Twenty
After having chaged clothes, the group of friends had moved to another place. Haneul wasn't really pleased by the fact that Wendy was still there with them and wouldn't stop being glued to Yeonjun, but she kept trying her best to ignore it and enjoy some quality time with her friends. She was sitting this time between Beomgyu and Kai, whilst Wendy was next to Yeonjun and Yeonjun was between her and Soobin, with Taehyun seated by the window with his earphones on.
Wendy had her head leaning against Yeonjun's shoulder, with her arm wrapped around his. However, she was the last thing in his mind. It was almost like she wasn't there, cause all he could do was stare at Haneul as she joked around with their friends. He still felt annoyed, and kept wondering if Wendy was the reason why they seemed so distant. Maybe if he hadn't invited her, the atmosphere would be a lot lighter and funer. They'd be teasing each other like they always did when they were together.
Yeonjun gave a quick glance down at Wendy, who had her eyes closed. He sighed, feeling irritated. He only wanted to be nice to her and now he felt like he was dating someone he didn't even like And he couldn't even reject her because he still didn't want her to feel bad.
Gladly, the trip ended shortly, and soon they had arrived at the new place. Like puppies that had been caged, they jumped off the car, looking excitedly at their surroundings.
"Where are we?" Haneul asked, noticing the big building ahead of them. "Dynamic maze?"
"Ohh I've heard of this place! It looks so much fun!" Kai exclaimed with a grin on his face.
"I'm sure it is, so let's not waste more time and let's buy the tickets" Yeonjun said with a smile, placing his arms around two of his friends as they walked towards the line.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"I'll need you to pair up, a maximum of three people per team. You'll enter the maze in turns" The young lady from the staff said, gesturing with her hands.
The group looked at each other, probably unsure of who would be the best partner. However, the black haired girl didn't hesitate to claim Yeonjun as her teammate.
"Let's go together, Yeonjunie!" she chirped excitedly, tugging on his sleeve.
Yeonjun looked at her, pulling away from her grasp as nicely as possible, but still gaining a confused look from her face. Her expression quickly turned into a frown. The boys watched the scene and tried their best to surpress their giggles, whilst Haneul smiled in amusement, but she was, to be honest, quite surprised.
The blue haired boy smiled at Wendy apologetically, scratching the back of his head.
"I'm sorry, Wendy. I'll go with Haneul this time" He said, stepping aside and placing his arm around Haneul's shoulders. She looked up at him, confused, and he just winked in response.
"What? why?" Wendy whined, crossing her arms over her chest. "You invited me, so you should go with me. How can you leave me alone?"
"I invited everyone, not only you. I was your partner before and since there's only two girls in here, it's my duty to now pair up with Haneul. And also, you're not alone. There's still four more of us you can pair up with". He explained, not really caring about how displeased Wendy actually seemed.
"I don't--" Kai tried to say, lifting his hand to speak, but got quickly cut off by Yeonjun's glare.
Wendy was pissed. Not to mention that the other boys didn't really want to pair up with her either. Yeonjun, being the oldest and aware of it, made a plan to stop them from complaining.
"Rock, paper scissors. The first three winners will team up together, the last one will go with Wendy".
"You're making it sound like I'm some kind of punishment" She blurted out, irritated.
"Because you are." Taehyun spat in a quick response, not even looking at her as he stood in front of his rival.
Wendy opened her mouth, an offended expression plastered on her face as muffled chuckles filled the air. Haneul watched her friend's sassyness with her hand covering her mouth. She was trying so hard not to burst into laughter that she almost had to hide her face behind Yeonjun's arm.
The benefits of being a short girl.
"Okay, ready?" Yeonjun asked, acting like a referee standing next to Taehyun and Soobin, who were already cracking their knuckles.
They nodded, and the game began.
"Rock, paper, scissors, shoot!" They shouted "Rock, paper scissors, shoot!"
That's how they played, one by one, resulting in a couple of cheers and a pair of eyes rolling. Taehyun, Beomgyu and Soobin resulted in a team, whilst Hueningkai was the one who would have to pair up with Wendy.
"Do I really have to do this? What if I go with Yeonjun hyung and Haneul noona?" Kai said, trying to persuade but failing terribly. Yeonjun quickly smiled sympathethically at the youngest, shaking his head.
"Nice try, but you can't let Wendy go on her own" Yeonjun said with a shrug, gaining a subtle huff from Kai.
"What about me? I want to go with you, Yeonjunie!" She whined
Yeonjun sighed with a smirk, patting on her head.
"Sorry, Wendy, it'll be just Haneul and I"
"Okay, is the first team ready to go?" The girl from the staff asked politely as soon as she saw the group scanning around, most of them excitedly, and the rest... Well, not so much.
"We are ready. We'll go first" Yeonjun said, looking at Haneul for approval, which she instantly gave him.
"Okay, all of you will need a name for your teams"
Yeonjun and Haneul looked at each other, not knowing what to do.
"I... I don't know? What do you think?" She asked, grinning like she already knew how cringey their name would be.
Yeonjun smirked. A weird idea probably popped instantly in his mind, and Haneul could almost smell it from the distance... If thoughts could be smelled. He looked around to his friends with a hint of amusement. Haneul tilted her head and her eyes closed in little crescents.
"You're gonna love this" He said, smirking mischevously.
"Yeonjun..." She murmured, trying to stop him from saying something stupid.
But of course that didn't work.
"The untouchaballs!"
Silence filled the place for a couple of seconds before the group of boys busted into laughter. Haneul's eyes widened and trying to stop herself from laughing, smacked the blue haired boy on his shoulders.
"No! What?!" She asked, with her palm over her mouth.
Yeonjun rubbed his chin.
"Hungry Hippos?" He blurted out again, making his friends laugh even louder.
"Yeonjun!" Haneul shouted, pushing him slightly.
"Okay, okay... What about Won Direction?"
"Oh that's a good one!" Kai exclaimed between chuckles. Wendy just glared at him.
Haneul couldn't help but end up giggling as well, but with her arms crossed over her chest and a "please stop" look on her face.
Yeonjun was laughing at his own silly joke loudly. His cheeks looked cute and squishy, and it was almost the living proof of innocence when his head leaned back and his hands held his stomach as he laughed. It was a cute sight, and it made Haneul smile and her heart swell.
"Please, be serious!" She chuckled. Soon, their laughs lessened, and he just smiled warmly at her.
"Okay, that was funny" He admitted, trying to catch his own breath "What about... Yeoneul?"
It didn't sound serious at all, but it was better. All she wanted was to stop making the poor girl from the staff uncomfortable and start their journey, so she smiled and nodded, pushing him towards the entrance.
"We are ready" She said to the girl. They were now standing in front of a big lion's mouth gate. Their friends raised their fists to cheer them up with smiles on their faces.
"Okay now please say your team name loud" The girl from the staff said.
Yeonjun looked at Haneul.
"One, two, three" He counted "Yeoneul!" They shouted, quickly entering the maze.
As soon as they entered, they saw black walls with a dim flashing light that led to some squared cages kind of tunnels.
"Okay so the first step should be this one" He muttered "Okay now we need to crawl" He said, kneeling down on all fours and starting to crawl, Haneul doing the same.
"This is so small" She said, crawling behind Yeonjun. "Where are we supposed to go? Should I follow you or...?" She asked, turning her head to look around and then accidentaly bumping into Yeonjun's butt. "Ow! Why did you stop?" She chuckled.
"Sorry, I was trying to look around just like you" He said, starting to move again just to stop right after "Please tell me that soft thing against my butt wasn't your hand, you pervert"
"Of course it wasn't"
Yeonjun sighed in relief.
"Good to know"
"It was my face"
"Well that makes it even worse"
"I could tell"
"What if you just go ahead of me?"
"...Are you hoping to bump your face into my butt?"
"I would never!"
Haneul laughed and smacked his butt with her hand, making him chuckle.
"Ouch" He laughed "Well I just found a hole where I think we need to jump" He said, quickly jumping down without any kind of hesitation. "Jump!"
Haneul jumped, thanking god it wasn't high.
"It's so dark here" Yeonjun mumbled, entering another tunnel.
"What the--" Haneul was going to say, but then she found a mirror next to her. "Oh, a mirror. This is so weird" She chuckled, quickly following behind Yeonjun.
She stood up when she spotted Yeonjun standing in front of a blue lion door.
"There's a blue one" He said, then pointed to his right "And a red one"
Haneul stood next to him.
"Which one should we take?"
Yeonjun shrugged.
"I don't know, different ones?" He asked, still looking at the gates.
"Um... Sure, I'll take the red one, bye!" Haneul exclaimed, running through the red door.
Yeonjun was taken by surprise, so he quickly walked across the blue one.
They were now in the hall of mirrors and neon lights. There was dance music playing and to be honest, it was pretty amazing.
"Wow I love this!" Haneul exclaimed "Yeonjun?"
"I'm here, where are you?" He responded. "Oh there, I see you!" He saw her reflection in one of the mirrors, but when he thought he had reached her, he ended up laughing loudly when he noticed it was a mirage.
The same happened to Haneul a couple of times. They kept laughing like two kids.
As soon as they found each other, they kept laughing. Haneul took Yeonjun by the arms and he placed his hands on hers.
"Are you the real Yeonjun?" She asked, laughing and lifting her hands to touch his face. She squished his cheeks and they both laughed.
"It's me, now please stop or you'll get me deformed" He chuckled, grabbing her hand "Let's go to the next room!" He exclaimed, dragging her with him.
The next one was the shout room. Music played in the background and the floor had a spiral hypnotic style. Yeonjun released the grip on her hand and they looked themselves in front of the mirror, goofing and joking around.
"This would be a great place for selcas" Haneul said "Too bad I left my phone outside" She shrugged.
"What if we take a break and sit here?" Yeonjun said, not even waiting for her answer before he was already sitting on the floor with her legs crossed. "Let's take some advantage of this good music with no one around before we keep draining our energy" He smiled, patting the spot next to him.
Haneul smiled and sighed, sitting next to him. She hugged her knees, turning her head to look at the blue haired boy beside her.
"What do you want to talk about? Isn't this a bad moment for that?" She chuckled, he just smiled and shrugged.
"I think a little break wouldn't hurt" He assured "We can talk about anything".
She diverted her gaze to look around and let out a soft breath.
"I can't believe it's going to be christmas in just two days" She admitted.
"I know... Time flies"
She nodded.
"It's been half a year and I still don't know how I'm going to make it"
Yeonjun smiled.
"You're strong, and you're not alone"
She smiled back, bitterly.
"I know... But sometimes... It does feel like I'm lonely" She confessed "I mean, I know all of you will always be around, or my parents... But none of you can actually be 24/7 around me. There are times when I feel alone and that's when the emptiness hit me"
Yeonjun stared at her, then looked down at his hands, deep in thoughts. He hated it when Haneul was sad, that's why he always tried to make sure he was around her as much as possible... But she was right, there was no way he could be around her all the time.
"I know it's hard... But I promise you, we'll always be here for you whenever you need it. And in four days we'll go to our trip and I promise you will have a great time with us"
He looked back at her and she smiled in response. The idea of spending more time with them made her happy. It was impossible to forget the pain, but they surely helped her to ease it, at least a little bit.
"I'm really excited about it"
"Me too"
"He would've loved to come here" She smiled "I miss him"
Yeonjun smiled sympathethically.
"I miss him too."
Haneul looked at him, and smiled again.
"I'm glad I have you, Yeonjun. You've made my days a lot brighter"
She didn't even know where did that honesty come from, but the words that came straight from her heart just slipped fro her mouth. Yeonjun's eyes shone under the dim light of the room, with his lips curling into a soft smile. The silence filled the room, and suddenly she couldn't keep looking into his dark orbs. She stopped for a second, finding the moment to bring something that was on her mind up.
"Yeonjun"
"Yeah?"
"Why were you glaring at me when we were in the pools?"
Yeonjun frowned, remembering what he had in mind just a couple of hours ago. He then smiled.
"When? I didn't do such a thing"
Haneul raised an eyebrow.
"When I shared a towel with Beomgyu"
He let out a humorless laugh.
"I don't know what you're talking about" He said, patting on her head.
"I think you were jealous"
Yeonjun scoffed.
"You wish, doll"
That's what he said. He wouldn't admit it, but he was, indeed, very jealous. He was having so much fun with her, when they were together they were like a perfect team. He didn't want anyone else to share such a special bond with her, just himself. He was probably being selfish, but he couldn't imagine that beautiful face she made when she laughed being for someone else. She was so beautiful, oh no, so beautiful it felt hypnotizing. What was happening to him? He couldn't even stop staring. But she was so beautifully oblivious. He adored her innocence. More and more each day.
Maybe he was starting to understand what Rocky saw in her. Maybe he was noticing how easily someone could fall for her, and she was completely unaware of it.
"Sure... Then why did you want to come here with me so desperately? So much that you didn't even allow your precious Wendy to join us?" She smirked, teasingly.
He rolled his eyes.
"My precious what? And like I said before, there were only two girls in the group, I paired up with her before, it was your turn" He grinned.
"How considerate of you" She rolled her eyes.
"That's how I am" He winked.
"Wendy wasn't happy though"
Yeonjun chuckled, shrugging.
"I mean, she's a bit moody anyways"
Haneul giggled.
"Do you like her?"
Her question took him by surprise. He looked her in the eyes and frowned in confusion. Why would she ask such a thing? Did he do something wrong to make it look that way? If she knew... If she only knew. But of course she wouldn't... Because he couldn't even go to terms with it himself. He knew he felt something, but he refused to believe what it was. He had put a blindfold on himself. He didn't want to see the truth. It was something that wasn't supposed to happen.
"Uh, she's pretty" He confessed "But... I don't think so. Well, I don't know" He shrugged.
"Then why do you let her be so clingy?"
Yeonjun smirked. The way her brows knitted together along to her head tilted to the side was completely and absolutely adorable. You didn't have to be a genius to notice how irritated Haneul got when Wendy was around. It could've been because of the way Wendy acted, but since she was only around to be with him, he was hoping within him, that the reason was something else.
"You sound like the jealous one now" He teased, but she didn't know that his words were partially true. Haneul huffed and pushed him, standing up as he giggled.
"Okay time to go before we get kicked out of here" She said, feeling nervous suddenly, his piercing gaze was too strong and she was wondering when did their jokes start to feel different at some point... So she just decided to ignore it, reading the instructions. Yeonjun stood next to her, the height difference was huge, but only the mirrors were witnesses of it. "So now we need to--"
"Shout as loud as we can" Yeonjun completed the sentence.
She looked up at him and smirked, he looked down at her and did the same.
"Ready?"
He nodded.
"One, two, three!"
They screamed at the top of their lungs, making a red flashing light go on, ending with a laugh before they went to the next mission.
A climbing rope up an angle against rolling cylinders was what they found next.
"You go first so I can have a laugh" Haneul said, gesturing for him to go. Yeonjun raised an eyebrow and grabbed the rope, fixing his pants as he got ready.
"Of course you won't have a laugh because an innate athlete" He assured cockily. However, his words didn't follow his actions. He struggled quite a lot trying to climb up, which resulted on loud chuckles from the both of them, especially Haneul. "What's funny? Come here then you girl of the jungle, expert on climbing"
Haneul chuckled, grabbing the rope and climbing up. She struggled less than Yeonjun, but at the top she ended up tripping and if it wasn't for Yeonjun catching her, her face would've hit the ground. She felt the embarrassment increasing within her, and her flustered cheeks burned when he giggled, still with his hands around her waist. She pulled back quickly, trying her best to keep her pride and pretend nothing happened.
"Now we have to slide down" She said, sitting down. Yeonjun shook his head and sat next to her. "One, two, three!" She counted.
They slid down the rolling cylinders and had laughed loudly on their way down. As soon as they reached the end, they stood up and turned around to see who had won.
"I won!" She exclaimed, with her hands up in the air "Haneul of the jungle won over the innate athlete over here!" She teased, making him huff in response.
"We haven't finished yet. Let's go!" He said, dragging her with him again.
They had to crawl on smaller places this time surrounded by netting, struggling but having fun until they found a poster that said they needed stamina for the following rooms filled with obstacles. Like a total wipeout, ninja warrior kind of room next, making him jump or squat to go through them trying their best not to fall. A hallway with broken glass and bricks on the floor was next. It was quite narrow, so they stepped slowly holding hands.
"Is this real glass?" She asked.
"I don't know, step on it to find out" Yeonjun grinned, gaining a glare from Haneul, who walked behind him with his hand holding hers.
"Go ahead this time. You need to climb up these rocks and I'll follow you into this tunnel shoot" He said. She nodded and climbed up, finding a tunnel of netting that was almost completely dark.
"It's so dark ugh" She complained.
"It stinks like sweat" Yeonjun muttered. Haneul laughed.
A huge ball pit with large rubber balloon like balls waited for them when they were out. They needed to make their way out through those huge balls and it was so hard that they couldn't help but laugh although they were already exhausted.
"Don't leave me" Haneul whined, trying to reach out for Yeonjun's hand at the other corner. He extended his hand but the balls were so big they couldn't even touch.
Yeonjun was out first, almost being ejected by the pressure of the balls. Haneul was next, almost smashing her face on the floor as she laughed. Yeonjun helped her up and they walked together to the exit as they talked about how fun that was.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
An hour or so later, the group was reunited again. Everyone was exhausted but had fun. Wendy and Kai were the last ones to exit, and she didn't look happy at all.
"How was it?" Beomgyu asked with a smile, amused by the look on Wendy's face.
"It would've been more fun if I didn't have Wendy complaining every two seconds next to me" Kai confessed, not giving a single fuck about what Wendy could think.
"That place was stressing me out, it smelled bad and this guy didn't offer a single hand to help me out" She complained, with a frown and her arms crossed.
"I vote for her not hanging out with us ever again" Kai said after he rolled his eyes, raising his hand.
"Not like I wanted to be with you. I came here for Yeonjun" She responded, looking back at Yeonjun, who was too busy giggling and talking with Haneul to pay attention. "Yeonjun!"
"Sorry, what?"
"You've been neglecting me the whole evening! I'm exhausted. You're always behind her like a lap dog and everything she does is treat you the same way as she does with the others. You're not special, can't you see? But to me, you are!"
Yeonjun stepped forward, with a strong glare in his, eyes, smirking at her.
"You're not as much as a sweetheart as you try to make it seem, huh?" He muttered, firmly. Listen to me... you're a good girl, but as far as I remember, I don't have any kind of obligations with you. I invited you because I left you alone yesterday and I felt like I owed you something, but if you can't get along with my friends, then don't worry, because now I know how much of a mistake bringing you here was" He spat, turning around to walk away, but stopping mid-way and looking back at her "Oh and don't worry baby, this lap dog knows perfectly where his real home is".
She couldn't believe what she heard, so she just angrily grabbed her stuff and walked away, with all of their eyes watching her leave. Taehyun, with a blank expression, turned his head and looked at his friends.
"Yeah well... Who's hungry?"
