8: Hospital Wing
"Now that's just idiotic."
Honestly, I had to agree with Hermione. It was three days after the plan to get back to 1996 had been hatched, and we had been working on the concept for the marauders nonstop. For a break, Sirius begged Hayley once again to watch the quidditch practice, and this time, Hermione, Remus and Peter had came.
Hermione and Remus had been talking quietly about whatever they talk about, until Hermione decided to watch Sirius and James play. She didn't know anything about quidditch, but she did know that Sirius made a pretty stupid move just to impress Hayley.
He was playing the beater again, and the three chasers from the Gryffindor team were heading towards the goalposts. Sirius had a clear shot; he could have swung his beater bat so that the bludger hit the first player with the quaffle, and the player would have to swing on to his broom, losing the quaffle. Which would then leave the other two chasers, which the second beater could take care of, hitting the third chaser, and the second one would be there with nobody left. The quaffle would drop down below, and Sirius could be set up so that when the remaining chaser dove down to get it, Sirius would aim a perfectly positioned bludger attack on them.
But no.
Instead, Sirius decided it would be cool to stand on his broom, then try and hit the bludger from there. He maneuvered his broom to fly in circles, which he apparently thought would make him look polished and suave.
Instead, Sirius accidentally hit James, who was searching for the snitch, and James fell off his broom, yelling a string of curse words.
Sirius then attempted to regain himself by grabbing the bludger and attempting to hit the second chaser, but then miscalculated and it resulted in him being thrown off his broom.
Hayley winced as Sirius hit the ground.
"Ei, has Sirius lost a couple brain cells?" Peter asked, looking at the fallen figure of Sirius.
"Honestly, I think he never had any to begin with." Said Remus thoughtfully.
Ron and I kept our eyes on James, because when he fell, it didn't look like he was getting up. I leaned over the edge of the railing to check if my dad was alright.
"Guys, is James alright?" I asked worriedly.
Remus and Peter rushed over to the side of the railing, and their eyes widened as they saw James tumbling around on the grass. Sirius was just getting up a few metres away.
"Don't tell me he broke his ribs again!" Remus groaned.
"When was the last time he broke his ribs?" Hermione said, flipping the page in her book. She was laying back in the seats on the stands, her eyes peeking over the page.
"Back in fourth year." Peter sighed. "He got pushed off by a jealous Slytherin seeker."
"He was in the hospital wing for quite a while," Remus added.
"Why was he staying in the hospital wing for so long?" Hayley asked curiously. We all returned to our seats, as we watched Sirius run over to James and call the team. "Madam Pomfrey can fix broken ribs in a day."
Peter and Remus snickered. "Yes, but he wanted to see if Lily would come and visit him in the hospital wing." Peter said.
"James said if she did, it was an act of 'true love'." Remus said.
"Lemme guess, she never showed up." Ron guessed, leaning back in the seat.
"Bingo." Remus replied. "So after five days of waiting and faking pain, he gave up and left."
I laughed, that definitely sounded like something my dad would do. Hayley looked worriedly at James' fallen figure, who was now surrounded by his teammates. Sirius was trying to get a good look at James, to see how injured he was.
"Should we go see him?" Peter suggested, standing up.
"Sure, lets meet him in the hospital wing." Hermione said, as we all got up.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As we entered the Hospital Wing, I looked around and realized how much had changed. There were different posters on the walls, promoting health. The beds were farther apart, and they seemed a bit bigger as well.
Madam Pomfrey was younger, and clothes were messy and stained with what looked like blood.
Suddenly, we heard a voice. "Hey guys." James said weakly.
We followed James voice over to the back corner, where he was laying, already bandaged up.
"Broken ribs?" Hermione guessed, looking at the amount of bandages he was wearing. James tried to hold up his arm, which had a bulky cast on it.
"As well as my left arm, and left leg." He added.
"Where are your glasses?" Ron asked, peering at James. I could tell he could barely recognize my dad without them.
Remus walked over to the other side of the bed, and picked something up from off the bedside table. "I see they're broken." He observed.
"Is Madam Pomfrey giving you Skele-Gro?" Hermione asked. "You've taken it before, right?"
James nodded, then winced in pain. "Do you think Lily will come visit me?"
Remus rolled his eyes. "James, not this again."
"I can ask her." Hermione told him.
James brightened up. "Great!"
As we left the hospital wing, I whispered to Hermione, "Are you actually going to ask Lily?"
Hermione shrugged. "Probably not. I don't want to do anything that would mess up your parents getting together."
"Oo, then Harry wouldn't exist!" Hayley said. I slapped her arm playfully.
"Thanks." I grumbled.
Peter and Remus were walking along side us. "What are you talking about?" Remus asked suspiciously.
Before I could answer, Hermione said, "Hayley was making a joke about how much Harry looks like James."
"Oh ok." Remus said, but I suspected he didn't let it go.
Hayley looked around. "Where's Sirius?"
"Probably with the rest of the team." Peter answered. "They're getting some get-well cards ready for James."
Remus tapped Hermione on the shoulder. "Hermione, I need some help on the French stuff you gave me." He said.
"Oh- uh, yeah, sure I can come take a look." She followed Remus out of the corridor, then said, "Bye guys!"
We stopped walking. I glanced over at Ron, who's smile was now a frown. Peter shifted awkwardly. "I should get going..." He said. "Bye!" Then he ran away.
I realized that was the first time we had been together with Wormtail in our time here.
When we were sure they were gone, Hayley said quietly, "Harry, have you given anymore thought to the watch?"
I gulped. I didn't want to think about it.
