Chapter Twenty-One
"This reminds me of the time when we celebrated Jacob's birthday at your old place. Remember when you made that horrible cake that everyone hated?" Madi laughed. Jeff put his hands on his hips, obviously faking a frown as he mockingly puckered his lips in a pouting fashion, causing Madi to laugh even more.
"You're just jeal-"
BOOM! BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!
The sound of bombs going off echoed through the apartment, throwing Madi and Jeff to the ground. Sam let out a loud bark, barely heard over the noise as the dog lept down, joining her master on the floor. Madi covered her head with her right hand, holding Samantha close with her left as the ceiling collapsed down on top of them.
BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!
The explosions kept coming like rapid fire, shaking the building and the ones surrounding it. Madi kept her eyes squeezed shut as the weight kept baring down on and around her frail body, still healing from the trip to the hospital. Sam whimpered by her side, knowing that Madi was in pain. The smell of smoke began to drift through the air as fires began to break out where power-cords had been damaged, causing Madi to cough.
"Madi!" she heard from underneath the rubble and debris. Jeff. He was still alive. "Madi, can you hear me?" he shouted as he struggled to lift the chunks of ceiling off of her. Sam whimpered again as she attempted to help by trying to stand up, pressing her back against the large chunk of metal on top of them.
"Jeff." Madi coughed. A piece of debris in front of her face was quickly thrown out of the way, creating a small hole. Jeff jumped down, looking through at Madi.
"Madi, are you okay?" he asked her quickly. Madi coughed again.
"Considering the fact that there's a ceiling on top of me, I'm not doing so well, no." she replied. Jeff smiled, relieved that she was feeling all right enough for sarcasm. She gave him a small smile back and he stuff his arm into the small hole towards her.
"Take my hand. I'll pull you out. But we need to hurry." he told her. "These explosions caused some fires that could possibly get to the electrical wiring system, which could blow this whole place up in smoke."
"I think Shredder already did that. Here, help Sam out first." Madi said as she started to push Sam from behind, while Jeff grabbed onto one of her paws. Sam yelped as they struggled for a moment, then got her out completely. Next was Madi. Jeff stuck his hand back in towards her.
"Here, take my-"
BOOM!
Jeff let out a shout of pain as he was thrown to the ground by one last explosion, flying shrapnel and debris peppering him with cuts and scrapes as they dug into his skin. Sam had been fortunate enough to be close to the ground, which meant she didn't obtain as much damage as Jeff had. His body hit the ground with a loud THUD! as he landed on his stomach. Then was motionless. Madi's eyes widened and her heart began to beat rapidly in her chest.
"Jeff." she said, then let out another cough.
Silence.
"Jeff, can you hear me?" she said. Sam sniffed him, then licked his ear. He didn't move. "Sam, help me out of here." Madi told her dog. Samantha stuck her head into the hole and let Madi grab her collar, allowing her to drag her out from underneath the large pile of debris. Madi quickly got to her feet and looked around, realizing just how much damage the bombs had done.
There was no ceiling.
At all.
There were no walls either, it was like they were on the roof. Small fires lined the edge of the building where the power cords and electrical wiring were and had been damaged, which was dangerously close to them. Madi didn't take too much time to look around, though. She was too concerned about Jeff at the moment. She quickly knelt down beside him, rolling him over onto his back. Her eyes almost jumped out of their sockets as she saw all of the blood on his chest. She began to shake his shoulders slowly, then gradually gaining speed as tears began to well up in her eyes.
"Jeff, wake up." she said, trying not to cry. His eyes remained closed as the blood continued to pour from the deep injuries on his torso. Sam sat down on the ground beside her master, her ears sagging sadly as she realized what had happened. "Jeff....Jeff, come on... We gotta go." Madi whimpered sadly, using all of her strength to keep her tears inside. His lifeless body stayed still, his heart no longer beating.
Madi held him close, hugging him. He couldn't be dead. He couldn't be. He just couldn't be. Madi kept telling herself that, thinking that maybe if she repeated it in her mind, it wouldn't be true. He couldn't lose him. He was like a father to her, he couldn't just leave her behind like this. Not when she needed him most.
"Jeff, don't do this to me. Don't do this to me, please." she whispered, her eyes squeezed closed tightly. "You can't leave me, Jeff. You can't leave me."
Sam nudged Madi's arm, letting her know of the danger that they were in. But Madi didn't care.
"Go find my mom, Sam." Madi told her. The German Shepherd was hesitant, whining and whimpering, not wanting to leave Madi's side. When Sam nudged her arm again, Madi shoved her away. "I said go get help!" she shouted at the dog. A sad look appeared in the dog's eyes, but she obeyed her master and lept onto the fire escape, running down to the ground.
"Well, isn't this tragic." Madi heard a voice say behind her. It was a feminine voice, a young one as well. The girl who had spoken was obviously Madi's age, or older. And mocking. Madi stood up, anger flooding through her veins. This girl was the reason Jeff was gone.
This was her fault.
Madi turned around to face her, her hands clenched in fists at her sides. When she saw the girl, she wasn't surprised. It was the same ninja that had attempted to kidnap her last year, but she had failed. Madi had gotten away with only a broken left arm, while the girl's Foot ninjas had left without limbs.
"You." Madi hissed in anger.
"Yeah, it was me. The trap was intended for you, actually, not that guy." The evil kunoichi told Madi, fueling her anger.
"Did you come to have small-talk or finish the job?" Madi snapped, changing the subject. The girl smirked.
"You really want to get down to business, don't ya, Madness?" Madi shouted in anger, lunging to attack the girl with nothing but her bare-hands. The Foot commander side-stepped, attempting to avoid Madi's anger-based attack, but that's what Madi had wanted her to do. By side-stepping, that had given Madi the opportunity to snatch one of her weapons from her belt which, luckily for Madi, had been two kamas (a japanese weapon once used for reaping crops, but was then used for weapons).
Madi had been training with kamas recently, and they were a personal favorite, too, since she had used them when she was younger while training with her father before he had died. Holding them tightly in her hands, she stood in a defensive position a few feet away from Shredder's servant as she turned around. The smirk on the girl's face made Madi sick.
"Well, now that you're armed, we can start the real fight."

Leo was watching his daily dose of 'Space Heroes', sitting right in front of the TV like he usually did every day, when the message popped up onto the screen. His eyes widened as he realized what was going on and turned the volume up all of the way so that his brothers and everyone else could hear it throughout the lair.
"We interupt your original programming to bring you this urgent news. The Diamond Hotel has been attacked."
The sound of the broadcast caught everyone's attention and they immediately ran to the living room to see what was going on.
"Isn't that where Madness lives?" Mikey asked, his eyes widening. Raph could feel his heart pounding rapidly in his chest, feeling like it was beating over a thousand miles an hour. A picture of the hotel appeared on the screen, making everyone gasp in terror or get sick to their stomachs. The entire top floor was obliterated, the roof was no where to be seen.
Raph felt his heart drop down to his toes. This was his fault. If he hadn't have exploded on her earlier, then she would've stayed. He had ticked her off, now she could be dead because of him. He bit the inside of his cheek, trying to keep himself from letting out a huge sob of regret. He should've kept his mouth shut.
She could be dead because of him.
"The explosion took place a little over five minutes ago, when witnesses say they saw someone strapping something to the brick walls outside the thirtieth floor."
"Karai." they all hissed simoltainiously, knowing exactly who would've done something like that.
"We need to go check if she's okay." April said quickly. They all agreed without question and immediately left the lair, racing through the night to what remained of Madi's home.
