Part 22
Naruto trained with Sasuke, not really paying attention. Though he knew he had to get them all stronger, his worry for Hinata was winning his battle of concentration. It was instead directed to her, and though he was still beating Sasuke, he wasn't paying attention to any possible flaws the raven might have.
"Naruto!" Tenten screamed, smacking him over the head. "Hey, listen to me!" She sighed and rolled her eyes when the blond did. "I get that you're worried about your girl, but you gotta pay attention. Now, as I was asking before, should we use special attacks or not?"
"Oh." Naruto's eyebrows rose and he looked over at Sasuke, who was breathing hard. "Maybe not yet. Let's start with what we've been doing, then go on to without weapons, and after that, we'll use special attacks."
"Fine," Tenten said with a dejected sigh. "I was hoping we'd use special attacks today. My opponent is really getting on my nerves."
"Mine too!" Kiba pitched in, and both turned to see him fighting a girl who was hurling insults at him.
"You trying to beat her?" Naruto asked loudly. Tenten laughed, watching as the girl threw kunai after kunai at Kiba, who dodged every one.
"Not really! She's a girl," Kiba growled.
"Since when were you so chivalrous? You'll never switch your partner if you don't beat her!" Naruto yelled back with a smirk. He chuckled and shook his head as Kiba growled again, and beat her easily. The blond turned his head to Shikamaru and found him sitting on the ground, his opponent laying nearby, exhausted.
"Oh? You're actually trying?" Naruto asked, the surprise evident in his voice. Shikamaru rolled his eyes and nodded.
"If you'd been paying attention at all, you would have seen that. I figured I might as well, since you seemed so worried about us." Shikamaru shrugged and closed his eyes.
"You good, Sasuke?" Naruto asked next.
"I'm ready if you pay attention this time. Show me what you can do," Sasuke replied with a smirk.
"You'd be in trouble if I did," Naruto said, returning the smirk. Both got into fighting stances and went at it for the next hour. They stopped when Ino came running over.
"I came to tell everyone that Hinata's okay now," she said, breathing hard. "Shizune told me to tell Naruto he could visit her."
"What? I can?" Naruto asked excitedly. He looked over to Neji. "You're coming with me, though." The darker haired man smiled gratefully and joined him in his run back to Tsunade's office. In the hall were two sleeping forms, one being Sakura, and the other Tsunade. Shizune opened the door for them and smiled.
"She'll be in bed for a while. She lost a lot of blood, but she'll be fine. She's been asking for the two of you. Hinata was desperate to know that you weren't beating yourselves up for not watching her. She's awake, so you can go talk to her."
"Thank you," Naruto muttered, and entered the room. He stared in horror at the blood on the floor, which had spread even more since Naruto had been in there. His eyes turned to Hinata, who was on a bed that had been brought in at some point, and smiled when he saw her eyes on him.
"Hey," she said softly. She lifted a hand and grasped Naruto's when he was near enough. Naruto ran a hand through her hair.
"Hey," he whispered. Neji came over and grabbed her other hand, smiling at her encouragingly. He then turned to Naruto, looking from the blond and Hinata as he talked.
"I'll let you two talk. It'll be more exhausting talking to two, rather than one." He left, shutting the door behind him. Naruto stared at it a bit longer before dropping to his knees.
"Naruto?" Hinata asked, trying to sit up. Naruto's hand shot up and pushed against her shoulders.
"Sorry, it's nothing much. I've just been so worried, and was relieved to see you looking all right." Naruto brushed his fingers through her hair again. Warm tears made their way down his face, and he paused his action to brush them away. When his tears continued to fall freely, he gave up trying to stop them and rested his forehead against hers.
"I was so scared, Hinata. I thought I'd lost you," Naruto whispered. He pulled back and found Hinata crying too, though she smiled.
"I'm sorry, Naruto. I didn't mean to." She reached a hand up to his cheek and smiled for him, bigger than she had previously. "But I'm fine, see?" Naruto nodded and then took her hand and kissed it.
"They say you never realize what you have till it's gone," Naruto muttered. "I thought I knew, but when I heard what happened, I realized it was more."
Hinata's eyes widened. "Naruto?"
He smiled and leaned over and kissed her forehead. "Get some sleep. I'll be here when you wake up." He closed her eyes with his fingers, and a few moments later, fell asleep himself, listening to her rhythmical breathing.
How was that? Personally, I'm fond of this chapter. Just a lighter for a little. So, I gotta tell you that I don't like spiders. I never thought until recently that I was like this, but I'm the type that almost pukes upon seeing one. I love the little baby ones, (they're so cute!) but the big one's are just ewww. So, today I was looking out of a window in our house and saw a HUGE spider. I thought it was big, but then I looked at it straight on and it was even bigger. Bigger than a quarter. It had a huge abdomen, and at first, I thought it was kinda whitish, but then saw it was actually kinda orangish-light brown. (anyone know of any like those?) I was almost throwing up looking at it. Then I got curious as to what it was, since we've seen others like it IN my house, and ugh, I can't look at spider pics. (Now I got this irrational fear that I'll wake up to one crawling on me, or see it in my bed.) So, I couldn't look long. Anyone know of what it could be?
