Nineteen

It was early that morning, the sun had risen not that long ago and Haneul was already in front of the mirror, trying a couple of bikinis for the pool day she was about to have with the boys. She looked at herself from head to toes, feeling nervous and anxious with the idea of showing a big part of her bare body to them. Yes, they were really sweet and respectful guys, and yes, they were really close, but that didn't calm her nerves. The only one who had seen her wearing so much clothes, or none at all, was Rocky.

She never was this self-conscious before, and she wasn't sure of why she was feeling that way now. It's not like she needed them to find her attractive, it's not like she needed approval... And it's not like she had an ugly body shape either. Still... There was this hidden need of wanting to impress. Who? She didn't know it herself.

A red polka dots bikini was the one she was trying now. It made her skin look a lot more pale, and since she had a small frame and a tiny waist she thought that maybe, just maybe, she was showing off too much skin.

Should I really wear this? Hmm... What if I wore an entire body swimsuit instead? No... That'd make me look like a grandma. I could just wear this and put some high waisted shorts on? Ugh... I think that will do.

She grabbed one of her favorite shorts and put it on along with a spaghetti top and sandals. She styled her hair up in a messy bun and sighed, placing all the things she needed in her bag. A clean towel, a hair comb, sunscreen. As soon as she was ready, she grabbed her phone and walked downstairs to have a quick breakfast until the boys arrived. Her parents were still asleep and she kept feeling nervous for some reason, so she just ate a few pieces of fresh fruits.

When her phone started buzzing with an incoming call, she almost dropped the plate she was holding.

What's wrong with me? I'm so dumb hehe

She placed the plate in the sink and took a deep breath before she picked up the call.

"Hello?"

"Are you ready? We're outside" She heard Yeonjun say from the other side of the line. Her eyes widened, and stuttered a few times before she was able to respond with a simple "Okay"

She turned the lights off and grabbed her keys, exiting her house and shakingly locking it. She then threw them inside her bag and turned on her heels, seeing Yeonjun standing with his back leaned against the car with the door open, waiting for her to get inside. She flashed a smile when he greeted her with his warm one, and started walking towards him. She giggled when she heard the noises that came from the inside of the car, these boys were too loud and messy.

"I hope you slept well, because today will be a long day" Yeonjun said as soon as she was close enough. His blue hair looked brighter than ever under the sunlight, as he stood there with one of his hands in the pocket of his bermuda shorts. Black t-shirt on, his usual silver necklace and earrings and a pair of black vans. He was dressed really casual, but he looked good and she stared at him not so discreetly. He noticed and lifted an eyebrow feeling a bit confused, but smirked anyways. "Are you okay?" He asked, trying to meet her gaze.

That's when she reacted. Why was she feeling and acting so weird that day? She shook her head in a try to focus in the real world. She smiled and nodded.

"Yeah, sorry, I'm still a bit sleepy" She said. Yeonjun, not really convinced, nodded at her and gestured for her to get inside, which she did.

As soon as she entered, the boys greeted her a bit too excitedly. She couldn't help but laugh, it seemed like they had already eaten a bunch of sugar. How could they be so energetic that early?

She sat between Yeonjun and Kai, who wouldn't close his mouth the entire road. She was a bit tense at first, since she is still terrified of being in a car, but it was a short trip so it should be fine.

When they got there, everyone just rushed inside and threw their bags on the floor, undressing in a hurry to just get inside the pool. Haneul on the other side, took her time to get ready and feel confident. She didn't know they'd be in an indoor pool, and felt a bit dumb for bringing the sunscreen she wasn't going to need.

Yeonjun stood next to her, scrolling down on his phone. She turned her head to look at him, confused by the fact that he was still fully dressed and not inside the pool with the boys splashing each other. She noticed he had his hand still bandaged.

"Aren't you getting inside?" She asked, frowning in confusion.

He looked up and gently smiled at her, however, there was a hint of apologies behind that subtle smirk. He scratched the back of his neck nervously, and she just tilted his head.

"Uh yeah, it's just that I still have to wait" He explained, placing his phone on the table.

"Why?"

"I still have to wait until Wendy arrives"

His words took her by surprise, and not in a good way. She looked at him with disgust and disbelief, making him instantly feel remorseful to her.

"Are you serious? Why did you invite her?" She asked, a bit annoyed. It was not only the fact that she didn't know about it, but how uncomfortable that girl made her feel as well.

"I'm sorry, please don't be mad at me" He said with pleading eyes "I left her alone yesterday and felt like I owed her one" He sighed.

Haneul rolled her eyes and huffed just in the precise moment Yeonjun's phone started buzzing. He grabbed it, and looked at her as if he was asking for her permission. Haneul just shrugged and turned around to focus on her stuff.

Yeonjun inhaled and exhaled, answering the call and leaving the room right away.

"Hey noona, what are you waiting to get inside?" Kai asked from inside the pool, waving his hand in the air to capture her attention. She tried her best to forget about Wendy and smiled.

"I'm coming! I'm just getting ready" She assured, before they kept joking around.

She took a deep breath and decided to undress piece by piece. They were her friends, they wouldn't say anything bad to her. It's not like they cared about her looks anyways, right?

She took off her top first, placing it inside her bag, and then took off her sandals and her short. She rubbed her arms, trying to soothe the nervousness and shyness away, and just made her way to the pool.

"Wow, noona, looking good!" Kai praised, probably trying to make her feel more comfortable. She was sure they had noticed how insecure she was feeling, or so she thought.

"Where were you hiding all that huh?" Beomgyu teased jokingly, making her giggle. "Come on, just get inside before I get out of here and push you"

She touched the water with her toes, flinching at the cold temperature that sent chills all over her body.

"Oh my God, it's freezing!" She whined.

She heard the door open and turned her head to see. Wendy walked in, swinging her hips before she started to undress in front of the table. She just rolled her eyes and turned her head again in the boys' direction.

But what she didn't notice was that Yeonjun had walked in right after Wendy, and unconsciously got lost at the sight of her in that red bikini.

She finally got inside the pool, and he seemed to be spacing out when Wendy's voice brought him back to earth.

"What are you waiting for? Come on, undress!" She said happily, now fully undressed.

Yeonjun smiled forcedly and nodded, taking off his shoes and his shirt. He gave her a quick glance, and she had a nice body, but somehow he wasn't feeling really interested. Wendy, on the other hand, stared at him like he was a piece of meat, like a hunter would look at its prey.

Yeonjun ruffled his own hair with his hand, and stepped forward to look at his friends inside the pool.

"Is it too cold?" He asked with a smile.

"Freezing, but you'll get used to it" Haneul responded with a soft smile that quickly vanished as soon as Wendy grabbed Yeonjun by the hand and jumped in the water, splashing everyone.

When Yeonjun rose back to the surface, he shook his head to get his hair off the way. He could hear the others laughing and talking, but the first thing his eyes found was Haneul's, who stared back at him.

He tried, he seriously tried to not stare at her that much, but he was failing terribly. The way the water reflected on her face, the way the water droplets ran down every inch of her skin was making him feel some kind of way. He didn't know what it was, or why was that happening, but that day he was finding so many mesmerizing and beautiful things in her simplicity. Her dark eyes were shining brightly under the sunlight that came from that glass ceiling, and when Beomgyu splashed her with water and started a little fight with her, all he could focus on was how authentic her laugh was being. How her small round eyes turned into little crescents, how enchanting that little mark under her left eye was.

Her smile was bright and white as snow itself.

God she's so cute and wow her laugh is so adorable and Jesus Christ her smile is the prettiest thing in the entire world.

But what was that? What on earth was Choi Yeonjun thinking. Was it the drinks he had the day before? The lack of sleep?

His admiring was reciprocated, but he didn't notice. The truth was that Haneul, although she kept mentally scolding herself, she couldn't keep her eyes away from him either. She was more auspicious than him, cause she took every chance he gave her to look at him when he wasn't looking. She didn't know why she kept looking at him, probably because it was the first time ever that she had seen him half undressed. Why was she looking at her best friend? at her late boyfriend's best friend? Yeonjun's body was nothing compared to how Rocky was, but there was still something that made her feel intrigued.

His skin was flawless and was in perfect contrast with the bright blue of his hair. His pink, pouty lips, those ones he kept running his tongue on and nibbling unconsciously just to leave them glistening after, looked cuter each time she looked at him when he spoke.

And to Yeonjun, there wasn't much to do either with his thoughts. He was feeling frustrated by the mess he had in his brain.

Wendy jumped on Yeonjun's back and wrapped her legs around his waist and her arms around his neck, almost making him lost his balance and causing him to cough roughly for swallowing water. Everyone looked at him worriedly, but all he could think about was how crazy he was. What he was thinking before was ridiculous and unacceptable. He didn't know what had gotten into him, he loved Haneul, she had become his best friend, but that was just weird.

"Are you okay?" Haneul asked with concern as he kept coughing. She placed a hand on his shoulder that Wendy quickly shove away.

"He is" She spat, glaring at her "I'm sorry I took you by surprise Yeonjunnie" She said with a pout.

Yeonjun finally recovered and looked at Haneul with a smile. Her pissed expression thanks to Wendy instantly softened once again.

"I'm okay, don't worry, I just swallowed water" He assured, and Haneul nodded.

"Let's play chicken fights" Kai said out of the blue, gaining the attention from all his friends.

"What?" Soobin asked, confused.

"That game of four players where one has to sit on their teammate's shoulders and try to make the opposites fall?" Taehyun asked.

"Exactly!" Kai exclaimed. "I'd be the referee of course"

"Wait, why is it called chicken fight?" Soobin asked again, more confused.

"Yeah, what has this thing to do with chickens?" Beomgyu agreed, asking.

"I have no idea, who cares? Let's play!" Kai said "I'll pick the teams"

"I'll be with Yeonjun" Wendy quickly objected, lacing her arm with his and smiling. Yeonjun forced a smile in response.

Kai rolled his eyes.

"Okay whatever" He said "Beomgyu hyung and Haneul noona vs. Taehyun and Soobin hyung"

"I can't lift Beomgyu!" Haneul whined, making them chuckle.

"Are you calling me fat?" He asked, raising an eyebrow and making her laugh.

"Don't be silly, of course he will be the one to have you on his shoulders" Kai said. Haneul giggled and nodded.

"Okay but how do we do this?" Soobin asked, running his hands through his wet hair.

"I say the one who wins the first encounter goes against Yeonjun hyung and Wendy's team. The team that loses has to buy us food" Taehyun proposed. Soobin frowned.

"No way, not again. My wallet still hurts because of yesterday"

"It's okay I'm paying for everything today" Yeonjun said, palming Soobin's back.

"Then what do we get if we win or lose?" Haneul asked.

"What if we just enjoy it and no one really loses?" Beomgyu stricked back.

Everyone kept silent for a moment, but nodded in agreement.

"Okay then let's get ready" Kai said.

Soobin and Beomgyu stretched his arms and got ready before diving so their partners could sit on their shoulders. Haneul squealed a bit when she sat on Beomgyu's shoulder, the thought of falling scaring her a bit too much. Taehyun was already on Soobin's shoulders and they didn't seem bothered at all. Soobin was probably used to this kind of things and to be fair, Taehyun wasn't that heavy either.

"Beomgyu please don't let me fall" Haneul whined, making everyone giggle.

Beomgyu grabbed Haneul's thighs tightly, almost nailing his fingers on her skin until he got the perfect balance.

"Okay, one, two, three, go!" Kai said, starting the game.

The place was filled with the sound of their loud laughters. Haneul intertwined her fingers with Taehyun's and they kept pushing on each other, wanting to be the winners.

Yeonjun, Kai and Wendy just watched. They were laughing as well, it looked fun and Yeonjun was anticipating the moment where his turn would come.

The two teams couldn't stop laughing more and more, causing Taehyun to lose his balance and fall on the water. Haneul lifted her arms victoriously.

"Yay!" She exclaimed. Beomgyu then submerged again and she got off his shoulders.

"That was fun" Taehyun said happily. Soobin kept trying to compose himself and stop laughing.

The moment had come. Yeonjun got ready to lift Wendy on his shoulders so she could fight with Haneul in what he thought would be an innocent game. They were ready to start, and he felt this little fight a bit personal since she was paired with Beomgyu instead of him.

"One, two, three!" Kai counted, starting the fight.

Haneul's and Wendy's hand instantly laced, but everyone was shocked when she pushed Haneul a too hard when the game had just started. She not only fell on the water, but it was a hard fall.

Beomgyu and Haneul went to the surface. He wiped his face with his hand and turned to look at Haneul with concern.

"Are you okay?" He asked. Haneul's face scrunching in pain. However, she nodded.

"Yes, don't worry" She responded, glaring at a smiling Wendy who was now off Yeonjun's shoulders.

The blue haired boy didn't even know what to do. It was obvious that she pushed Haneul harshly on purpose, and the rest of the boys were mad about it. Not to mention that her harsh movement made the wound on his hand sting even more with the contact of their skin crashing together. But he didn't mind about that wound anyways, he had more things stinging inside that were way worse.

"That wasn't fair at all. This was supposed to be an amicable game, you were really rude" Soobin said, his tone firm.

"Yeah, that wasn't cute" Taehyun added.

Beomgyu placed his arm around Haneul's shoulder and rubbed it.

"Yeah, thank you Wendy you just ruined the fun" Kai honestly said. She looked offended.

"I was just playing. I didn't mean to be rude" She said, looking at Yeonjun with pleading eyes. No one believed her, and deep down, Yeonjun didn't either.

"You could've hurt her, or Beomgyu. Wendy, stop being so aggresive" Was all he said, not even looking at her.

Hours passed and they were hungry and tired, so as soon as everyone calmed down, they got out of the pool. Everyone took their towels and wrapped themselves, feeling cold for the change of temperature. Haneul looked for hers in her bag, but couldn't find it.

"What's the matter?" Yeonjun asked when she noticed the frown on her face.

"I can't find my towel" She said, still rummaging through her belongings.

She was feeling too cold and couldn't even think straight.

"Share with me, please?" She asked to Beomgyu, who stood next to her wrapped up in his own towel, her body shaking with chills all over again. He didn't argue, and simply nodded with a subtle smirk, lifting an arm to let her nestle beside him and share some of his warmth. She muttered a thanks when he passed her the end of the towel and she wrapped it around them.

Wendy looked at them and decided it was a good idea. Yeonjun just stared at the two in front of them, unconsciously sending glares when Wendy grabs the end of his towel and cuddles against him, making him look at her in confusion.

"I lost my towel too" She said innocently, wrapping them up and making sure to press her body as more as possible against Yeonjun's.

Yeonjun didn't even pay attention to her, he was too focused on his own feelings. He was feeling irritated by the way Haneul had been choosing Beomgyu instead of him the whole day. He knew perfectly well that she was upset because Wendy was there, but that didn't mean she had to be glued to Beomgyu the whole time. She was his best friend, the girl he cared about the most. He knew she was really close to Beomgyu as well, but he still felt betrayed. He felt like he was being replaced, and he couldn't understand why. He wouldn't have hesitated to choose her over Wendy to share towels with anytime, or choose her for whatever she wanted. But there she was, having such a tight complicity with one of his best friends whilst he had this rude little brat cuddled on him.

Haneul, indeed, noticed the way he kept glaring at her. She didn't understand and even tried to ask him what was wrong with him by gestures, but it didn't work. She thought that maybe she had done something wrong or that he was still mad for the previous incident at the pool. She wasn't going to be bothered by it, he was the one who had decided to invite her to go anyways.

"So, what's next?" Kai asked, breaking the silence.

"Food. I'm hungry" Soobin said.

"And then?"

"Eat well, this day is far from being over" Yeonjun finally spoke, smirking as soon as everyone turned their heads to look at him.

He had planned the whole day perfectly well, and the best part was about to come. They would need to make teams again, but this time, he wouldn't let anyone stop him from pairing up with Haneul.
