Chapter two: Step-dad?
(Y/N)'s P.O.V
My alarm starts going off, which gets me annoyed and I turn around coving my ears with the pillow. My alarm still hasn't gone off, so I turn around and smack the turn off button on my phone screen.
I sigh peacefully, and shut my eyes again to get some beauty sleep. After a few minutes, I give up on sleeping and kick my blanket off me. I stand up from my bed and stretch hearing all my muscles stretch and bones crack.
I open my door, to the smell of some omelets being cooked. My stomach rumbled telling me to move my lazy ass towards the food, I walked down the stairs still sleepy, thank god I decided to skip classes.
Once I hit the last step, I saw Artoria in the kitchen humming a song tucked in my old blue hoodie that doesn't fit me anymore. I walked further into the kitchen to see Mordred playing with one of her lion plushies, "Morning..." I yawn out making Artoria jump a little bit.
Artoria looks behind her shoulder, a smile placed upon her face. "Good morning (Y/N), how'd you sleep?" I shrug for my answer, not sure how good I slept, all I know is that I like sleeping.
"Mama, who that?" I looked down to see the toddler, staring up at me pointing a finger. Artoria looks at Mordred and smilies, "This is a friend of mama, who will be taking care of us." Answering her daughter's question before turning back to the food.
Mordred's big green eyes stare up and me before she suddenly grins. "Hi! What's your name?" Mordred jumps off her stool and walks up to me, holding a hand out for me to shake.
"Mordred-" "It's alright, Artoria." I smile looking back down at the kid. I crouched down to Mordred's height and shake hands with the toddler, "The name is (Y/N), and yours?" I ask raising a brow.
The small youth's smile widens, "I'm Mordred!" I nod, still having a smile on my face. I stand up from the floor giving Mordred one of her toys, asking Artoria if she needed any help.
Cause from what I remembered, the last time I let her cook. She almost burned down my apartment, and from that day on, Artoria was never around a stove without parent permission which was me.
Breakfast was calming for once, I got to talk to Mordred and get to know about what she likes and doesn't like. The past two weeks, breakfast was usually me eating toast and running to Starbucks for a cup of coffee.
It was nice to sit down and talk to the other person on the other chair, instead of staring at a empty chair across the table while having homework on the table and a cup of noodles.
Once we finished breakfast, which was really fulling. I took all the dishes and washed them, while the lion king played on my tv in the living room.
Hearing Mordred sing along the characters on the tv, made me smile without me even knowing. Guess when mom did it a lot when I was younger, it become a habit that when someone sings to the lion king songs.
I always get a flashback of her face, grinning down at me while rubbing my hair, that always made me fall asleep a lot faster. She would hum songs from different Disney movies, that I would smile to before letting the darkness take me over.
I was snapped out of my own thoughts, when I felt something tugging on my sweats. Mordred's green eyes looked up at me, like she wanted my attention for something.
I dried my hands and turned my full attention to the small blonde toddler. "What's up kiddo?" I asked slightly confused, Mordred's small fingers grasped my own hand and she dragged my towards the living room.
There, Artoria fell asleep on the couch. All cuddled up against the arm rest, with a blanket wrapped over her shoulders. I look down at the kid, confused even more. "Mama fell asleep, she needs it. She's always helping me but not herself..." Mordred sad tone engulfed my eardrums.
I crouched down to the kid's height, patting her head. "Then, we shall leave her to rest. You're mom needs it a lot," I grin at the kid in front of me, getting a grin back as my response.
"Y-You know..." I stopped grinning and looked at Mordred. She was stuttering and looked sad again, "You act like papa but a lot nicer." I raise a brow at the toddler's words, confused and concerned.
"What was your dad like?" I ask, hopping I'm not asking a personal question. Mordred gulped, tightening her hold on her lion plushie. "Papa wasn't very nice, she would always yell at mama and hit her. Then would be angry at me, but mama was always there to protect me." My blood boiled just at what Mordred said.
I was never a big fan of Morgan, before Artoria cheated on me. Morgan was a suck up bitch, stubborn, and made the dumbest excuses to why she was ten minutes late to class.
Morgan was always a arrogant bastard, thinking she was always on top of the world. I was convinced her and Gilgamesh were siblings, Morgan always was jealous I had Artoria in my grasp.
But once she got Artoria, she would smirk and purposely make out with her in front me on purpose. It would always get me and her into a fight in the middle of the hallways, and I would be kicked out for the day or two.
Now hearing this from Mordred, just made me hate the jealous bitch even more. Artoria was in an abusive relationship and she didn't tell anyone, so she ran away coming to me first. Because if she told me her situation, I would understand.
Before I knew it, Mordred was crying a little probably trigging a memory that wasn't good. I gently put my hand on Mordred's back and pull her into my chest for a hug, "Sorry kid, didn't mean to trigger something that wasn't nice to remember." I apologize, drawing circles gently on her back.
Mordred stops crying and relaxed into my hold, slowly falling asleep. "(Y/N).." Mordred's voice was small and gently, I nod my head "Is something wrong?" I ask only for Mordred to shake her head.
"C-Can I call you papa?" My eyes slightly widened from her question, I open my mouth but nothing comes out. I'm just to shocked to answer, but I look down and see Mordred's vulnerable face.
I think about my answer and gulp finally figuring out my answer. "Yeah, sure. Whatever floats your boat," I answer with a soft smile, spread across my face.
Mordred returns the smile, cuddling more into my chest. Falling asleep in my arms, I stand up carefully so I don't wake her up. I gently place Mordred under Artoria's arm and wrap the blanket around the both of them more comfortably.
I smile again, before making my way up the stairs to finish some homework. Before going back to that hell scape tomorrow morning.
