Seventeen
Haneul looked at herself in the mirror, applying a bit more of lipstick before she felt satisfied with the way she looked. She smiled, fixing her hair with her fingers and then grabbing her purse. She went downstairs and walked straight to the door, her parents weren't home so she didn't have to worry about anything.
She had her earphones on, listening to some music as she walked to the pizzeria where she would see the boys. The wind was as cold as only winter could make it, which made her lips a get dry. Soon, she spotted the place and smiled, taking her earphones off and entering the place that welcomed her with a warm temperature.
Looking around, she realized none of them had arrived, so she just picked a big table and took a sit, taking off her coat.
"Would you like to order something, miss?" A smiling waitress asked, appearing in front of her.
Haneul smiled, shaking her head.
"Not yet, I'm waiting for someone, thank you"
The waitress bowed, walking away.
She admired the way the pizzeria was already decorated with christmas stuff. It felt full of hope, comfortable, and the smell of freshly baked pizza was a great plus.
Haneul sighed, grabbing her phone from her purse and scrolling down on social media as she kept waiting for her friends. She rested her elbow on the wooden table, and her face on her palm.
"You're here early"
Haneul looked up, surprised by the sudden masculine voice. It was Beomgyu, who smiled before taking a seat in front of her.
"I arrived a few minutes ago" She said, tucking her phone inside her purse again and willing to give him all her attention. "Where's the rest?"
Beomgyu took off his jacket and placed it on the free chair next to him. Sighing, he lifted his hand and ran his fingers through his hair so his bangs wouldn't get in the way.
"They said they were on their way when I left my house. I'm sure they'll be here soon" He assured "How are you feeling today?"
"I'm actually great. I have good news for all of you" Haneul smiled, winking.
Beomgyu keeps quiet, brows scrunched in confusion. A hint of what she meant popped in his head, but before he could even ask, they heard noises coming from the entrance. Haneul and Beomgyu turned their heads to see what was happening, and they instantly felt embarrassed to see Taehyun, Soobin and Kai all trying to walk through the door at once.
"What the--" Beomgyu hissed with his brows furrowed in disbelief. Haneul, on the other hand, placed her hand over her mouth, trying her best to hold back her laughter.
"My feet entered first!" Kai exclaimed, crossing his arms over his chest. Beomgyu and Haneul looked at each other with a hint of disgust.
"It didn't. It was mine, you were half a second late" Taehyun stricked back, his expression blank.
"My legs are longer, of course I entered first" Soobin assured, pouting his lips in annoyance.
Everyone was looking at the three of them, and the secondhand embarrassment was too strong at that point for Beomgyu and Haneul to ignore it.
Haneul sighed, covering her whole face behind her palms as soon as she felt the stares on them. Beomgyu stood up with his gaze glued to the floor, not saying a word and just dragging the other three to the table.
"Sit now and shut up" He demanded, trying his best to ignore the people whispering and giggling around them, then took a seat himself.
"We were just discussing who entered first and who was the last one" Taehyun said. Beomgyu glared at them, probably feeling the desire of smacking all of their heads.
"I entered first" Kai repeated.
"Guys..." Haneul spoke, but they ignored her.
"You didn't, just accept it"
"Guys, um..." Haneul tried again, but it didn't work.
"I don't have enough money to treat!"
"Can you all please stop? Yeonjun hyung hasn't arrived yet. He is going to pay, now please shut up before we get kicked out of this place" Beomgyu said in a low tone, trying to hide his face behind his hand at the side of his head.
The boys finally stopped talking, and just stared at each other before bursting into laughter.
All the eyes were on them once again, but this time Beomgyu and Haneul couldn't help but join their silly friends.
"Should we start ordering?" Soobin asks as soon as they stop laughing, rubbing his belly and portraying a pleading look on his face.
"But what about Yeonjun hyung?" Taehyun asks right after, resting his face in the palm of his hand nonchalantly.
"He's going to pay anyways, let's just order" Kai insisted, lifting his hand to call the waitress, who hurriedly approached to take notes. "Three pizzas, please. One with double cheese"
"And one with pepperoni"
"I don't mind the toppings" Beomgyu said, shrugging.
They all turned their heads to look at Haneul, but she just shrugged as well.
"I'm fine with whatever you order, guys" She smiled, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear just when she noticed someone jogging towards them.
"Hey, sorry I'm late" Yeonjun said as he gasped for air. He probably came running in a failed try to avoid treating the others. He pulled an empty chair back and sat next to Haneul, with whom he locked eyes right away, smiling. She mouthed a simple "Hi" for him with a subtle smile painted on her lips.
"I hope you brought enough money. We just ordered three pizzas with four drinks, and we still haven't ordered your drink" Kai said, smirking victoriously and making Yeonjun frown.
"And there's still the ice creams left" Taehyun shrugged.
Yeonjun huffed in response, giving up to the inevitable.
"The only thing I'm going to argue about is... Was it too much to ask for you to order my drink?" He complained, raising an eyebrow.
"But we didn't know what you'd like" Beomgyu said. Soobin looked at them and cleared his throat. ganining their attention.
"Yeonjun hyung would've liked a beer" He assured, scratching the back of his neck.
"Then why didn't you just order?" Kai asked, rolling his eyes.
"My thoughts exactly"
"Guys, it's okay" Haneul interrupted. She lifted her hand and called the waitress, who approached quickly to their table. "I'm sorry, our friend just arrived. Would you please bring a beer as well?" The waitress nodded with a polite smile "Thank you" Haneul said, when the girl bowed and left. "See? It's not that hard" She shrugged.
Yeonjun smiled at the gesture, caressing her head with the palm of his hand. She clicked her tongue and pushed him gently, giggling.
A few minutes had passed, the group of friends were joking around and talking about random stuff until their pizzas arrived. They sniffled contently the amazing smell of pizza and didn't hesitate to start eating.
"Oh god, I wish I could marry this pizza" Kai said, taking a bite. "I'd be Mr. Pizza" He added, chewing.
"That sounds like some tv show for kids" Taehyun said, chuckling before he took a sip of his drink.
"The pepperoni is really spicy" Beomgyu said, blowing on his steamy slice of pizza.
"Blowing it won't make it any less spicy" Kai said, frowning in confusion. Beomgyu glared at him.
"I'm blowing it because it's hot dumbass"
"At least my money won't go to waste, this sensual pizza is totally worth it" Yeonjun exclaimed, humming as he took a bite, the melted cheese making him throw his head back and suck on it.
Haneul absentmindedly glanced at him, with the straw between her lips. Yeonjun was incredibly focused on his food, enjoying it until his tongue darted out and swiped away the moisture of the sauce, leaving them glistering right after. When she realized she was staring longer than she should have been, she cleared her throat and decided to speak.
"Oh guys, I almost forgot... I have good news" She said, grabbing a napkin and wiping her mouth.
They looked up at her, not bothering to stop chewing on their food. She chuckled at how basic her friends were when it comes to food.
"What is it?" Beomgyu asked, still with his mouth full.
"Hey, don't talk with food in your mouth" Yeonjun scolded, with his mouth full as well.
Haneul shook her head and smacked the back of Yeonjun's head, who just looked at her in confusion.
"Anyways. I'm going to the trip!" She exclaimed excitedly, fists in the air.
The boys looked surprised, and their eyes shone in excitement. Some of them almost choking on their foods, they started cheering.
"I knew you would! It's going to be so much fun!" Kai said, Soobin and Taehyun nodding.
"Really?" Yeonjun asked to her lowly, a bright smile on his face. She grinned, nodding. "Cheers to that!" He said, lifting his glass.
The group of friends celebrated, until an unexpected guest appeared.
"Yeonjun! I can't believe we both decided to come to the same place!"
The feminine voice coming from behind made the boys turn their heads. Unfortunately for Yeonjun and Haneul, they could not pretend they didn't see her, because they were facing her directly. Yeonjun's smile turned awkward, and Haneul's vanished when she looked at the girl that who knows why, appeared everywhere.
"Oh, hi Wendy" He smiled "Yeah my friends and I planned to go out today"
She grinned, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear.
"What a coincidence" She said, scanning the people around the blue haired boy "It seems like my friends aren't coming" She pouted "Do you mind if I join you guys?"
The group just exhanged glances with each other, not knowing what to do. They didn't know the girl and for sure they didn't want her to be there, but since Yeonjun was the only one familiar with her, it wasn't their decision to make.
"I-I... Um" Yeonjun stuttered as he scratched the back of his neck nervously. His eyes traveled to every single one of his friends, pleading for any kind of excuses, but he got nothing.
Haneul sighed. She was uncomfortable, she didn't understand why this girl was suddenly everywhere following Yeonjun... She seemed obsessed with him. She didn't want to be rude so she just glued her gaze to the table, playing with the napkin between her fingers. At some point, Yeonjun and her locked eyes for a second, but she looked away and he got the hint. There was nothing he could do, he wasn't capable of just saying no to her, no matter how much he didn't want her to be there.
"Sure, Wendy" He smiled as the thought of wanting the floor to just swallow him right there and then spinned through his head.
The girl looked way too excited, walking around until she stood right next to Yeonjun.
"Excuse me, Haneul, would you mind if I sit next to him?" She asked innocently. Haneul internaly groaned and rolled her eyes, thankfully her back was still facing her at that moment.
Haneul turned her head and forced a smile.
"Sure, no problem" She said, standing up.
The other boys said nothing. They were just spectators in that circus. However, Beomgyu stood up from his seat and took an empty one from an empty table so she could sit next to him. She smiled at him gratefully, he just smiled back at her.
"Are you okay?" He whispered in her ear, she nodded and forced another smile for him before she lifted her hand and gently ruffled his blonde locks.
Wendy sat next to Yeonjun, not even caring about making conversation with the others. The atmosphere had changed so fast that no one dared to just keep the previous conversation going. They were all uncomfortable, she was a stranger to them and they didn't even know how to act since she didn't even seem very welcoming. Yeonjun looked incredibly uncomfortable as well, but he was so nice that he just kept trying his best to seem happy with what was happening.
They kept eating silently, except for Wendy who kept talking about some incredibly irrelevant things to Yeonjun, who just nodded at her words.
"Do you still want the ice cream, guys?" Kai asked, unsure if he should've said that. The first one to respond was the black haired girl.
"Oh I'd love it! We could share one, don't you think, Yeonjun?" She asked, turning her head to look at him. He just smiled, visibly forcedly.
"Yeah, that'd be good"
Haneul rolled her eyes.
"I'll go and buy them" Soobin said, standing up.
"I'll go with you" Taehyun stood up next, following him.
"We better go and help as well" Kai proposed, gesturing Beomgyu to follow him, which he did.
It was only the two girls and Yeonjun left in the same table. Yeonjun kept sneaking apologetical glances at Haneul, and it was like they were having a secret conversation the other girl wasn't aware of.
"I see you're doing better" Wendy finally spoke, looking at Haneul.
"Yeah... I've been working hard on moving on with life" She responded, trying to be polite.
"I heard that you attempted suicide" She then said, raising an eyebrow "But Yeonjun saved you" She added, throwing flirty glances at Yeonjun and touching his arm. He looked down at what she was doing and sneakily moved his arm away before he cleared his throat.
"I don't think we should talk about that kind of stuff" He said, hoping she wouldn't go any further, but she just grinned.
"Why not? That's the past... And that just shows how amazing you are... You're like a prince, a hero" She said, looking at him and brushing his bangs with her fingers. "Don't you think, Haneul? If he hadn't been the only one who paid attention to you, you wouldn't be here today"
Yeonjun's eyes widened. He looked at Haneul's expression and then turned his head to look at Wendy in disbelief.
"I'll go with the boys, please excuse me"
Haneul stood up from her seat and walked towards the counter where the boys were ordering. Yeonjun pressed his eyes shut and rubbed his temple, letting out a sigh.
"I thought she was doing better? She looks like she's still too sensible" Wendy said, shrugging. Yeonjun opened his eyes and looked at her.
"That was uncalled for, Wendy" He firmly said "Excuse me, i'll go to the restroom"
Yeonjun threw his napkin harshly on the table and stood up, leaving the girl on her own. She just rolled her eyes and sighed, grabbing a mirror from her purse and checking on her looks.
On the other hand, Haneul excused herself and exited the place when she spotted someone who was gesturing for her to meet outside. She felt her stomach dropping when she saw his face after all that time.
"Haneul..." He muttered.
"Rowoon"
"It's been a while... How have you been?" He timidly asked, feeling nauseous to be facing her after all that happened because of him.
"Yeah... I'm doing better. It's been hard, but I've been getting help" She said, rubbing her arms to soothe the goosebumps away.
He nodded, looking down at his feet.
"I hope you can forgive me... It's all my fault"
She stepped forward and placed her hand on his shoulder.
"I already did, Rowoon. It was an accident"
He looked up, his eyes were watery. She couldn't imagine how bad he was feeling with such a guilt on his shoulders.
"Thank you, but I was responsible" He sighed "I think about that every single day"
"I know, but you need to forgive yourself and let it go... So maybe, you can heal someday"
Rowoon kept silent, but nodded. He opened his bag and grabbed a box, handing it to Haneul.
"This is for you".
---------------------
Yeonjun walked out of the bathroom and approached his friends, with Wendy following behind. He looked around, but when he didn't see Haneul he just knitted his brows together.
"Where's Haneul?"
"She's outside talking with some guy" Kai said, eating his ice cream.
"What? Which guy?" Yeonjun asked, even more confused.
Beomgyu ran his spoon on his ice cream before he introduced some in his mouth.
"I don't know, she said she knows him"
Yeonjun didn't understand, so he decided to go outside.
"Yeonjun, wait!" Wendy shouted, but he ignored.
As soon as he looked around, he saw them. Anger filled his whole body when he saw tears in her eyes. Feeling his blood boiling, he just rushed to them. Haneul saw him with her pheripheral vision, so she turned her head, but in mere seconds Yeonjun just grabbed Rowoon by the shirt, taking him by surprise and punched him in the face.
"Yeonjun! What are you doing?!" She yelled, but he didn't listen.
Yeonjun hovered over him and kept punching him in the face angrily.
"I told you to stay away from her!" He shouted
Haneul tried to pull his sweater but he was stronger, so she just screamed for help.
"Yeonjun!" She squealed "Stop!! Beomgyu! Soobin!! Help!"
They instantly appeared and rushed to try to stop him. Soobin grabbed Yeonjun by the waist and pulled him away with Beomgyu's help.
"Hyung, stop!" Soobin forcefully said, struggling with his friend's weight.
"Don't go near her, it's your fault all that has happened!" He angrily spat "Who do you think you are to appear when she's doing better and make her cry?!"
Haneul crouched next to Rowoon and helped him to sit up.
"Stop it! What are you doing?! You're acting like an animal, idiot!" She shouted, tears streaming down her face. Her words were enough to bring him back to earth and freeze him.
Soobin placed him on the floor and he stopped moving, but kept sending daggers to his old friend with just his eyes. Beomgyu grabbed him by the shoulders.
"Hyung, look at me" He demanded "Compose yourself, what's wrong with you?"
Yeonjun just panted in anger, with two of his friends trying to calm him down and the other three helping Rowoon, who didn't even fight back.
"Your knuckles are bleeding!" Wendy whined.
Yeonjun looked down at his hand, and huffed.
"I'm fine" Was all he said, before he walked away leaving everyone dumbfounded.
