I'm currently in the kitchen making Maxine's favorite cake for the baby shower.

Red velvet with strawberries.

She loved it ever since she was a child, and she requested it for the special day.

Maxine and Kyle have been married for 4 years now, and they started dating after Richy, Amelia, Romeo, and I took Ronny to Oklahoma.

After we took him there, we still took care of him because of Romeo's well being, and we couldn't just let him die like that. But I honestly believe he would've wanted us to.

Everything he did back then, started to slowly get to him, and he began to grow mentally unstable. We couldn't keep tabs on him all the time but Romeo's cousins told us he began talking to himself and do other bizarre things.

We took him into a rehabilitation center, but sadly it was already too late. We had mentally lost him and it wasn't soon after when he jumped off of a building screaming to the sky he was sorry.

But the part that got me was Ronny had left us all of his money in Romeo's account then left a letter saying he was sorry for being an awful father and person.

It took a huge toll on Romeo because he did everything to make sure Ronny stayed on the right path and gained control back, but after he committed suicide we knew there was nothing we could do.

But it wasn't just Romeo who had had parental issues. Sadly I got a call from my parents assistants informing me that they had passed away in a plane crash.

I was devasted because I didn't really see them in my youth, but I healed with my family by my family.

But even though all of this happened once we thought everything was back to normal, Romeo and I have been trying to be the best parents for our little girl Alyssa.

But her 18th birthday was the other day, and when I tell you we went all out.

I mean it.

But that day, we were able to see the old crew consisting of Amelia, Richy, Ace, and Maya.

Maya and Ace travelled around the world with their children, Ace Jr. and Bayleigh, and are happily married.

And Amelia and Richy are the same. They're happily married with their son Tony.

"Lyssa wake your dad up, we have to be at Maxine's baby shower in 30 minutes!" I yelled to my daughter who was no doubt perfecting her makeup

If it's one person she never played about, it was her father, and it made me melt inside.

As a child, we quickly found out who Alyssa got her distinctive features from, and I'm proud to say that she got most of her looks from me.

Her eyes are light blue with a hint of green, and her hair is an autumn red came from me, and so does her personality. She can be so nasty at times and sassy, yet nice, sweet, and kind at the same time.

If it were up to me, I'd call it a triple threat.

She has incredibly light freckles and I had no idea where they came from. Well, that was until I took a close look at Romeo and saw there were small and very unnoticeable freckles on his face which made my heart swoon.

I teased him about it for a week, and he informed me that he didn't even know.

She has olive skin that she picked up from my side of the family, and a cute button nose that's honestly a mixture of mines and Romeo's. Now her cheek bones and face structure.

That's all Romeo.

The older she got, the more beautiful she got, and she has really grown into a beautiful young woman.

"On it mom!" She yells and seconds after I heard footsteps

She's wearing a snug royal blue dress with gold pumps. The dress looked perfect on her and made her look sophisticated and professional, and her hair is curled making it pass her shoulders.

I notice that her makeup is done perfectly, no surprise there, then call her over.

She instantly follows suit and hugs and kiss my cheek lightly causing a small smile to creep across my face and lean into her embrace.

"Go wake up your father honey, you know he's been asleep for some hours now." I say breaking the silence

She nods, then leaves to go wake him up.

He's been in there all day investigating.

He's finally able to pursuit one of his dreams, and I'm more than happy for him because he's giving back to the city.

At first, I wasn't the happiest when he told me his career choice, but once I wrapped my head around it, I made sure to be supportive.

He chose to be a cop.

But recently I've been on edge, because his boss sent him a case of two Mafia leaders who have been on the low for a couple of months now.

I heard Romeo discussing with Ethan, his partner, that these guys have been in the Mafia ever since they were 16, and --

Ding!

I blink rapidly coming out of my thoughs, and grab my phone. I then read the notification and notice it's from Maxine. All she wanted to tell me was that she wanted the cake as soon as possible.

I roll my eyes at her greediness, and reply with a simple 'wait'.

And just like that, my mind switch back to my family and I think about how my life has made an unexpected turn.

As I finish dealing with the cake, I tell Romeo and Alyssa to grab their jackets and meet me at the door.

The wind is rather sharp today, even though it's the middle of Summer, and I don't know whether that's a good thing or a bad thing.

We walk out of the house and get in the car, and drive to Maxine's house which is about 20 minutes away.

I call her as we pull up and tell her to unlock the door.

We walk towards the front and open it to see a frantic looking Kyle and a swollen Maxine waddling around.

"Oh God, Kaylee please help me to the couch. I'm 6 months pregnant, and he's acting like he's having the baby!" Maxine asks throwing death glares Kyle

Alyssa and Romeo couldn't help but laugh a little as Kyle scratched the back of his neck nervously.

I quickly turned my gaze to them, and drew my lips together, and they stopped laughing making me to smile softly.

Then I turn my attention back to Maxine and help her to the couch.

The celebration's going to be held in her backyard in about 10 minutes, so we began to catch up and talk about how excited she is to be a mother.

Before I can even process it, ten minutes go by quickly, and as soon as the last few people walk in, we all go to the backyard and have an amazing time until the clock strikes 8:45.

I make my way towards Maxine then tap her and tell her to check the time, and when she does, she decides it's time to shut everything down.

Everyone still has work and school in the morning and everyone agrees to leave sleepily.

Yet I can't shake the feeling that this is the beginning of something.

Something that isn't going to settle right with me.

And I guess what people say are right.
