Vivienne rushes to the locker rooms to congratulate Pedri after Barcelona had won the game and had celebrated like tomorrow isn't going to come.

The only thing going on in her mind at the moment is that she's going to confess to the brown eyed boy the minute she sees him. Upon finally reaching the locker room, she stops for a moment to take a deep breath before entering the room with a huge smile on her face.

"Pedri-" Her smile falls down the instant she skids to a stop when she realises that it's not Pedri who's in the empty locker room.

It's João.

His hair is wet, it's evident that he has just taken a shower to clean himself from sweat and dirt clinging to him after the game. He had been in the middle of changing his shirt when Vivienne had accidentally interrupts him. His eyes go round and wide and his jaw drops open a little when he fully realises that the woman standing in front of him is Vivienne Leclerc in the flesh.

They both pause as the take in each other's appearance.

Somehow, they both look so familiar yet out of reach to one another and as this thought crosses Vivienne's mind, a strange sense of deja vu encompasses her senses.

João's the one who breaks the tense silence after some time of staring at the blonde singer.

"I'm not Pedri, I fear." He chuckles awkwardly as he rubs the back of his neck.

Yeah, you're not and you can never be. That's what she wants to bitterly retort to be petty but forcefully bites back those words. Instead of saying anything, Vivienne decides to leave this place as quickly as possible and she silently turns around and starts to walk out of the locker room.

She has only taken a single step in the direction of the door when she hears João call out her name in distress.

"Vivienne, please wait!"

Her steps falter and so does her resolve as she shows a sliver of hesitation. And that millisecond of doubt is enough for João to latch onto her weakness because he knows her inside out.

The moment she stops, João walks over to her with fast and determined footsteps and in one single yet gentle motion, he backhugs her.

"I missed you." He mumbles softly into her ear. "You never replied to my messages."

"Then it should've occurred to you that maybe I didn't respond to your messages because I didn't miss you." She snaps back at him, trying to break free from his hold but quickly giving up the fight when she feels his shuddering breath on the nape of her neck.

"You've changed..." João says after a heartbeat.

No shit Sherlock. Vivienne mentally rolls her eyes.

If she wants to, she can fight with him all she wants. After all, that's how most things got resolved between the two of them. Fighting, crying and then making up. It's always been a vicious cycle of lies and insecurities between Vivienne and João. If Vivienne wants to, she can start a screaming match with João and he would reciprocate it with the same fervour. They can make up at the end of it and then Vivienne can spend the next few months with him living in blissful ignorance until Magui comes back and Vivienne is forced to feed the heartbreak once again.

It's easy to fall back into it.

But Vivienne doesn't want to.

Especially now that she can feel her heartbeat resemble the huff of adorable laughter that leave Pedri whenever he catches her staring at him.

If Vivienne wants to, she can easily get back with João but she doesn't want to do that.

Especially not when she's in love with Pedri.

"What do really want, João?" A tired and defeated sigh escapes her lips as she limply falls back against his chest and then João follows by resting his head on her shoulder.

"Forgive me, please?" His apologetic question comes out as a plea, full of regret and hoping for another chance.

She takes a deep breath before answering him.

"I forgive you," Vivienne quietly replies making João look up at her in surprise with slightly parted lips, "I missed you. These past months without you have been hell and I-I still love you. I can't seem to live without you..."

A beat of silence passes.

João's arms tighten against her waist, squeezing her closer to him as he releases a shuddering breath at the feeling of her warm body against his cold one. His lips gently brush against the exposed skin of her neck as he breathes in her familiar strawberry scent. Another moment of silence passes. He opens his mouth to answer her but she cuts him off as she continues with her sentence, extinguishing any hope that had bloomed inside of him.

"...Is that what you wanted me to say?"

"Huh?"

Instead of answering him, she wrenches herself away from his arms that had been caging her against his chest. His hands fall down by his sides limply as he stares at her in confusion with heartbreak clouding his expression.

"Is that what you were expecting?" Vivienne prods further with a tearful scoff, "That you'll ask for forgiveness and like the past three times, I'll forgive you and let you in again only for you to hurt me again."

"I promise I won't hurt you again-"

"How long will you keep lying?" Vivienne says defeatedly, "How long will you keep making false promises of not hurting me when we both know that the moment she comes back into your life, you'll leave me."

It was clear to both of them who the she in question was. Magui Corceiro.

All the retorts and comebacks die on his tongue for he also knows that it's the truth.

Once again, silence settles between the two of them but this time the silence is full of grief, regret and resentment. And it's this silence which is more heartbreaking than anything else.

Something uncertain looms in the air.

Something that screams that this is it.

This is the end between them.

"Let's end this here." Vivienne declares when the silence prolongs for a little too long. "You and I, we have nothing in between us."

With that, Vivienne Leclerc turns around and walks away from the Portuguese man without waiting for his answer to go look for the one she wants and loves.

happy new year lovies! i hope 2025 is both your and my year <3 i'm so sorry for not updating this story, i was spending time with my family + i had to finish the jjk manga because i'd been putting it off because i wasn't ready to part with it just yet (yes i have attachment issues with 2d characters) 😭 but i finally finished it after the epilogue got published just recently so now we're back to the previous schedule of updates every 2 days.

also this is NOT proof-read or beta read (we die like half the jjk cast ✊) so i apologise for any mistakes or errors.
