12: All Of Us
NATASHA PoV
A few days ago Annabeth came to me. While we were sparring, she asked me for a favor.
Percy's birthday was coming up and she wanted to do something for him. So I helped her.
Now, today is his birthday.
I may have wrangled the others into helping too.
Percy was pleasantly surprised. We play board games, tease him. Watch some Tv, which somehow doesn't quite attract the monsters. Maybe becuase he isn't in contact with the electronics?
Someone (Read as probably Tony) spikes Percy's soda. By the time I realize this, Percy is on his third glass. To be clear, this is his third of the day.
"Tony." I reprimand as he hands it to Percy. Unfortunately Percy downs the glass and rushes back to Just Dance.
I don't know who convinced the kids to use the electronic, but they seem to be having fun. Percy is surprisingly good at it, and also at making an idiot of himself.
"Please refrain from giving the teenagers alcohol," I announce to the group.
"Um, okay." Clint says, not taking his eyes off the game.
"Wait, did someone give them alcohol?" Steve asks.
"Someone spiked Percy's soda." I say.
"Huh?" Percy says.
"Your drink got spiked." I tell him.
"With what?" He asks.
"Alcohol."
"Oh. I thought it tasted a little funny."
"That's all you have to say?" Clint asks.
"Well, it's not bothering me now, so as long as it doesn't become a problem, you get the idea."
Later, Percy is absolutely thrilled by the blue cake. We all eat way too much, and retire to bed.
CLINT PoV
So, super cool and absolutely crazy idea that I belive: The Greek and Roman gods are real, and Apollo is likely my great-grandfather.
I can't really explain how this makes me feel. I wanna smile, but I know it also means trouble. But, it hasn't been a problem yet.
"Clint, Fury's coming in half an hour." Steve tells me.
"Okay."
Half an hour later, we're all in the conference room and surprisingly Tony is only two minutes late.
"Alright. Now that you are all here, let's begin. I've got a bunch of wanteds that should be here in the city. I want you all to keep an eye out for all of them." Fury says. "However, there are a few that I want in custody ASAP. Those will be the files with a little red sticker. Simple enough?"
We all nod.
"ALright. First up-" Fury begins. It's a twenty seven year old.
A couple later and I notice that we have the rottenest luck.
"And this one's a bit unique. Perseus Jackson." Fury starts talking about some of the acts of terrorism when he notices that apparently we all suck at hiding our panic.
"What's got your panties in a bunch?" Fury's gruff voice addresses us.
Steve is the first to collect himself enough to give an acceptable answer. "He's just a kid, Sir."
"I don't particularly care if he's 'just a kid' if he's a terrorist." Fury turn back to the file. "Now, you can find him with..." He trails off.
He looks at Tony, fixing him with a death glare. "What the fuck is this?"
"I don't know what you are referencing sir." Tony says levelly.
"Bullshit. You wanna tell me why you are harboring a terrorist?" Fury rages.
"I am not 'harboring a terrorist', I am taking care of my nephew." Tony spits back at him.
"You wanna say that again, Stark?"
"I am taking care of my nephew." Tony states.
"Stark. Hand him over."
"No." Tony stands.
"Hand him over I will remove him from your custody." Fury warns, also rising.
"No." Tony and Steve say in unison. Steve stands beside Tony.
"Rogers?" Fury questions.
"Not just him." I say, and join them.
Bruce and Natasha stand too.
"All of you?" Fury says.
"All of us." Natasha states.
"Don't make me detain all of you." Fury says.
"Stand down, Director. The situation with the boy is under control." Natasha states.
"He's got you wrapped around his little finger." Fury accuses.
"No. He's innocent." I say.
Fury reaches to call for backup, and ultimately our and Percy's arrest. Everything's about to go to shit. Fortunately, Natasha tranqs him. Unfortunately, that only delays the inevitable.
"Come on, come on, we gotta get them outta here!" I say, and dash for the door. They follow me.
We make it to the hallway. "Percy! Annabeth!" I shout, still running.
They step out confused. "What's going on?" Annabeth asks.
"Come on, we gotta go, we gotta go!" I shout.
They're racing along right with us, and into the elevator. "So what's going on?" Percy asks.
"Our boss. He wanted to detain you, but Nat tranqed him and when he wakes up he's gonna be pissed." Tony says.
"Lovely." Percy says.
"Where are we gonna go? None of our hide-outs are safe, Nat. They've got SHIELD all over them." I pant.
"Um, I gotta place. Kinda. Do you have any rides?" Percy asks.
"You've got a hideout?" Tony asks, also ou of breath.
"Kinda. Do you have a ride?"
"I don't like 'kinda' but I can get a ride. How far?" Tony asks.
"Just to the beach." Percy says.
"Which one?" Bruce asks.
"Any. Well, private would be better. We'd only be there for a minute, anyways." Percy says.
Luckily we're in civis, so we don't stick out extroardinarily as we walk to the car garage. Tony picks the most normal one, at Nat's prodding. We pile in, and we're gone.
"So, help me understand how going to some private beach will help us?" Tony asks his nephew.
"Just trust me for a minute."
"I'm not the trusting type." Natasha states.
Beach. Percy's trying to take us to the sea. His father's domain. He has water powers. "I trust him." I blurt.
"You do?" Bruce asks.
"Yeah." I confirm.
Percy groans. "I'll explain later, once we're safe. I swear."
"Percy." Annabeth chides. He gives her a look, and she lets the subject drop.
The silence in the vehicle is uncomfortable and incredibly tense. Percy is fidgeting with his pen. Annabeth twirls the end of her braid around her fingers.
"This good enough for you kid?" Tony asks as we pull up to a beach.
"Yeah, it's fine." He says, and we tumble out.
"Alright, where's this mystery safe house?" Tony asks.
Percy smirks at him, and points to the ocean.
"We're doomed." Tony says.
"Take that back! If you say it, it'll come true." Percy says, speedwalking towards the water. Annabeth and I follow close behind.
"You gonna explain?" Tony demands, in pursuit.
"Shut up! I need to focus, I haven't done this before." Percy says, and steps into the water.
"Done what?" Bruce asks. I lightly smack his arm and give him the 'sh' gesture.
Percy raises a hand towards the ocean, and his eyes shut deep in concentration. Suddenly, they fly open, and I am startled.
His eyes are sea-green, but they churn like a storm. His presence becomes unsettling, like when a guy three times your size shows up when you left your weapon at home.
Not so far off shore, the water churns like white water rapids. The others look startled, but I'm fascinated.
Something starts to rise out of the water, and I realize it's a boat, no- a small ship.
It bobs to the surface, and water pours over the edges as it floats over to us.
"What the hell..." Bruce breathes quietly.
"What kind of tech is that? How'd you get a hold of it?" Tony asks.
Percy collapses, and his hands bury themselves in the sand. The tide laps across his thighs. He pants.
"Woah!" Steve and I call out.
"You okay?" Annabeth places a hand on his shoulder.
"Yeah, yeah, I'm fine. Just new thing, y' know. It'll get easier." Percy pants.
I offer him my hand, and he accepts, and I haul the kid to his feet, and he wobbles a bit, struggling to balance. "I'm good, I'm good." He says.
"What was that about?" Bruce asks.
"First time summoning a ship. Took more out of me than I'm used to." Percy says sheepishly.
"Summoning?" Steve frowns.
By now, the ship is close. "How are we going to get on board?" Annabeth asks.
"Oh. I uh, I hadn't thought that far, actually." Percy says. "Um, I can make a path and send a ladder down?"
"Sure." Annabeth shrugs.
Percy nods, and the water starts to separate, forming a straight line to the ship.
"Um. What's with the Moses shit?" Tony asks nervously.
"Tony!" Steve scolds.
"I'm not Moses." Percy says.
"You're doing this?" Natasha asks.
"Ahuh. Come on, let's go." Percy says.
So we walk along the floor of the beach or the ocean, I'm not sure which right now, until we come nearly underneath the boat.
Percy raises his hand, and a rope ladder tumbles over the edge. Percy lowers his hand. Annabeth immediately starts climbing. "After you guys." Percy says.
"What?" Bruce asks.
"I gotta stay down here and make sure none of you drown." Percy says.
So, reluctantly, the others follow after me when I'm the second one to start climbing.
Percy's halfway up the ladder when the ocean falls back into place around him. The Avengers start to freak before Percy heads pops up over the water, completely unfazed.
Percy steps on board, and he looks around. He closes his eyes, and I have a feeling that he's using his powers.
Things on the ship start flying around, going into place. We start sailing.
"What the fuck?" Tony yelps as someting whizzes past his head.
"You believe me now?" Percy asks, ignoring Tony's previous yelp.
"Believe what?" Bruce asks.
"That I had a safe place." Percy says.
"Uh, yeah." Steve says absently.
"Are you sure no one will notice a large old fashion sailing boat?" Natasha asks.
"The Mist will make it look like a fishing boat or private yacht or something." Percy says, and it's easy for me to tell he's excited and proud of his ship.
"How old is this thing?" Tony asks as he looks around.
Percy looks offended. "Well, 'this thing' is from 1607, and her name is Okeanó Spíti."
"1607?" Tony freaks.
"Yeah." Percy rolls his eyes.
"How is even still floating?" Steve asks.
"Well, it sunk in 1620." Percy says. "Around the same time as the Mayflower came to America."
"It sunk?" Tony screeches.
"Yep. But it won't this time. It can't, not really allowed to with me on board." Percy muses. I laugh.
Natasha decides to comment. "It does bear a resemblance to the Mayflower."
"Okay. How did you get a sunken ship?"
"Birthday present." Percy says, and before he can continue he is interrupted.
"A birthday present?" Tony reels.
"Yes. From my father." Percy says. He looks around, as if missing something. "Must be held up on paperwork or something."
"What was that?" I ask.
"Dad told me that my Uncle contributed a little bit to my gift. I assume that meant a crew." Percy tells me.
"Your Uncle?" I ask, hoping he'll tell me which one.
"Um, I did no such thing," Tony asks confused.
"Dad's side." Percy waves him off.
"Hold up. Since when have you known your father? And when did you talk to him about- this?" Tony demands.
"I've known my father since I was eleven. He talked to me in my dream the night of my birthday." Percy informs us.
"Um, you did have some alcohol-"
"Irrelevant, seeing as how the ship that he talked about is right here." Percy defends himself.
"Okay. Can you explain the ship and the dream thingy and your father?" Steve asks.
"Yeah, but can we find a nice room first? I wanna explore a little bit." Percy rocks back and forth on his feet, and we are reminded that he is just seventeen.
"Uh, yeah. Sure." Tony says.
We follow him below decks and join Annabeth in exploring.
We marvel at the ship, drinking in the old, vintage style. We find Annabeth in a sitting room of sorts. There are old chairs, somehow in pristine condition. We take our seats, and wait for him to start explaining.
