20. Taboo
"How does he believe a press conference at this time would be the best option?"
"He will be insulted throughout the whole conference."
"I cannot wait to hear how that will go."
Draven turned to Eric who was nervously leaning over the counter where the mirrors were. He continuously reminded himself that this was needed, in order to halt at least part of the abusive comments from the media, those who are disliking both of them due to their infidelity. Eric was being hated for entering a relationship without considering that he was married, and Draven because he was the one married, he was the one cheating.
Draven placed his palms on Eric's shoulders, "We'll be fine, alright?"
After a short pause, Eric rapidly nodded his head, causing Draven to do the same.
They had not gotten back together, but they were on a good note, both of them being civil and respecting that they will need to work together from now on. It's not that Eric's feelings had suddenly dispersed, it was that he was not ready yet to return, and needed time and space to think about everything that occurred.
They heard knocks on the door, and when Draven opened, Eric fell stiff as he noticed the beautiful redhead standing there. Draven smiled when he saw her, and allowed her inside, "Eric, this is my wife, Adelina."
Eric stiffly extended his palm to her, which she gently shook.
Draven then turned back to her, "You have your mic?"
"Yes," she said.
"The papers?"
"Do we really need to-"
"Yes," he ascertained, not wanting any doubts from her.
With a sigh, she nodded her head, "Yes."
As the people started marching in the hall, journalists and reporters prepared their cameras, and their lists of questions. There are many things he needed to explain, and when they finally stepped on stage, all three of them, the entire audience was confused.
Draven grabbed a seat in the middle, waving his hand as a few from the audience cheered. He was still a famous author, and there were loyal fans that promised to follow him through thick and thin.
Eric was nervous, but the attention did not seem to phase Adelina, who waved a palm confidently.
Draven was the one who started, "I heard about the leak to the news stations, and I know it caused a panic in not only the literary world but many other industries as well. I came here to explain what occurred, but also how we are going to move on from this."
Everyone was attentive, the entire hall silent as they flashed pictures, and recorded his echoing voice. "I am married, that is true, but Adelina and I decided to become separated when our relationship faltered. The love I have for her could never change, but she was able to find other people that treat her much better than I ever could with this job."
Adelina started speaking, "I had my own share of partners as well, and if it's the homosexual part that you don't like, I dated a girl during our separation."
The crowd was in shock.
Draven nodded his head, seeing all their attentive eyes and continued, "Hence why we wanted to do this, in front of everybody." He reached the papers and raised it, "Those are our divorce papers."
The crowd fell into a short uproar before Draven continued, "We will sign it in front of everyone, to brandish the end of our relationship."
They then signed, Eric observing both of them with widened eyes, since he had never expected such from Draven, let alone Adelina who was still in love with him.
A journalist then asked, "Even if your relationship with Eric was not being unfaithful to Mrs. Malcolm, your entire relationship with Eric Valence is taboo, he was your editor, what do you have to say about that?"
Draven shrugged his shoulders, "I'm in love with him. If he has to be fired for it to work, then I'll fire myself."
"Is it true that you've been homosexual your entire life?"
"Yes," Draven nodded his head, "it is true."
"Part of the reason you made Eric co-author is because you loved him?"
"And because he's an amazing editor; his writing is flawless."
"Do you have any knowledge on whom leaked the recording?"
Draven paused for a moment, tightening his teeth. He turned to Adelina, who sent him a comforting smile, then to Eric, whose eyes were filled with uneasiness but he smiled at him as well.
Then, he shook his head, "No, no idea."

"Draven, that was great," Adelina said as they returned in the changing room, closing the door behind all three of them, "I'm so proud of you."
"Yea, my pre-orders starting going back up again," he chuckled, wrapping his arms around Adelina and squeezing her tightly, "It's because of you, thank you."
She smiled, then pulled apart, "I'll come visit you tomorrow, we can have some drinks, how does that sound?"
They both heard Eric inhale sharply behind him, and Draven smirked, "Is it okay if Eric's invited too?"
Adelina laughed, "The more the merrier."
After she left, Draven and Eric changed their clothes, without speaking to one another. Draven was unsure what he needed to say, and Eric merely wanted to go back to Jason's. It had been a long day, and he wanted to rest.
However, he knew he could not simply leave without saying anything.
Before he exited, he turned to Draven, "Thank you for what you said today."
Draven nodded his head, "No problem, you deserve it." That was all he said; Eric thought Draven would say something else but when he walked out of them room, Draven let it close in front of him.
He stood outside the changing room for a few seconds, before placing his fingers on the door. He knew Draven would hear this, and he breathed quietly, "I love you."
Draven leaned against the door, wishing he could open it and simply wrap his arms around Eric, embracing him the same way he used to before.
But he knew Eric would not like that, it would be too soon.
Hence why he simply sighed, and replied back, "I love you too, Eric."
