Chapter 40
So just a heads up, as I'm editing this book, I'm making a few slight changes. One of them is that Jacob and James don't play football. I realized that was a mistake putting that in since I have no idea what even happens in football. So I'm changing it to soccer, since it's a sport I love, play, and know. So please don't get confused when I say their soccer game rather then football.

The snow day had to come to an end, and school seemed to pass by slower then normal. Jacob did learn that Nevada was one of the only states that got Halloween off since it was also Nevada day. Thanksgiving was only a week away, and Jacob and James had their first match of the season the Friday before thanksgiving break. The twins would have matches with each other and their siblings to help them for their up coming game. Soccer wasn't as big of a deal at the high school, but they didn't care since it was still fun.
Jacob had just finished bathing Chevy when a truck pulled up into the driveway and Brook got out of the drivers seat, slamming the door shut. Jacob put Chevy into her paddock, took a towel to dry off, since Chevy had gotten him wet as he bathed her. David said to them all that it'd be the lasts baths of the summer since it was too cold to bathe them anymore. Jacob headed over to see what the fuss was about with Brook. Brook leaned up against the hood of her truck and stared at the ground as he approached her. Jacob kissed her on her cheek before rising an eyebrow in questioning to her silence treatment.
"Did I do something wrong?" He asked carefully.
"No." She said finally, letting out a deep sigh. Jacob sat down on the hood of her truck and she stood in front of him, taking his hands in her own. "Summer is moving to Australia." The words were not exactly what Jacob had expected.
"What?" The news startled him. "I thought Summer loved it here?"
"That's what I thought to." She mumbled with a depressing sigh. Jacob took her by her shoulders and pulled her too his chest in a tight embrace. By the small shaking of her shoulder and the sharp intakes of breath, he could tell she was crying.
"Everything will be alright, Brook." He whispered into her hair.
"Apparently, she's been offered a job at the marine biologist program down south. Says she can't miss an opportunity like this." Brook said.
"Well, it is an amazing opportunity." He said shyly, not wanting to make her mad.
"I don't want to be an only child." She said crying. His grip tightened on her.
"I was an only child, and look how I turned out!" He said grinning. Brook gave him a knowing look and rolled her eyes.
"Yeah, you smoked and got yourself shipped away." She muttered. He glared at her.
"Can we please not bring that up?" He asked hotly. She nodded.
"Sorry, I'm just mad at Summer."
"When does she leave?" He asked.
"Day after tomorrow. We're having a going away party tomorrow."She answered.
"Alright, well then on Thursday, which is day after tomorrow, I am going to take you out. Just to keep your mind off of things." He said. She gave him a suspicious look.
"I'm not going anywhere with you if you're gonna try something on me, Jacob Gareth." She warned. He rolled his eyes and kissed her cheek.
"I would never try anything on you. And I'm pretty sure I can be classified as a Maxwell now."

Cars were lined all the way down the road as the Maxwell's drove to Brooks house for the celebration of Summer's new job. They met up with Ginny there, who had been discharged from the hospital two days prior. Shawn didn't come since he wanted to stay with Little Tony and Charlie, and he wanted to make sure Ginny got to say farewell to her childhood best friend. After congratulating Summer, and saying hello to his sister, Jacob took Lucy over to where Brook was seated in the corner, ignoring everyone who passed by. He sat down next to her and passed Lucy off to his girlfriend, who gave them both a sad smile.
"How are you?" Jacob asked, taking Lucy back into his arms and bouncing her on his knee as she prattled about.
"I thought I could handle it better, but it's so hard." She whispered, a tear falling onto her cheek. "I'd understand if it was another state, or even another Country in North America, but a whole other continent? Now I can't simply drive to go see her, I have to earn money for a flight." Jacob sat silently and listened as she cried. He hated to see her in pain, but there was nothing he could really do about it. He just hoped his plan of taking her on a date to distract her would work. He already had the whole thing planned out with the help of Lily, James, and Mil. The three of them had known Brook longer, so they gave helpful suggestions to what the date should be like. Mil even took the liberty of going through Brooks Pinterest boards in search of date ideas. Luckily for them, she had a whole board dedicated to what she wanted on a date. Hopefully it would take the sting off of her sister leaving.
The party slowly calmed down and the number of guests dwindled as people gave Summer a final farewell and left. Soon it was only the Johnson's and the Maxwell's left, who happened to be her closest friends. Summer and Ginny hugged for who knows how long. Jacob felt awkward just watching his sister wish Summer good luck, as if he was intruding on some secret best friend ritual of farewells. They soon got into the cars and drove away.

Summer left early the next morning, So Brook wasn't at school since she was with her parents, dropping her off at the airport. Jacob was bored throughout all of first period because she wasn't there. Sara kept asking where she was, but he'd simply ignore her until she gave up. He met up with Brook once again at lunch, and she was ready to burst into tears as she hugged him tightly.
"She's gone. She'll be back for Christmas." She shuddered. Jacob knew she was going through a hard time. Summer had been at college before, and she actually went to the same college and Peter, up in Idaho. But college and a job were different. If Summer wanted too, she could take a week off and drive down to Nevada, but now she can't.
"Everything will be alright, Brook." He said. "Come on." He took her by the hand and led her towards the front of the school.
"Where are we going?" She asked curiously.
"Somewhere." He said simply. She glared at him.
"Jake, we're not ditching school." She said firmly, giving him no room for argument.
"Why not? If we leave now, then they'll think we're headed out for lunch." He said. She looked doubtful. "Come on. Trust me. I used to do this all the time in Florida."
"I've never ditched before, Jake." She said in a hushed tone. He grinned.
"Okay, now we have to ditch." He said. She let out a groan of frustration as he pulled her towards the exit and they left the building. They headed over to her truck, since she hadn't come to school with them that morning, she had to drive herself. Brook tossed Jacob her keys and he climbed into the drivers seat as she slid into the passenger seat beside him.
"Are you sure this is a good idea?" She asked. He smiled at her.
"Absolutely not."
