Chapter 41

Jacob and Brook spent the rest of the school day driving around town. They stopped at several stores at the outdoor mall, and bought gifts for their families. Apparently Brook wanted to get her Christmas shopping done early. Jacob thought it wasn't a bad idea, so he bought a few things for his siblings. He couldn't help but buy Lucy a little knitted stuffed animal horse that had buttons for eyes. It was a dark purple and the eyes were pink. T was adorable, so he bought it. Brook had a little cash left over after she was finished and she bought candy at the candy store to give to Jaocbs siblings, even after he refused to let her pay. It almost felt like a date, which was nice, but he was still excited for the one he would take her on that night.

After shopping for two hours, Jacob and Brook headed home. Jacob textured James telling him he had gotten a ride home with Brook since school had just ended, and Brook dropped him off at his house before reminding him about their date at seven. He didn't need to be reminded, but he was glad to know she was excited.

"What time are you picking her up?" Mil asked as she watched Jacob dig through his drawers to find a clean shirt.

"Seven." Silence fell between them and all that could be heard was the light tapping of James constantly texting Lily.

"Would you put down the phone for one minute?" Mil asked, clearly annoyed. James glared at her and continued to text his girlfriend.

"It is getting a little annoying, Jay." Jacob mumbled. James rolled his eyes.

"Soon you'll be married and run off into the sunset, and have little Harry Potters!" Mil said holding her chest in an exaggerated mock. James rose an eyebrow.

"Little Harry Potters? Who's Harry Potter?" He asked confused. Jacob grinned.

"Oh let me, Mil. I know the answer to this question!" He said excited he knew something his brother didn't. He cleared his throat before beginning. "Harry Potter was a boy who was a wizard and defeated the dark Lord to restore the wizarding world to it's former peace." Proud of himself, Jacob took a bow and smiled.

"But why would Lily and I have baby Harry Potters?"

"Harry's parents are named Lily and James." Mil explained. Suddenly something dawned on Jacob.

"But isn't Harry an orphan?" James went pale and glared at his sister before running out of the room, screaming something about not wanting to die. Jacob chuckled to himself and quickly picked out a shirt. He took a quick shower and dried himself before pulling on his clothes. After brushing his hair and teeth, he headed out of the bathroom and grabbed his coat. He ran down to the kitchen and kissed his mother and Lucy on the cheeks and telling them goodbye before heading out the door. He slid into the driver seat of the SUV since James refused to let him use the truck. He had to use that for feeding the cows later that night.

The drive to Brooks house was short, and he arrived in a matter of seven minutes. As he pulled up, Brook opened the door and yelled into the house, probably saying goodbye to her parents, and then she ran to the car. She shut the door and smiled at him as she buckled her seat belt.

"Hi." She said simply. He started the car back up and smiled.

"Hi." He leaned over the centre console and kissed her on her cheek before backing out of her driveway and heading down the road. "You look beautiful." He said. She had changed out of her usual ripped blue jeans and plaid button down, and into a white and black striped long sleeved shirt, and some new jeans. She wore a warm yellow scarf loosely around her neck and had a flower clip in her hair the same colour, holding her hair in a bun. She wore a cream woolly jacket around her shoulders and She even wore a little makeup, in natural colours and some clear lip gloss.

"Thank you. I raided Summer's closest since she's gone." She said. Summer had to leave a lot of her possessions behind due to the more across seas. Since she and Brook were the same size, Brook took it to her advantage.

The drive was long, almost an hour to their destination, so to pass the time, they played the alphabet game, the license plate game, and I spy. It was a little difficult on Jacobs part since he was trying to keep his eyes on the road, so he didn't kill the two of them.

"Are we going to see Tony and Charlie?" Brook asked as she recognized the familiar drive to the hospital where Jacob's niece and nephew currently lived at.

"No." He said simply, allowing it so she was still confused. They passed by the hospital and pass the sign that said "Reno, the biggest little city in the world." Brook rose an eyebrow at Jacob.

"Tell me where we're going!" She begged. He smirked and shook his head.

"Be patient, Miss Scott." She glared at him and stared out the window.

Pulling into a parking spot, Jacob got out and ran around the car, opening the door before Brook could and took her hand as she stepped out of the car, laughing at his attempt to be a gentleman. The two of them linked arms and he led her down the street to their destination. The ice rink. Since it had freezed so early in the year, they opened the ice rink up earlier then usual. Many people could be seen going around the edge of the wall, laughing and talking. Brooks eyes widened and she smiled up at Jacob.

"I've always wanted to go ice skating for a date!" She said grinning happily.

"Mil and Lily said you did. They looked up something on the internet that had boards on it, and like the symbol of a thumbtack." He said scratching the back of his neck. She printouts small laugh.

"It's called Pinterest, and it is every girls best friend." She took his hand and pulled him towards the rink. Jacob paid for their skates and they got on the ice. Jacob had never been ice skating, so Brook held his hand the whole time to make sure he didn't fall. Not that it did much good. He fell anyway, and she laughed. They skated for almost three hours until th rink closed and the returned the skates. As they crossed the street, snow began to fall lightly, dusting her hair with little flakes. When they reached the car, the snow became heavier and heavier, making it so it was hard to see.

"I think you'd better let me drive, Jake. These are white out conditions, and imho haven't exactly driven in snow before." She said. He had to agree, so he tossed her the keys and climbed into the passenger seat. Brook started up the car, but before she pulled out, she turned on the radio.

"We're experiencing extreme white out conditions here in Reno and advise everyone to stay off the roads. The freeway has been closed due to sheet ice and pyramid highway has been closed due to black ice..." the news anchors voice was cut off as Brook turned it off.

"We have to use the freeway and pyramid highway to get back home." She said.

"What are we going to do?" He asked. She shrugged.

"Last time we had conditions like these, we stayed with Summer's friend over my UNR. But she got married last year and moved to Vermont." She said.

"I can always try Ginny. Their house is just around the corner." Jacob suggested pulling out his phone. He dialled his sister's number and waited for her to pick up. She answered on the fourth ring.

"Hey Gin, Brook and I are stuck in town, do you mind if we crash at your place tonight?" He asked.

"Yeah, no problem. I'm just now leaving so I'll most likely get there around the same time." She said. He quickly thanked his sister and ended the call.

"I guess we're staying at Ginny's tonight." He said settings phone on his leg. She nodded and pulled out, heading towards Ginny and Shawns's neighbourhood.

I finally have some somewhat good ideas. I hope you like the faster updates. I'm trying to finish this book, because I think it might be dragging on a bit. Maybe three or four more chapters. Please comment and vote! Love you all!
