Letting Go

3rd Person POV

Finally. It was over. Well, not really, but it was finally the winter break. Areum had endured just a few more torturous moments from both Duri and Kyunghee. For now, she no longer had to. For now, she just had to deal with the guys and Haneul, which she did not mind.

"Hey~" Jeongin sat beside her.

"Hi." She smiled. "How'd it go with Eunji?"

A blush crept up his face. "Good." He looked up at Areum. "We're closer now."

"That's good, wh-" Areum was cut off by Seungmin who had just sat beside her.

"Ahahaha, I found this live of Day6..." Seungmin rambled on to Areum and showed her a whole bunch of things as she tried to keep up the conversation with Jeongin at the same time. In a few moments, Felix had approached her and tried to show her some random new dance he had learned. Jisung had also come along and tried to show her some aegyo. Haneul had just come by with Chan to see Areum being surrounded by the others. Immediately, Haneul let go of Chan's arm and went over to Areum. She put her hands on Areum's shoulders, startling her.

"Yeah, and did you see this, they look so amazing!" Seungmin showed her a clip from the live.

"Yeah, that's really cool!" Areum said as she turned to Jisung who was tapping her arm. "You're adorable." She said, poking his nose while turning to Felix. "Great job learning that new dance Felix!" She looked to Jeongin who was talking about Eunji. "Yep, that's cute." She replied before looking up at Haneul. "Help me~" She said silently.

"Too many things happening at once, yeah?" Haneul chuckled. "Don't worry, it'll be over soon." Haneul rapidly turned her head to the right as she felt someone touching her back. "Oh, Chan, it's just you." She let out a sigh of relief. "Hey, Areum?" She bent back down slightly to Areum. "It's my turn to ask you to help me." She chuckled. "He's clingy."

"Hey!" Chan said as he back hugged her. "I can hear you."

"I know." Haneul smiled. "Now, why don't you control your children here."

"Sure." Chan let go of Haneul and started to get the guys to go do something else. Eventually, Chan found himself talking with others, leaving Haneul and Areum alone to talk in the living room.

"They stopped, yeah?" Haneul asked. "That's good right?"

"Yeah it is." Areum agreed. "They'll be out to get me soon." She shrugged. "At least Moonbin's out of it."

"Very true." Haneul made her way around the couch and sat beside Areum. "Do you remember what the guy's reaction was when we told them that you guys gave up on dating?"

"I do." Areum laughed. "They were shocked, they thought we'd last."

"Well, anyways, Haneul put her hand on Areum's. "Have you figured out how you're gonna move and stuff?"

"No." Areum sighed. "All I know is that I have to go back." She looked up at her. "And I don't want to leave."

Haneul nodded. "When will you tell them?"

"How does February sound?" Areum smiled. "I mean, Bin knows though."

"Just tell them ahead of time, okay?" Haneul gave her a curt nod. "Don't just disappear."

"I won't, I won't." Areum assured her. "You know..." She said, about to change the topic. "I think the guys are getting worse." She gestured to Minho and Hyunjin who were giving each other glares as they walked into the living room.

"Unfortunately." She gave a small scoff as she watched them enter. "For you that is."

"Aish-" Areum pushed her lightly. "I will drag you into this too."

The two girls continued to exchange jokes and were teasing each other. In the meantime, Minho and Hyunjin were silently arguing by a wall opposite of the girls. They had been sent out by Woojin to try and work things out, or at least, to cause less of a disruption.

"Yah! Kim Haneul!" Areum pushed her until she was laying on the couch while laughing really hard. They laughed happily, catching Hyunjin's attention.

He turned from Minho to look at the girls and smiled while watching Areum happy with Haneul. Minho turned to look at them as well, eyes lighting up at the sight of the two girls enjoying themselves.

"I told you, it'll never happen." Areum helped Haneul to sit up again. "You know that."

"Well what if it does~" She nudged her. "I mean, Chan and I happened, and y'know, I said it would never happen before."

"Shut up~" Areum threw her head back a little. "You're an acception."

"Aigoo..." Haneul poked Areum.

In silence, Hyunjin and Minho stood side by side, watching the two enjoying themselves. After some time, they both took a seat on the bench by the wall. Quietly, they continued to observe the two girls.

Is this what her smile always looked like? Hyunjin thought to himself. It had been ages since he had seen a genuine smile from her. He forgot how bright it was, how beautiful and happy she seemed too. He sighed as he thought more and more about why she was smiling now and had not been for such a long time. Were Minho and I one reason she didn't smile? He questioned himself. He knew that the arguments, the fights, the division between the two always made Areum unhappy. He knew that she hated when they fought and she hated that they were always divided. Especially over her. Hyunjin thought about what it would take to make her happy again. Was there anything he could do? Perhaps.... Perhaps it was time to really let go.

Minho, on the other hand, felt butterflies in his stomach as he watched her. He suppressed the feeling of being flustered at her happiness, but continued to let the butterflies flutter. He thought about how happy she was and how long it had been since he had seen her that happy. Unlike Hyunjin, Minho was only content to see her smile, he had no thoughts about letting her go, no doubts, he knew that she was the one for him. In his mind, he was thinking about how someday, it could be him making her smile and laugh like that.

"Hyung." Hyunjin interrupted his thoughts.

"What do you want?" Minho turned to him. "I thought we had made a silent agreement to just watch her and not bug each other."

"Well, we never said anything-" he stopped himself as he shook his head.

"Okay, so what do you want?" Minho asked.

"I want to let her go..." He spoke slowly.

"Say what now?" Minho sat up straight.

"I..." He looked at his feet. "I'm letting her go. You can have her. I... I give up on her being my crush." He said those words bitterly.

"Why are you giving up so easily?" Minho eyed him. "And why are you giving her up anyways?"

"Look at her." He gestured to the girls who were now on their phones, fangirling over some group. "She's so happy."

"What does that have to do-" Hyunjin cut him off.

"We were one factor to why she wasn't happy." He explained. "If our fighting and arguing makes her unhappy, I want it to stop." He took a breath. "That's why I'm letting her go. If I simply get over her, no more arguments."

"You're being awfully mature about this." Minho remarked. "But thanks... what makes you want to be the one to give her up, why don't you make me?"

"Don't think I don't notice the glint in your eyes when you look at her." He chuckled, a little sadly. "I see your hope, plus, I know you. You never like anyone. She's gotta be special if you choose to like her."

Minho hummed in response as he turned to Hyunjin. "Thanks." He stuck his hand out. "No more arguing?"

"No more arguing." Hyunjin shook his hand, confirming the agreement. "She's yours now... go get your girl." Hyunjin winked as he walked away. Though feeling sorrow and hurt for having to let her go, he felt happy, knowing that he would be able to make her happy after this. It just took little steps, and he would be the first.
