2.
I snap my eyes open.
Brilliant colors dance across my vision, swirling and mixing into wondrous patterns. I immediately retaliate and squeeze them shut.
They light up even more in the dark. I reach to rub them out, but since there's so little color in my life so I wait...
"Glad to see you can join us." A man's voice. Sneering.
I'm suddenly filled with this animal desire to flee, because that voice has sparked a fear within me.
I thought I was rid of that voice. I ran away from it.
But it's back...
"Dr. Agarius." The name slips from my lips, I can't help it. I try forcing my eyes open to see if it's really true...
He's suddenly there, right in front of my cell. Greasy, slick dark hair and bloodred eyes.
My cell.
I twist around wildly, pushing back my wild mop of bright hair out of my eyes. I'm in a block of white light, effectively trapping me. One touch on the walls would send me hurtling back into confinement.
No...
"Yes." Dr. Agarius giggled.
I run for him anyway, but I am thrown back by a jolt of electricity that travels through me.
Dr. Agarius stands, laughing at my attempt to harm him. "You can't touch me."
I stagger to my feet. "Why?" I rasped. "Why round me up, again and again?"
He smiles. "You know."
I do.
A younger Dr. Agarius, standing, facing me as he explains his plan.
A plan of destruction and evil.
He said that the humans on earth are a disgrace to our powers.
Why have a lesser species wandering around when we can eliminate them? We're so much more powerful.
I used to believe that.
Until I grew up.
We need the humans. Destroying an entire species is a waste.
He countered, saying that with our powers we could rule.
His brain control. My mind reading.
I still refused.
He locked me away, roaring that if I didn't come to my senses he'd destroy me.
He can't. I'm too powerful.
Dr. Agarius started rounding up Enhanced humans to create an army.
It's my job to stop him.
I think about my silent promise I made.
I would never use my skills to destroy humans.
"I'll never work with you." I spat at him. "Never."
He shrugged. "Your loss. Next time, when you come crawling toward me begging for mercy, I won't have it."
I won't have any for him, too.
As the cell I'm in fades to darkness, as the world settles to sleep, I swear to myself.
I'll never let him do this.
Even if it means taking down my own father.
