Chapter Seventeen
Raph smashed his fists against the punching dummy that hung from the ceiling in their living room. It had been three days since the incident with Daniel, but he was still fuming-mad about it. When Madi had woken up, nobody bothered to tell her about Daniel being a member of the Foot clan. He didn't understand why they wouldn't just come out and tell her. Sure, it would hurt her feelings and break her heart, but at least she'd be safe. If she broke up with him, then he wouldn't be such a threat to her. To them. To him.
"Woah, Raph, chill out, bro." Mikey said as he put his hand on his brother's shoulder. The poor punching bag was barely hanging by a thread, small piles of stuffing lay on the ground scattered everywhere. The red-masked turtle took a deep breath, trying to control himself.
"It's just that I can't stand this. Some one needs to tell her before she finds out in all the wrong ways." He stated, his arms crossed over his plastron.
"But it's not our choice, bro. If April and the others think that she shouldn't know, then we don't have a say in the matter. No matter how much you like her-"
"I don't like her." Raph denied. Mikey just smiled and rolled his eyes.
"Sure you don't." Raph's younger brother said sarcastically.
"Seriously, I don't." Raph denied again, even though he knew it was a complete lie. Mikey rolled his eyes. But before he could say anymore about the matter, he was interupted by the sound of two girls talking as they entered the lair. The two guys turned around to face the dooe as Madi and April walked into the living room from the sewers.
"-and flowers, too. He's really sorry for what he did." Madi said to her red-headed friend. The blonde looked stiff, obviously from her recent trip to the hospital within the past week, and there were dark circles under her eyes. April had updated the guys about Madi's condition while she was in the hospital since they weren't allowed to see her themselves. And from what April had said, Madi hadn't gotten much sleep because of the pain she had been in while healing. Madi's mother had asked for pain-killers, but the nurses told her that it would've made Madi's blood too thin and she would've started to bleed again.
"Just because he does sweet stuff like that doesn't make what he did any less bad. I mean, putting you in the hospital? That's just messed up." April said to Madi as they walked to the kitchen, completely not noticing the two guys. Madi sat on the top of the table, flinching in pain as she did so, but wiped the agony-caused look off of her face as April opened the fridge and tossed Madi a bottle of water.
"Madster! Madness! My pizza-eating BFF!" Mikey said as he ran to her. Before Mikey could hug her, she held her hand out in front of her, stopping him. His smile fell and a confused expression appeared on his face. "Madness? What's wrong?"
"She's still in pain, shell-for-brains." Raph said as he walked over to the table, standing by Mikey's side. "I should've hit him harder before he could've hurt you."
"It wasn't his fault, he was just being protective." Madi defended her boyfriend, opening her bottle of water and taking a drink. Raph scoffed and rolled his eyes. April sat on the table beside her best friend, crossing her legs.
"I brought Madi down here because I was hoping that maybe Donnie could make some sort of pain-killer without thinning her blood too much-"
"April, I'm fine." Madi snapped at her as she tried to stand up, but flinched in pain as her shoes touched the ground. Mikey put his hand on her shoulder. The fear and concern were obvious in his eyes. Raph had the same expression.
"That isn't fine, Madness." Mikey told her.
"I'm breathing, aren't I?" Madi snapped at him.
"She gets crabby when she hasn't had any sleep." April stated. Madi glared at her.
"When was the last time you slept?" Raph asked her. Madi was silent for a minute, staring at the floor. "Madi, when was the last time you slept?" Raphael asked her again, folding his arms and glaring at her. The recovering girl let out a sigh, then answered.
"Saturday night." she admitted. Their eyes widened.
"Saturday? You haven't slept for four days?" Raph asked, trying not to yell. Madi nodded.
"Madness, this really isn't good for you. I don't know much about human anatomy, but I think you need more sleep than that." Mikey stated, slinging her arm around his neck and helping her walk in the direction of Donnie's lab. April jumped off of the table as she and Raph followed the two.

Donnie was in his laboratory, experimenting on a new invention he had currently been working on. He had been spending every free moment he had to perfect the small object resting on his table-top. The small silver piece of metal was around the size of a credit card and was precisely an inch thick. A small red button sat in the very middle. Right now he was nearly done with the wiring inside, then all he had left to do was attach it to the metal belt he had created a few days priar. After that, his gift for Madi would be finished.
"Don!" Mikey's voice echoed through the lab. Donnie jumped, nearly knocking the small device off of the table. Catching it in his hand and hiding it behind his back, he turned around to yell at his younger brother. But he held his tongue when he saw that Mikey was helping Madi walk. He set the small device on his table, then ran to Madi's side.
"What's wrong?" the brainiac asked quickly.
"I'm fine." Madi hissed again.
"She needs pain-killers that won't cause her blood to thin, otherwise her lungs will fill with blood." April sighed. Donnie spoke quickly after that.
"Then you came to the right place." he told them, leading Madi to a small couch he had found and was using as an examination table when his brothers needed medical attention. Mikey gently set her down on it the cushions as she layed her head down on the arm-rest. Donnie pulled up a chair and sat beside her, a syringe in his hand.
"Woah, what are you using that for?" Mikey asked quickly.
"Yeah," Raph said. "She's bled enough."
"I just need a blood sample to see how high a dosage of pain-killer she can handle without her blood thinning to the point of bleeding again." Donnie said. Madi's eyes widened at the sight of the needle and she began to scoot away.
"Um, I think I should tell you that I hate needles. And when I say 'hate', I mean 'I'd rather die than get a shot'." Madi explained, her voice cracking with fright. Donnie grabbed her hand with his free one and gave her a small, reasurring smile. The other three noticed this and their jaws dropped.
"Don't worry, it won't hurt a bit. I promise." he told her. She looked at him, trying to control her breathing again. "Just squeeze my hand if you want to." After a moment, Madi nodded and closed her eyes, letting him know that she was ready. Quickly so she wouldn't be in too much pain, Donnie injected the syringe and extracted some of her blood, then quickly pulled the needle out. Donnie smiled at her. "See? That wasn't so bad, now was it?" Madi shook her head and let go of his hand as he quickly put a band-aid over the small bleeding hole.
"How long will it take for you to make the pain-meds?" Mikey asked. Donnie stood up.
"A few minutes, tops." the geek said, walking back to his table to examine the blood sample. Mikey sat down in the chair Donnie had been seated in, taking Madi's hand and smiling at her. She smiled back, squeezing his hand in hers.
"You'll be better soon, Madness. All you need is your meds and you'll be good to go." Mikey said encouragingly. Madi laughed.
"Thanks, Mike." she said to him.
