Jacob sat in class, utterly bored and still trying to figure out why he was even in Summer school. His teacher just droned on, not caring that most of her class was asleep. Sleep? That sounded good at the moment, Sleep. Jacob's eyes began to become heavier and heavier until he closed his eyes and felt himself slipping into a deep sleep. Not a minute later, the teachers ruler smacked down on his desk next to his head. He bolted up and rubbed the sleep from his eyes.

"Let me remind you Mr. Gareth, you are here because you failed my class, would you like to fail it again?" She sneered. He glared at some of the other students as they began to snicker at him.

"No." He said dully. She straightened and nodded once, returning to the lesson. It seemed like forever before the bell rang, releasing them from their Summer prison. Jacob began to walk home, noticing his two friends following him, but ignoring them. They had gotten him into more trouble than he wanted and if he had to, he would stay clear of them. He glanced back at them and noticed Sara was with them.... He couldn't help it, he had to stop. She was his girlfriend after all.

"Where have you been?!? We've been trying to text you for days!" Lewis said as they approached. Jacob nodded a bit.

"Dad took away my phone." He lied. Once they reached him, Sara kissed Jacob on the cheek and Lewis gave him one of his evil grins, passing him a paper sack. Jacob hesitantly reached into the bag and pulled out several cigarettes. He glared at the two boys who were grinning at him.

"No." He said simply, shoving the sack back into Lewis hands. They all glared at him.

"Come on Jacob, You're dad will never have to know." Sara said tugging at his arm.

"He's a police cheif, nothing gets pass him!" He said. They all glared at him.

"Come on Jacob. He won't find out, I promise."Sara said, fluttering her eyelashes. He let out a groan and the four of them slipped into the alley way next to them. Jacob had the deep feeling that he would regret this more than anything.

Jacob tried to avoid his fathers gaze as he slipped in through the door and down the hall to his bedroom. But it wasn't his dad that stopped him, it was his stepmom. Hayley was pregnant at the moment with Jacob's first sibling, He swore she had the nose of a hunting dog.

"Jacob?" she asked him to come to her. He tried to ignore her, but his father stepped in.

"Come here now Jake." he said. Jacob reluctanly turned back the way he came and slowly approached them. The second his father caught whiff of him, He knew.

"I knew there was something going on with you!" He said angrly. Jacob stared down at his feet.

"It wasn't me! Lewis, Jon and...." But his father was already shaking his head.

"Don't blame this on anybody, Jacob. You chose the smoke, even if it was to get them off your back." He growled. Jacob turned to his stepmom, Hayley, but she looked just as mad as his father. He decided it would just be easier if he accepted what ever punishment they gave him.

"So what do I have yo do? Dishes for a month? Mow the lawn?" He asked raising his eyebrows. His father said nothing for a minute. He just stared at Jacob, as if fighting the urge to slap him.

"I'm sending you to your mothers."

The day after that he was staring out the window of the airplane, watching as Miami disappeared below them. He let out a deep sigh and closed his eyes.

When he woke, they were just landing in the Reno airport. The flight attendants were ushering them off the plane. The second he stepped out of the building, He felt a rush of cold air come over him, and he was filled with dread. This is going to be a long Summer, was all he could think.

He looked around the area, trying to picture what his mother would look like. His father had never shown him any pictures of her, so he had no idea who he was looking for. He was then suddenly approached by a tan woman with glossy black hair and dark brown eyes.

"Are you Jacob?" She asked. Jacob nodded once, staring at her. "I'm Alex, your mother." She said holding out her hand. He shook it hesitantly and she took one of his bags.  "Come, the car is this way." She led him over to a dusty SUV that had obviously gone through some tough times. She put his bags in the back of the car and he climbed into the passenger seat. He looked in the back to find a carseat covered in cheerios.

Alex slid into the drivers seat and started the car.

"You have other kids?" he asked her. She stared at him for a moment.

"Your father really told you nothing?" She asked. He shook his head. All he knew was that his mom lived in the country on the outskirts of Reno Nevada. She bit her lip. "I have seven other children. Three of which are your full siblings, and one is your twin." she said. Jacob stared at her for a moment.

"My...my twin?" He asked. She smiled a bit and nodded.

"James. You two are completely identical." She said. Jacob's eyes widened and he turned his gaze to the window. He had a twin?

***

An hour later, Jacob was staring at what looked like a mirror of him in cowboy clothes. James stared at him, equally amazed. James had been warned he had a twin, but it hadn't seemed real until that moment. Alex and Jacobs other siblings had backed off to give the two of them space. A lot of surprises had come to Jacob that day. He found out he had other siblings, and a twin, and that his mother lived on a massive cattle ranch.

"This is so cool." James whispered. Even their voices were identical. They had the same slick black hair, and dark brown eyes, and even the same evil twinkle in their eyes.

"James will show you around the ranch, Jacob, and teach you how everything runs. You are to stick with one of us at all times." Alex explained. Jacob nodded. Alex than left to care for the toddlar in her arms. James bit his lip, not knowing what to show his brother first. So he introduced him to all of their other siblings. They had an older full sister named Ginny, and older full brother named Peter, Than four little half siblings, Milidred, Joseph, Jewel, and the toddlar in Alex arms was little Julian.

After Jacob had met his siblings, James then showed him around the ranch, which took a while. He learned the names of all seven horses, all the while trying to avoid their two little sisters, Milidred and Jewel. Milidred, or Mil, seemed rather quiet. She took after their mother, with tan skin and black hair and black eyes, where as Jewel looked nothing like her older sister. James explained that she looked just like her father, their step father had blond hair and green eyes with pale skin.

Jacob was able to meet his stepfather that evening at the dinner table. His name was David Maxwell. Jacob was allowed to call him David.

After a great meal of lamb chops seasoned with rosemary with a side of potatoes and lettuce, James showed him to the room he would be sharing with his twin. The large farm house would have allowed him to have his own room, but David figured it would allow the twins to bond.

Around midnight, Jacob heard James shift in his bed and turn towards Jacobs bed, that was on the opposite side of the room.

"Jacob?" He asked.

"Hmm?" He asked sleepily.

"Are we anything like you expected?" He asked. Jacob said nothing for a moment.

"I don't understand why my dad thinks sending me here was a punishment." He said. He could sense James smiling in the dark.

"Careful what you say, Jake. Mom will make you regret those words."
