13: Meeting The Sister's Ex

PERCY PoV

They're all sitting down and looking at me expectantly. I internally groan. I'm so stupid. This is such a mess. I'm putting camp into danger. I'm not taking them to camp- no, definitely not. They're just hitchhiking to nowhere in particular.

"Alright, so can you start explaining things please Percy?" Bruce inquires, wringing his hands.

"Ugh. Yeah. So, please, just let me talk and don't freak out." I say.

"Before we start talking, are you involved with HYDRA?" Tony asks.

I groan. "Hydras suck."

Apparently that wasn't what they thought they'd hear, because  now they are looking at me with confused faces. "What do you mean, Percy?" Steve asks.

"I mean, hydras suck." I say. What are they expecting?

"Hydras?" Bruce furrows an eyebrow.

"Yeah, the monsters with all the heads. What other hydras?" I ask, wondering myself.

"There's another secret-ish agency," Tony begins.

Natasha finishes, "It's the enemy of SHIELD. Started back in the fourties by a Nazi."

"Oh joy." I deadpan. Nazis. So needed those in my life, note the sarcasm.

"So, I think we're safe to assume you aren't involved in HYDRA?" Steve says, though it's still kind of a question.

"Yeah." I confirm.

"Alright, now that that's settled, can you start explaining?" Tony asks.

"Okay. Just um, don't freak out." I warn. They look at me warily, but nod.

"A long time ago, the Greek gods existed. Then the Roman empire grew, and the gods gained Roman forms. With all these gods, there were also monsters, giants, titans, and primordials. The gods follow western civilization, so they followed to America. There's a lot of family history that I won't go into just now." I say, feeling kind of dizzy.

Pulling a 100 foot ship out of the ocean and propelling it away from the shore is exhausting. I'm starting to feel a little nauseous and I'm getting a headache.

"The gods mingle with mortals, and that can mean kids." I say. I give them a look that means they can ask questions now.

"Those gods are real?" Bruce asks.

"I'm standing here, aren't I?" I grumble.

"Woah. Does that mean your dad is a god, Percy?" Tony asks me.

"Ahuh." I mumble back. I'm feeling plain awful now.

"You okay, Perce?" Clint asks me.

"I think I'm gonna pass out." I admit. My head is spinning, and I feel like my guts have been pulled out, knotted, and shoved back in.

"What's wrong?" Bruce is standing next to me in an instant.

"This is just taking a lot out of me, is all." I wave him off.

"What is?" Bruce asks.

"The erm, the sailing." I'm not sure that's the right word.

"You're seasick?" Steve asks.

"He doesn't get seasick." Annabeth says for me.

"Then what's the problem?" Tony asks.

"I haven't done this before." I grumble.

"Done what?"

"Pull a ship out of the ocean and send it sailing at 26 knots." I can't do it much longer.

"What do you mean 'send it sailing'?" Tony asks.

"Did you think Okeanó Spíti had an engine?" I say. "Well, I kind of am, but..."

"You're moving us." Clint says.

I nod.

"What? How's that possible?" Tony asks.

"You're the one who talked about Moses, Tony. I can manipulate water." I say. Speaking of, I'm sweating now. Ew.

"You're an inhuman?" Tony asks loudly.

The outburst is the last straw on my system. "I can't-" I gasp, and I release control of the ship and the water. Okeanó Spíti slows to a stop quickly. The sudden change locks their eyes on me.

"This has to be far enough for now." I mumble.

"Come on, Seaweed Brain. Let's get you some fresh air."

"Ahuh." I'm too dizzy to say anything else.

"Alright. Skatá! Clint, help me out."

A second pair of arms wraps around my shoulders. I think we're walking towards the deck. When the salt air hits my senses, I can breathe easier, but my head isn't much clearer.

"Can I take a nap?" The words slur together.

I hear a slight huff. "Okay. But I'm putting you in the water for a bit."

"Okay." I mumble.

"But he'll drown in his state!" Tony yells.

"Hey!" I mumble loudly. "Shh! And I can't drown."

"What?" Tony breathes.

"It would be pretty sad if I drown." I mumble almost incoherently.

I can't see properly. The world is spinning, my insides reorganized, and my logic went on a vacation.

Annabeth is tying something around me. What is that? Rope? Rope. What is she doing? Oh. She's gonna make sure I don't float away. She's awesome.

"Clint, help me get him over the edge. We probably don't want him to hit his head. He needs all the brain cells he can keep." Annabeth talks.

Clint, I think, picks me up. "Woo!" I voice weakly.

"So, do I just... Toss him?"

"Yeah..."

"I'm gonna regret this..."

"Maybe."

"What the fuck?" Comes from somewhere farther away.

There is movement. Then I feel like I'm falling which makes me feel like puking. I nearly do. Splash. And then a comfortable darkness takes over me.

TONY PoV

My nephew is tossed overboard. "What the fuck is wrong with you?"

"What are you on about?" Annabeth scowls at me.

"Why would you do that?" I demand.

"Water heals Percy. So by letting him take a nice nap, he's going to wake up rejuventated. Unless you want to wait days for him to wake up." She growls at me.

"Um. Um." I stutter. Brilliant. "Days?"

"Yes. I haven't seen Percy that bad since..." She trails off.

"Since?" Bruce asks.

Her eyes squeeze shut. Her fists clench, and her knuckles go white. "It's over. It's over." I hear her mumble to herself.

A bad feeling settles in my gut. I'm starting to really believe that these kids have seen some incredibly... Dark  stuff. Bruce seems to understand too, because he drops the topic.

"Annabeth." Clint says softly. She opens her eyes, and nods at Clint's 'are you okay?' face.

"So how long until he wakes up?" Natasha asks.

Annabeth thinks. "My guess is six hours."

"Six hours? He can stay underwater for six hours?" I gape.

"Six hours? Yeah. That's easy for him." Annabeth waves it off.

"He can go longer?" Bruce blinks.

"What's his record?" Clint asks immediatley after.

"Twelve days. He could've stayed longer." Annabeth states.

"What?" Bruce and Natasha voice at the same time.

"I'll finish explaining for Percy." Annabeth suggests.

Oh great. The gods thing again. "So this whole thing is real?"

"My mother is Athena." Annabeth states.

"Athena? The goddess of wisdom?" Natasha asks.

Annabeth nods. "Wisdom, battle strategy, weaving."

"Who's Percy's dad?" I ask.

"Poseidon." Annabeth says, and there's a darker undertone.

"He's ocean, right?" I ask.

"God of the seas, earthquakes, soil, storms, floods, droughts, and horses." Annabeth says.

"And that explains the water powers... He gets them from his father." I say, though it could be taken as a question.

"Correct."

"Wow. So, more gods?" Bruce asks.

"More? Oh, you're reffering to the Norse gods. Percy told me a little about that. Thor?" Annabeth says.

"Yeah. Thor. How strong are your gods?" I ask.

"What do you mean? They're gods." Annabeth says.

"Like, Thor can deadlift like three hundred. Summon lightling, that kind of thing." I explain.

"Three hundred?" Annabeth raises her eyebrows. "And summon lightning?"

"Yeah." I say, taking some pride in my powerful ally.

"Pfft." Annabeth tries to hide her smile.

"What's so funny?" I demand.

"Are you sure he isn't a demigod?" Annabeth smiles.

"No. He's a god. The god of thunder." I tell her.

"Pfft." Annabeth tries to hide her giggle. "I think Percy mentioned this. Isn't his blood red?"

"Yeah. Blood is red." Bruce says.

"Not god's blood." Annabeth says.

"Then what is it? Blue?" I ask sarcastically.

"Gold." Annabeth says.

"Gold, but, but that's..." Bruce trails off.

"They're gods." Annabeth states.

"So... How strong are they?" Natasha asks.

"I don't know how to describe their power to you." Annabeth sighs. "I just, don't suggest angering any of them. You're just mortals."

"And what's that got to do with anything?" I had enough of Loki calling us mortals.

"You're insignificant. If an an ant bit you, you might step on it. Would you cry for the ant that you crushed so easily?" Annabeth says. "You are ants to them."

"But-"

"Don't insult them." Annabeth says in a deadly tone.

"How..."

"The Olympians like to sit on their thrones in their twenty foot forms and decide someone's fate when they commit a crime." Annabeth warns.

"Twenty feet?" I'm surprised yet again.

"Yes. And that's just their impressive appearances. Our friend Jason is the only known survivor of gazing upon a divine form. He barely lived. He described it as a supernova." Annabeth shares.

We are shocked out of words. A supernova? The only known survivor?

"What would happen if we saw this 'divine form'?" Steve asks hesitantly. I almost forgot he was here.

"You would be incinerated. Demigods might leave a body." Annabeth  informs.

"How is that possible?" I ask.

"Their divine form is practically gazing upon their raw power." Annabeth says.

There is silence for several minutes. We lean against the railing and watch the waves.

"How powerful is Percy?" Natasha asks breaking the silence with softly spoken words.

Annabeth takes a few seconds to answer. "Besides this, I doubt you will ever see him pushed to his limit."

"What do you mean?" Bruce asks in a quiet manner also.

"I have seen Percy lose control twice. The first time, he was just releasing his power. Percy was a hurricane of destruction. Anything in his path was killed. His monster kills rack up to at least a hundred, I believe in those two days alone." Annabeth says. I get chills.

She continues. "The second time was..." Her voice cracks a bit. "He... He turned a goddess' poison against her and nearly killed her. He would have succeeded, I think, if I hadn't stopped him." We all get chills and look into the water. Somewhere below the boy is taking a nap in the depths.

"Just so you understand how powerful Percy is, you need to know that after WWII, the Big Three- Zeus, Poseidon, and Hades- made an oath to not have any more demigod children." Annabeth says.

"WWII?" Steve asks.

"Essentially, World War Two was a big fight between the children of Hades and on the other side Poseidon and Zeus' children."

Steve looks like he wants to comment, but gets lost in thought, like the rest of  us. "But if... Poseidon broke the oath?" I ask.

"He did. After Zeus. Zeus broke it twice, Poseidon once, and Hades didn't." Annabeth says. "Percy spent his first while of being a demigod believing he was a mistake. Poseidon once told him that he was sorry Percy was born." Before any of us can protest, she continues. "Percy was hurt. Poseidon realized that and told him that it was because was destined for a Hero's fortune, and heros rarely ever get happy endings."

We fall into silence again. This is all just so messed up.

The breeze changes, and we feel a presence behind us. I can tell, because we all turn around. Obviously, we're startled. There's a man standing there, looking quite worried. He's wearing a hawaiian print shirt and bermuda shorts.

How did he get here? Bruce, Natasha, Steve and I are on the same track, and ready to fight. However, Annabeth makes a slight bow at her waist, and Clint quickly follows suit.

"Lord Poseidon." Annabeth greets. Oh. Oh. Oh. I see the resemblance now. The raven hair, untamed and wild. The sea-green eyes that look like the calm before a storm. The sharp but strong jawline. The nose in perfect proportion.

"Annabeth. Where's Percy? I felt his presence!" Poseidon says loudly.

"Taking a nap." Annabeth jabs a thumb in the direction of where the rope sinks into the waves. "Summoning the ship was hard on him."

Poseidon's sun tanned features pale. He looks around. "He summoned the Okeańo Spíti?"

"Yes. What is wrong?" Annabeth worries.

"This ship is still in my brother's domain." Poseidon says with a deadly tone.

What does that mean?

Annabeth gapes and her eyes go wide.  "How's that possible?" He whispers.

"I don't know. It shouldn't be." Poseidon says.

"It's still a ship, so maybe it was close enough that it kind of counted?" Annabeth asked.

"Yes... But because it was still in Hades' domain it was much harder than it should of been." Poseidon agrees.

"That would explain why it was so hard on Percy. Because it still wasn't in his area of control." Annabeth adds.

"He impresses me yet again." Poseidon says. He walks towards us, or specifically the railing. When he's still a few yards away, I feel a surge of power. I can tell that it is from him, and that he is much stronger than what I fell from him now.

A pillar of ocean water shoots into the air, and drops Percy into Poseidon's arms. Still standing, Poseidon clutches the teen to his chest. Percy is only a few inches shorter than him, if his head against his father's shoulder and ankles slumped against the floor are anything to go by.

"Oh, my silly boy. I was supposed to teach you how to summon the vessel once my brother finished the paperwork." Poseidon mumbles as he runs the fingers of one hand through his son's hair. "Wake up, son."

Percy wiggles a little bit, and groans. "Sleep."

"Percy, come on." Annabeth says.

"No, sleep." He groans again, sounding genuinely upset.

Poseidon chuckles. It's a deep rumble, untamed energy and joy. It's eerie just how much the figure resembles the ocean.

Percy stumbles back in surprise. "Father!" He says, before violently tipping to one side. He would have fallen if Poseidon hadn't caught him, and steadied him by supporting the boys' weight by his arms.

"What have I told you about calling me father?" Poseidon frowns. Could he be angry that Percy called him 'father' instead of like Annabeth's 'Lord Poseidon'?

My worry dissipates when Percy says, "Right. Sorry... Dad."

"There you go." Poseidon says, grinning wide. I can see Percy's troublemaker smile in it. Percy gives a small grin too. Percy tries to step back and stand on his own, but he immediately loses his balance. Poseidon steadies him again.

"I thought I told you to wait for me to teach you." Poseidon scolds.

"It was kind of an emergency. Sorry Dad." Percy says.

"What do you mean, 'emergency'?" Poseidon.

"So this secret government agency, ehm, SHIELD, has me on their wanted list, and they kind of found me so this was the only safe place I could think of." Percy immediately jumps into an explanation.

"SHIELD? Sounds familiar..." Poseidon says. His eyes wander and he seems to notice us for the first time. "Mortals."

"Ah. Dad. Don't worry. I kinda had to tell them about the gods existing. And um, Tony!" Percy says, giving his head a slight jerk that means 'come here'.

"What?" I worry. Why is he bringing me to the attention of a god?

"Step forward, dumbass." Nat whispers to me. I do as she says.

"Dad, this is Tony Stark. He's Mom's twin brother." Percy says.

"I didn't know she had a brother." Poseidon says.

"There must have been a mess up at the hospital when we were born. I think that HYDRA might have had something to do with it." I decide to risk speaking.

"HYDRA? From WWII?" Poseidon asks. "Yes, Stark, the name is familiar. How did you two meet?"

"Mom is missing." Percy says, his grief audible. Poseidon looks at Percy. I can see confusion, disbelief, and then anger flick across his face.

"You suspect HYDRA is the culprit?" Poseidon addresses me.

I nod. "Blackmail. I'm a prominent figure to them."

Poseidon gives a nod of aknowledgement, and turns his attention back to Percy, who looks nauseous.

"How are you feeling, Son?" Poseidon asks him. Percy gains a brief look of surprise.

"My guts went through a blender." Percy says. "Bad headache."

"I thought similar. You used power that was not yours to wield." Poseidon says.

"I what?" Percy frowns.

"This ship is still considered sunk, Percy. Dead." Poseidon says.

"But-" Percy complains, his eyes wide.

"I understand." Poseidon says. "You're sick. Let me heal you."

Percy looks ready to refuse, before he nods in acceptance. A green and blue light floods through Percy, and the air smells even stronger of the sea than it already does, but it's clean. The light fades and Percy can stand on his own.

"I will see what I can do to find your mother. In the meanwhile, you should  speak to Chiron. He is worried." Poseidon says, before vanishing in a mist.
