Chapter Twenty-Three
After the sparring match, it was nearly time to go out on patrol for the night, and Mikey was over the moon about it.
"Can Madi come? Can she? Can she? Can she? Pretty pretty pretty please?" Mikey begged Master Splinter and gave him the 'puppy-dog' eyes. Splinter looked from Mikey to Madi. She stood there next to Mikey, his arms tightly wrapped around her in a huge bear-hug. The skillful kunoichi looked up at her sensei as well and shrugged her shoulders, unable to explain how quickly Mikey had gotten a hold of her when he literally had been in the other room when Leonardo announced patrol would be underway shortly. Splinter's ears twitched and a smile appeared on his face.
The other turtles, April, Jacob, Em, and Lisa all waited for his answer. Raph, Donnie, and Mikey personally wanted her to come just because they felt like it would be a great way to spend time with her. Kicking Foot-butts and Kraang rear-ends was always something they could bond over.
April, Jacob, Lisa, Leo and Em didn't want her to go, though. They had just gotten her back and even though they could tell that she could defend herself, they didn't like the fact she would be going back out into danger. Em just wanted to get to know her more since they literally just met hours ago. And Leo didn't want Madi showing him up any more than she already had that day.
"I am not the one you should be asking, Michelangelo." Splinter explained. "Madi is perfectly capable of making choices on her own and I trust whatever decision she makes." Leo felt his blood pumping as his anger began to boil. Splinter hadn't said anything like that to him before, and he had been training him his entire life. Madi had only gotten five months worth of ninja experience with his sensei.
Mikey quickly turned his face to Madi and made her the next victim of his 'puppy-dog' face. Only this time, he jutted out his bottom lip and whimpered silently to add more effect. Madi covered her eyes in mock-pain.
"No! Not the puppy eyes!" She remarked and turned away.
"Please, Madness! Pretty pretty please!" Mikey begged on his knees.
"C'mon, Madi." Donnie said as he walked over to the two and put his arm around her shoulders. "Why not join us? It'll be fun!" Madi could see Raph's fists clenching and his face turning as red as his bandana when Donnie's arm had slid over her shoulders and rested there from the corner of her eye, but pretended as if she hadn't seen any of it. She'd talk to him about it later.
"O-"
"Are you sure that's the best idea, sensei?" Leo suddenly spoke up. All eyes shifted over to him. The leader of the Turtles had his arms folded and a look on his face that said 'This is not a smart decision at all'. "I mean, maybe she should settle in for a little bit before she sets out. Maybe spend some time with her family-"
"But we are her family, Leo!" Mikey exclaimed and got to his feet, then draped his arm over top of Donnie's so they both were on Madi's shoulders. Madi laughed and put her two hands on the backs of their shells. Leo rolled his eyes.
"You know what I mean, Mikey." He stated. "I'm talking about her mother."
"It's fine, Leo." Lisa told him, even though there was a sliver of hesitation in her voice. "When she gets back, we can all order pizza to celebrate her return home and talk then."
Madi, Mikey, and Donnie all jumped up in the air at once, pumping their fists with joy. Madi hadn't had pizza for nearly half a year and to be quite honest, she really missed it. Raph just glared at Donnie with his arms crossed.
"Then let's go!" Madi stated. They all were about to run out of the dojo when Splinter held his hand up to stop them.
"Wait, my children." He said and began to walk over to the large bamboo cabinet where they kept all of their weapons. "I think that if Madi is going to be an offical part of your team, then she needs the proper equipment." The giant mutant rat reached his hands into the cabinet and pulled out something that Madi would never forget.
The most beautiful pair of twin kamas Madi had ever seen in her entire life.
The blades were as long as her forearm and slightly curved at the end like a normal kama and they had hilts a little longer than that, but that was where the similarities ended.
On the top of the blade towards the pointy end, it had three bent smaller blades that lined the very crest of the weapon, each one nearly an inch long. After the end of the last blade nearest to the hilt began a jagged row of spikes that poked straight up; it reminded Madi of a saw. Towards the back of the weapon, the end of the kamas' split into five different curly hooks sharper than the tip. The hilts had little vines engraved in the smooth wood, providing an easier grip and making it harder for the kamas to slip out of her hands.
They truly were beautiful weapons.
But deadly as well.
"Sensei-"
"Please, take them. As a gift to you." Splinter told her before she could refuse. She was speechless, and so was everyone else.
If Leo hadn't been jealous before, he certainly was now.
"Thank you, Sensei." Madi said and wrapped him in a huge hug, careful not to hurt him with the new kamas he had given her. Splinter hugged her back. Once they had finished embracing, Madi slid the kamas into her belt and looked over at the guys, a huge grin on her face.
"So, are we gonna go out on patrol or what?"

Madi followed the guys out of the manhole that lead to the lair and up the nearest fire-escape. Once they had gotten to the nearest roof-top, they stopped and formed a plan. Leo suggested that they split up- His brothers immediately volunteered to team up with Madi.
"No, I will decide how the teams work." Leo scolded them, then thought for a second of how he'd split them up fairly. Madi and Mikey were too close, so to torture her for being Splinter's new favorite, he wouldn't pair those two up. Donnie really liked Madi now and since he was the second person to suggest her to come with them on patrol, but Raph really liked her as well. Which meant neither one of them would be partnered up with her, either.
Leaving only him.
"Madi and I will be covering the northern part of the city. You three will be covering the southern part. We'll meet back here in a few hours." His brothers groaned in complaint, but knew that he was leader and had to do as he said. The three turned south and started walking to the edge of the roof, Leo and Madi headed in the opposite direction. If Madi was disappointed at all by the arrangement between the two of them, she obviously didn't show it. Maybe she knew he was mad at her and didn't want to anger him further by objecting.
