay in the second room. Hyuka can share room with one of you" She said, walking to the kitchen.

"What?" He whined in response.

"What did you expect? That she would sleep with a guy in her room?" His mother asked, peeking her head from the kitchen. "Be a gentleman and give your room"

Kai sighed. We, on the other hand, tried our best to hold back our giggles.

"Then who's going to share room with me?"

"I'll share with Soobin and Yeonjun hyung" Beomgyu shrugged, walking away.

"Then it's you and me, Tae" Kai huffed, scratching the back of his neck.

"I'd rather sleep outside and freeze to death" Taehyun spat calmly, putting his headphones on and plopping on the couch.

Kai looked at us with an offended expression, then turned around and ran to the living room, jumping and tackling Taehyun.

"Stop being like that" Kai whined, clinging on him as he was being suffocated against the couch.

"Get off" Taehyun groaned, trying to slip away from him.

"Taehyun I love you, love me back, we're brothers!" Kai insisted, pressing his cheek against Taehyun's.

"No"

"Surrender!" Kai said, as he tussled with Taehyun.

I shook my head and laughed, as Beomgyu and Soobin watched the scene the maknaes were making. I walked out of the house, looking for Haneul as soon as I noticed she was still outside.

My eyes scanned the place, until they landed on her frame. She was watching the city from one of the balconies, clearly amazed. Her long hair was blowing in the wind, and she didn't even care about the small snowflakes that were starting to fall from the sky. She was just mere centimeters away from the porch, but she still didn't notice my presence, so I just decided to admire her.

The sun reflected on her face, and she smiled innocently as soon as she felt the snow on the tip of her nose. My heart melted at the sight of her. Like a totally different person from that scared little girl that clung onto my arms hours ago, she looked so fresh, so full of life.

"It's going to get really cold, so you better go inside and warm up" I said, stepping closer. She turned her head and grinned at me, happily.

"Yes, I'll go in a bit" She assured, turning her head again to the previous direction. "Yeonjun, you never told me how beautiful this view would be" She muttered when I stood next to her.

I couldn't stop myself from staring at her, although she wasn't staring back at me.

"There are so many beautiful things that you're going to find here. I just thought it'd be better if you found out on your own"

She nodded, her white smile not leaving her face.

"I'm excited to see them" She said.

Her irises shone brightly with the sunlight, looking like fresh honey. Her long eyelashes battled, and oh, that beautiful mole she had under her eye. I must've stared way too long, cause she glanced at me and chuckled shyly, almost without a sound. Her cheeks were rosy, but she didn't complain and just kept enjoying the landscape.

She was so amazed, so mesmerized by the view... And I was too, but unlike her, I was finding the most beautiful landscape in a human form right next to me.

It was just happening, and I wasn't even aware. Since when? How? I think I didn't even know it back then. It was like I was spacing out, lost in her.

Then I smiled.

"Me too, Haneul, me too".
